It seems that the Home Secretary is willing to send people who having spent their recent lives escaping war are now to find themselves forcibly transported to a country now at war with its neighbour.

What is the matter with Patel?

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 13-Jun-22 21:08:23

The whole government is illogical!

Just a thought maybe a naive thought, but a thought nevertheless. Why are Ukraine asylum seekers not being processed in Rwanda? OH reckons it’s because they don’t look like us.

Why are Rwandan refugees coming here?
In fact, why are there still people escaping Rwanda?
If it's a place from which to escape, then why are we sending people there?

Apart from anything else, it's totally illogical

Callistemon21 Mon 13-Jun-22 21:03:35

Lee Anderson was suspended from Labour so he's got a grudge
Oh, that's why!

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking today.

They're fascists.

Head exploded yet?

Maudi Mon 13-Jun-22 20:48:13

Some just can't help themselves with the name calling can they just proves my point.

volver Mon 13-Jun-22 20:43:00

Maudi

So the name calling starts par for the course it seems when the left don't like your posts.

Oh give over. You're not influencing anybody and it just looks pathetic.

Lee Anderson was suspended from Labour so he's got a grudge. He was the man who said we only had so many foodbanks because people don't know how to cook.

Fascists.

Callistemon21 Mon 13-Jun-22 20:34:56

Lee Anderson is a British Conservative politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Ashfield since 2019. Prior to his parliamentary career he was a Labour councillor in Ashfield and later a Conservative councillor in Mansfield after defecting to the party in 2018

He was Labour ?

he is dangerous, I agree

volver Mon 13-Jun-22 20:28:10

When I read Anderson's tweet (if that's what it is), I thought, "this is war". The people that are meant to represent our interests are telling us that Labour isn't on our side, that the lawyers are lefties and the rich elite concerned about human rights is out to get us. He's not just ignorant, he's dangerous. Today's a turning point, I think.

No other party would do this? Just the fascists.

JaneJudge Mon 13-Jun-22 20:27:49

vile

Maudi Mon 13-Jun-22 19:56:59

Lee Anderson MP ?

Have Faith.

I see a few people are complaining there are not enough people on this flight tomorrow and I share the frustration.

However, this is a landmark judgement today which allows us to take people to Rwanda to process Asylum claims.

This is a massive victory and should not be talked down. Its been a real battle behind the scenes and I know this because I have been part of it.

Polite request, please get behind us because we are on your side unlike Labour, the lefty lawyers and human rights bosses on 6 figure salaries.

No other party would do this.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 19:49:41

Sue Perkins ?

Today, the govt pushed ahead with the most brutal, stupid and damaging responses to problems they created in the first place. This is where xenophobia and ‘sovereignty’ get you; breaking international law and sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.
Shameless, the lot of them.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 19:27:31

BREAKING: The entire senior leadership of the Church of England (every bishop in the House of Lords) has joined to decry the Rwanda scheme as "an immoral policy that shames Britain" in letter to
@TheTimes

There was a time when this would have given the Conservative. Party pause.

westendgirl Mon 13-Jun-22 19:18:19

I have already posted about the article in the Times 2 today, headed"Refugees shouldn't be sent to Rwanda. It's appalling and inhumane. It could have happened to my brother. Now before the high horses come charging in I will tell you that the writer arrived here at the age of 15 with little money and no education because of war. He did a variety of jobs , got himself educated, was accepted to read medicine at Cambridge and is an A&E doctor in the National Health.
His article is so moving and says " all refugees like myself want is safety and a fair chance to restart their life, for their claims to be assessed and for them to be able to contribute."
Dr Waheed Arian is from Afghanistan ,his family is split in different parts of the world, but they cannot get his father out. He goes on to say that "there are no visas and no safe route. For more than four decades we interfered in Afghanistan. We didn't go in with aid at first, we went in with bombs and and it's always the people who bear the brunt "
I think we should listen to this man who has seen many sides of the case, Why aren't refugees allowed to work ? there seems to be plenty of people looking for staff . That could be a start of treating these people humanely.

Nobody every answers the question - why do we want to deter these people who could if the proper channels were available benefit our economy given the opportunity?

Why do you think, RichmondPark?.

Why did all the refugee haters vote leave? Same reason for both... it begins with 'xen...

Your sweeping statement is incorrect.

This leave voter is neither xenophobic or racist and definitely not a ^refugee hater^

I said 'the refugee haters. I wasn't referring to all leave voters .but to those who have posted unpleasant anti refugee posts on this thread.

It was reported on the STV news that one of the people who was told he was going to be on the flight, got his hearing brought forward by his lawyers, has been released from detention and is now in Glasgow with his family. He clearly had a case to stay but they were going to deport him anyway.

Exactly. Those people whose tickets are being cancelled are innocent of any wrong doing, but Patel would have transported them with no way of returning if she hadn’t been stopped.

Utterly immoral.

BlueBelle Mon 13-Jun-22 19:02:27

Umstrongran where do you get such heartlessness from don’t you have any feelings for people trying to flee from harsh regimes, war areas, areas of extreme poverty to try to live an ordinary life Why can you only think bad of them and stuff you read or rumours you follow
Many are professional people or those with family here they want to be near, open your heart just a bit you will feel better for it

Urmstongran Mon 13-Jun-22 18:57:17

You eally think that news of a plane carrying fewer than 10 migrants to Rwanda will deter people

Yes, I do actually. Migrants will understand there will be more planes on a regular basis going forward.

Excellent news. Even if it was only one migrant it proves the point. We can build on this until it’s totally obvious that giving a people smuggler thousands ££s to get you to the Uk, assuming you don’t drown, is pointless.

Word will filter through now.

Completely agree.

You eally think that news of a plane carrying fewer than 10 migrants to Rwanda will deter people, when news of numerous drownings in the Channe doesn't?
These are both desperate and determined people's lives we are playing politics with.

Just imagine what they have to offer this country if given the opportunity to put that strength and determination into working and building a new life here!

JaneJudge Mon 13-Jun-22 18:34:39

I don't know, I just realise I am privileged by my birth here in the UK and the security I get from that as I am just another human being

I cannot imagine how desperate these people are

I got to work and pay my taxes and if my opinion makes me a left wing do gooder, so be it
