The first transgender Barbie doll has been launched to highlight the importance of "acceptance at every age".

What, if any, are your thoughts?

I hear a new version of Operation will be out at Christmas...

That’s a good one Urms ????

I've just been down a Barbie rabbit hole. You can buy Barbie representations of Rosa Parks, Florence Nightingale, Katherine Johnson and Eleanor Roosevelt, among others. And Samantha Cristoforetti, who is an astronaut

Its changed since I was a girl. smile

Well I remember when my wee friend who was of mixed heritage couldn't get a Black doll ..times move on and should to be inclusive of all people

Maudi

Perhaps an overweight Barbie with a few tattoos would be more apt.

????

Not flipping folks xxxxx dolls!!!!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-May-22 13:36:38

Grammaretto

Or an elderly Barbie with disabilities?shock

There is a brand of folks who have disabilities, some have wheelchairs, some come with permanently closed along with a guide dog and white cane, cannot recall the others.

Will try and look when I get home (scrolling whilst DH is driving)

Yes a bit like when my son had an obsession with Thomas and had to buy every engine. They made one for every character and then thought bugger we cant sell anything else, I know we will do 'winter Thomas ' (exact same engine with some snow on it) or Royal Henry (exact same engine with a crown on it) - still irritated 20 years latergrin

Oh Maudi yesgrin

Grammaretto Thu 26-May-22 13:31:28

It was the highheeled shaped feet that "got" me. Why?
At least action man had proper feet.
Is there an action girl/LGBT?

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 26-May-22 13:28:31

??? Maudi.

Smileless2012 Thu 26-May-22 13:26:45

I suspect the market will be for a new Barbie and this being transgender will be irrelevant to the majority of adults who buy it and children who play with it.

Maudi Thu 26-May-22 13:25:15

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-May-22 13:23:50

Exactly DillytheGardener it’s a marketing ploy nothing more, nothing less.

We are all being encouraging to buy less, particularly Chinese plastic tat so hey ho let’s jump on the transgender bandwagon…

DillytheGardener Thu 26-May-22 13:18:32

None of them have any ‘bits’ so they are all fairly transgender in my eyes anyway ?
Honestly don’t care either way. There will be a market for them, hence their being made. Capitalism at work.
Bratz dolls are the ones I don’t care for. They look like hookers.

Smileless2012 Thu 26-May-22 13:17:35

Laverne Cox is amazing.

volver Thu 26-May-22 13:15:14

Exactly. Isn't that amazing....hmm

Smileless2012 Thu 26-May-22 13:13:38

Well IMO unless you know who Laverne Cox is this is simply another Barbie.

volver Thu 26-May-22 13:10:51

Here she is. Its clearly the end of civilisation as we know it.

But then I've always thought that about Barbies.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-May-22 13:09:11

Personally I think it is an item of plastic that is not needed.

Smileless2012 Thu 26-May-22 13:08:48

Hadn't thought of that so I wonder what defines transgender Barbie from cis Barbie hmm.

What a load of rubbish! The world has gone mad.

????????????

Redhead56 Thu 26-May-22 13:07:52

I don’t think it’s the world gone mad but the human race. I will duck for cover now for daring to be critical.

Aveline Thu 26-May-22 13:06:50

Same as 'Action Man'
