It seems that the Home Secretary is willing to send people who having spent their recent lives escaping war are now to find themselves forcibly transported to a country now at war with its neighbour.

What is the matter with Patel?

The flight is off for now. The ECHR has intervened at last.

Pots and kettles ….

Yes

If we leave the ECHR then the Good Friday Agreement goes belly up...

Then it's definitely Trade War Here We Come.

(and I know who'll lose that war...)

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 21:00:42

Well, well, the court set up by Johnson’s hero - Winston Churchill - the ECHR - looks as if it is going to stop the barbaric transportation of at least one and more if they get a move on.

Next thing no doubt will be the idiot Johnson’s decision to leave the ECHR. Then none of us will have recall to a court that is totally independent.

Pritti ‘awful’ Patel is appalling. She should have been sacked a long time ago when that bullying report came out, which Johnson conveniently ignored. Does she not understand international law? Does she sleep at night?

Are you saying that the asylum seekers are legal?

You still haven’t read the 1952 Refugee Convention have you?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 19:53:05

Apparently the courts only allowed the flight to take place provided Patel agreed to bring the asylum seekers back to the U.K., should the judgement go against the government in July.

Most normal governments would wait for that judgement and not spend extravagant amounts of money.

On the contrary, dear lady, I very much have a clue.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jun-22 19:41:33

Breaking: European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg grants rule 39 request to stop the flight to Rwanda from leaving. Basis: real risk of inhuman and degrading treatment (Art. 3 ECHR). Please share - government must comply.

Don’t get this muddled with Brexit.

Growstuff "losing " all your ID at sea doesn't make their case does it. And none of you seem to mention them coming from France!

What nonsense are you spouting now? These people are not "illegal", but I doubt if you have the capacity to understand that.

Have you ever read the 1951 refugee convention? If you have you wouldn’t be posting such ignorance and lies I would hope.

HousePlantQueen because those who are coming here are illegal and it's costing a fortune to keep them here

No, they're not illegal!!!!!!!! How many times do some people need telling?

DiamondLily 256 just in one day! Where on earth are they going to go? My children can't afford to buy homes. The two bedroom house next to me is being turned into a HMO there's no room here

Russian oligarchs have left a few empty properties, so I've heard.

HousePlantQueen Tue 14-Jun-22 16:18:37

They are not illegal.
Applying for asylum is not illegal
75% of applications are granted
Applicants are costing a fortune because the process of handling their requests is painfully slow and they are not allowed to work while they wait.
Sending people to Rwanda costs more than hotels here.

But, you know all this don't you?

Biscuitmuncher Tue 14-Jun-22 16:08:14

HousePlantQueen Tue 14-Jun-22 15:29:03

Why do you conflate the difficulties that young people have with getting their first home, with the desperate people arriving on dinghies? I don't think that even our lying, desperate for distraction PM has managed to make a link there, but give him time I suppose. One thing that fascinates me is how the arch racist and Brexiteer Farage manages to report from the cliffs of Dover, filming the dinghies, but doesn't mention the 24 hour+ lorry queues on the M20, or the charities having to come to the assistance of the drivers stuck there. Selective reporting seems to be a characteristic of the Brexit cult.

Allsorts

Most of the people are economic migrants that go through several safe countries to get here. It’s for benefits they get here that they don’t get travelling through the other safe countries. It’s not fair on those that go through official channels to lose out to those paying huge amounts if money to people smugglers. There is no way we can take everyone in, I feel sorry for people born here with no chance of a home. If you feel so strongly take someone in, then the reply comes back, I’ve only one bedroom, sure. It always someone else’s problem. This country is obviously to these persistent whingers too bad to come to anyway.

If it's for the benefits, somebody needs to tell them that they're more generous in several other countries.

These fit young men who have LEFT all the vulnerable behind , travelled through loads of safe countries to get here won't be getting any sympathy from me

They have started to bring women and children with them now.

Approx 256 landed this morning, 111 yesterday, and there were children amongst them.
