It seems that the Home Secretary is willing to send people who having spent their recent lives escaping war are now to find themselves forcibly transported to a country now at war with its neighbour.

What is the matter with Patel?

Why can we not establish centers to investigate these people while they are in France?

Urmstongran

Excellent news. Even if it was only one migrant it proves the point. We can build on this until it’s totally obvious that giving a people smuggler thousands ££s to get you to the Uk, assuming you don’t drown, is pointless.

Word will filter through now.

Completely agree.

Try iron tablets volver?

Let’s not forget that this scheme Is not to send the real refugees who are escaping persecution. It’s aim to to simply stop the unlimited illegal numbers of people who are arriving here daily. They are paying into this illegal business, they are told to throw away their passports so that they cannot be returned to their home country, if you study the people arriving on the beaches can you honestly say that they look poor or I’ll treated. how many can this country reasonably be expected to accommodate going forward. My sympathy will always go to real refugees, but not to these people who do the true refugees such an injustice. We need to stop this and if they think that they will be sent elsewhere then it may stop this illegal trade

The optics.

Give me strength.

Let's hope so, although the so called human rights lawyers won't like it, no illegals no legal aid cash, ain't that the truth.

How very naive how do you know these mostly fit young men are not guilty of any crimes they might have thrown away their id papers or paid for forged ones they knew enough to pay the smuggler gangs thousands of euros for the dinghy crossing. They could be murderers, rapists.

Urmstongran Mon 13-Jun-22 17:10:33

The plane is going tomorrow MawBee. There is another judicial review though next month. Today’s appeal by the charities involved failed to win their case. The flight sends a strong message to migrants arriving by rubber dinghies. The optics are important now as the flight will take off.

It's a very expensive vanity project for Priti Patel and Johnson's right-wing it seems to me.

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Jun-22 17:03:14

Luckily there's a full hearing next month on whether the policy is actually legal or not. If not (as many of us expect) I hope these eight are brought back and are given the chance to prove their cases and are compensated.
Then we should draw a line under this shameful policy and start to process asylum requests properly.

MayBee70 Mon 13-Jun-22 17:02:24

I’m a bit confused as to what has actually happened. Is the plane going tomorrow or is there going to be another appeal? It all sounds very complicated.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 17:00:27

Don’t forget that this judgement does not mean that the policy is lawful. That case has yet to be judged - July I think.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 16:56:20

If Patel had had her way without any court case, those people would have been transported to Rwanda with no right of return. And yet they are innocent if any crime.

volver Mon 13-Jun-22 16:46:49

Sorry - that's 31, 23, but still eight.

volver Mon 13-Jun-22 16:44:41

Last count, of the 37 people initially earmarked for the flight, 29 of them had launched successful legal appeals. Eight to go.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 16:42:06

The racists must be so pleased!

Urmstongran Mon 13-Jun-22 16:39:28

Appeal court judges refuse to stop tomorrow’s flight to Rwanda.

Luckygirl3 Mon 13-Jun-22 09:10:54

I gather the number is gradually being whittled down to "single figures" and might be 0. Well - there's another failed policy. I wonder how much money has been paid out to Rwanda and we will not see again. [finger-down-throat icon]

Care4Calais

Today I had the most amazing phone call. A man who has suffered the worst torture I have ever had described to me has just had his ticket to Rwanda cancelled. For at least ten minutes we have both cried on the phone with total happiness and relief.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 08:56:48

What have these people done to promote such harsh treatment?

They are not criminals.

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Jun-22 08:46:22

Vegansrock - they probably don't want anyone coming here so making a safe and legal route is obviously not on the agenda.

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Jun-22 08:44:20

Why, Urnstongran? I don't understand why??

It seems to be inhumane and probably illegal so I can't see it makes it any better (or more legal) flying from an army base?
It just means that the armed forces are potentially doing something illegal instead of a commercial company.

Urmstongran Mon 13-Jun-22 08:00:01

I wish the flight was on an Army plane from Brize Norton. That would be better in my opinion.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 13-Jun-22 07:39:37

Staff like flight attendants etc are worried that they are being asked to take part in what has been announced as breaking international law.
