Sue Gray will give Johnson the report today, for publication. Photos will also be published.

According to Downing Street, Johnson will make a statement, to the House after PMQ, then meet with the 1922 committee later, and then, finally, a press conference.

"Boris Johnson is bracing for the release of yet more Partygate pictures, this time from Downing Street's official photographers, as Sue Gray prepares to make the findings of her long-awaited report public today.

Mr Johnson is expected to apologise to Parliament, the public and his own MPs over Partygate in a bid to soak up criticism from the official report into the row later today, even with more snaps from No. 10's vanity photographers poised to hit the press.

Deploying a 'masochism strategy', the Prime Minister will 'take responsibility' for lockdown rule-breaking in Downing Street, which is set to be savaged in the much-anticipated report.

In a display of contrition, the PM will then make a statement to Parliament before holding a press conference and then addressing Tory MPs at a meeting of the backbench 1922 Committee."

Johnson has been given the report, and it should be published to the MPs shortly.

PMQ’s could be interesting. That said I’ll be in the Trafford Centre. Needs must.

There should be one more big party - Leaving do for Boris.

I fear he will survive this; his stance on Ukraine is his "Churchill moment" and a dead cat ploy to deflect criticism of him personally. I agree with our aid to Ukraine totally but it is tainted by the knowledge that he will do anything to stay in No.10. He needs to go immediately and take Shapps, Dorries, Raab and the rest of his toadies with him. I don't think I have ever seen such a talentless gutless crew in the Cabinet in my life. Yes, there are some good people on the backbenches, the ex-military ones in particular but the rest of them are clinging on to their jobs for dear life. I shall have to steel myself to watch his grovelling and insincere apologies; heads will roll but they won't be his!!

I just wish the queen would exercise her power and sack him. Apparently she's the only one with that actual power.

DiamondLily Wed 25-May-22 10:19:50

Getting rid of him is like death by a thousand cuts, in that it's obvious the end is coming, it's just taking a very long time..?

grumppa Wed 25-May-22 10:36:58

I rather think the Queen can only sack him if it is the will of Parliament that he be sacked. Pity, really.

I desperately hope that the next government can begin to undo all the harm that has been done to our democratic institutions.

I watched Panorama. It didn't tell us anything we didn't already know or hadn't seen in preview clips but a timeline reminder of events. The extent of the drinking culture within Downing Street is shocking. I doubt it happened on May’s watch or any or her predecessors.

The only people speaking in Johnson's favour were expenses fiddler and benefits cutter Ian Duncan Smith using the Ukranian people as a human shield excuse we have come to loathe and, of course, nitwit Nadine Dorries.

It was former Director of Comms William Walden (who managed Johnson's 2019 leadership campaign) who said Johnson would have to be dragged kicking and screaming from number 10 and I think he could be right.

That said, interesting that Johnson is meeting with the 1922 committee. Yesterday, on Times Radio, Tom Tugendhat said he was about to meet with backbench colleagues so maybe there are 54+ letters stting in Brady’s intray. I sincerely hope so although it doesn’t mean Johnson would lose a vote. As one staffer said, He knows where the bodies are. Reflecting on that. Yes, buried in cemeteries up and own the country, ashes scattered in gardens of remembrance. People who died alone while Downing Street staff partied on a regular basis with Johnon’s blessing and participation.

Historical note: Last leader to lose a vote of no confidence was … IDS.

I am tired of seeing and hearing the meaningless head hung apology. It is hollow and shrill. Just go.

Now that would be worth breaking the rules for! grin

Those continuing to lie for Johnson should be found guilty of perjury.

Bum, I’m out meeting a friend for lunch. Will catch up later. DH will record stuff hopefully!

So Sue Gray didn’t bother to investigate the ABBA party because the police didn’t.

jaylucy Wed 25-May-22 12:35:17

Having listened to an interview of someone that was present at several of the parties that apparently happened on a regular basis, I doubt very much if anything further will be done.
For someone (BJ) that was in ICU himself while suffering from Covid, you would have thought that he would have been strict about the rules being adhered to amongst his own staff !

Rameses Wed 25-May-22 12:43:51

PMQ's is more ridiculous than ever today. Starmer totally ignored Sue Gray's report until after Johnson gives his 'statement' (excuses). In my opinion he should have struck an early blow (if he could actually find the energy and not sound like Johnson's defence lawyer)
Every time Johnson opened his mouth and started his usually wild man act it just made this once great country look more sad and more on a serious downhill trajectory.

Philippa111 Wed 25-May-22 12:52:17

All narcissists apologise profusely, paying lip service, and then carry on with their dishonest and abusive behaviours... there is no real sense of 'sorry 'as they don't have that feeling. They don't relate to life in normal healthy ways. They will do anything to maintain their sense of power, as to feel they have made mistakes or got things wrong is just too overwhelming for them. These are dangerous people who push through life oblivious to the needs or feeling of others. They can be very charming and even charismatic and therein lies the danger. He'll get away with this as he has everything else

Oldnproud Wed 25-May-22 13:16:53

Did I just hear Boris say something along the lines that that it can be difficult to distinguish between working and socialising?
I can see how that might hold true in some jobs, but that of PM? Really?
His judgement really must be very poor. Thank goodness he doesnt have an important job. Oh, hang on a minute ...!

At the very least, I think that the amount of alcohol being consumed, and the general behaviour of those present should be a huge clue.

Iam64 Wed 25-May-22 13:20:56

Starmer had important current issues to raise at PMQs. He was right to wait till the sue gray report statement was made before raising that
Johnson lies so glibly, he’s a good debater providing you don’t expect what he says to bare any relationship to the truth

Daisymae Wed 25-May-22 13:26:11

It's obvious that there should be disciplinary action. The whole thing is just a farce. A waste of public time and money. Still it did the job by delaying any real address of the issues that are impairing the functionality of the government. The whole thing is just a shambles and a disgrace.

DaisyAnne Wed 25-May-22 13:36:29

Sometimes, when I read posts on threads like this, I wonder if we should ever have televised Parliament.

It is not entertainment for those who want to see one person strike "an early blow". It is a meeting we are allowed to view, a meeting that follows a set Agenda. This Agenda had the "Statement" following "PMQs". One was not part of the other.

I look forward to the findings of the MPs on the Privileges Committee when they investigate whether Mr Johnson is in contempt of Parliament for misleading the Commons.

J52 Wed 25-May-22 13:37:09

Words almost fail me!
‘Lessons learnt’ !!!!
If your running the country there shouldn’t be any lessons to learn, you’re the teacher and leader. Supposedly.
As for Sunak , he’s been in the know all along and was too Lilley Livered to come clean. Everyone involved should go.

DiamondLily Wed 25-May-22 13:48:37

Starmer won PMQ, hands down. Johnson ended up sounding like a lunatic, shouting and waving his arms around, talking about things that weren't relevant lol ?

TopsyIrene06 Wed 25-May-22 13:49:27

PMQs is just another thing that the PM has messed up.

He gets a question then evades or lies.
No opportunity to follow up or scrutinise.
Next question.
Repeat.

What is the point of it all.

He will not be beaten will he? I really thought he was in trouble this time.

DiamondLily Wed 25-May-22 13:57:38

A Tory MP asked him to confirm or deny that he "suggested" to Sue Gray that she drop the report and enquiry:

"Conservative Aaron Bell questions if there is any truth in The Times' claim that the PM asked Sue Gray whether she needed to publish her report following the conclusion of the Met Police's investigation.
The PM does not deny the claim explicitly, simply saying it is "a wholly independent report".
