I retired in 2020. I went into the office, dumped all my stuff on my desk and shouted upstairs to the HR lady that I was gone. I'd worked there for nearly 15 years. No wine, no expensive takeaway salads, no coffee, no gifts.

We're having a work get together later in the summer, for all of us who lost their jobs during the pandemic.

Don't sit there and tell me everyone was at it. It's insulting.

These people worked together. It was an end of day work event.
I bet offices up & down the country had similar ‘all the best’ groupings to say goodbye to work colleagues.

As far as I understand the rules, saying a formal goodbye to a colleague in an office with the people who normally work with you there was never illegal, and nor was wishing them well with a glass of wine, tea, coffee or coca cola for that matter.

Its got nothing to do with whether it was a party, a get-together or even a wake. People weren't allowed to gather. There is a takeaway on the desk along with party food. It was pre-planned at a time when that is not allowed.

Why are people so keen to defend him? I really don't know why? I would really never have thought that the Police were corrupt but I'm more and more convinced of it every day.

No, I believe it is Lee Cain's leaving do on November 13th. I am not even sure if it was investigated. Plenty of booze though.

I just hope the lady does not let anyone put her reputation on the line just to save their own. Some people are not too particular about whose career or reputation they destroy to save their own.
I gather Dominic Cummings has pontificated that disgruntled staff who did get fines while others escaped will release their own photos.
I think BJ will come to realise it would have been better, in the eyes of the public, to get a dozen fines and take the punishment rather than just the one. I think it will be the 'money' disparity that will rile people up, especially as some young people got massive fines and lost their place at University. This has not gone away. My sister reminded me of the saying in the C of E - 'the minister can commit adultery as often as he likes, but make off with the proceeds of the collection plate is a different matter altogether'. It will be the difference in the amount of the fines that will stick in the public craw.
