I think it's gone beyond debates around 'better the devil you know', or political expediency. It's a serious matter of basic principles of conduct in public life.

The PM has disgraced his office, and now that the vote has been called those supporting him would be condoning his behaviour and lowering themselves to his level.

A terrible thought that there might be 84 of them.

But a citizen plonker in a so far free country Maudi.

Maudi Mon 06-Jun-22 16:46:16

I see the idiot Steve Bray has been let out from where who knows onto Parliament Green with his stupid EU Flag waving what a plonker.

Quite a sight in Parliament. Nadine Dorries is hysterical and attacking colleagues. Jacob Rees-Mogg is trying to calm her down and has poured her a whisky in the tea room repeating the words “Que Sera, Sera.” I’m in the corner with a glass of champagne trying not to laugh.

"Wish you were here"
?

He must have thicker skin than a rhino.

I'm sure my MP will support him as usual.
I was going to use a rude term but it would probably get deleted.

I hope Boris wins the vote, Hunt is bitter May's patsy.

So do I but not for the same reasons I suspect?

They could, theoretically, elect a backbencher. From memory, Blair had never held a ministerial post.

But Blair led the LP to a GE victory. So the only comparable person to him is Johnson!

CaravanSerai Mon 06-Jun-22 15:58:08

John Steven of the Mail is attempting to keep and tweet a running tally of MPs openly supporting the PM. Two hours to go before the voting begins. He counts 117 of the 180 needed.

He tweets - Priti Patel is the only Cabinet minister not to publicly voice support for Boris Johnson although I'm assured she does.

Would you trust this woman with a sharp or blunt instrument?

HousePlantQueen Mon 06-Jun-22 15:41:15

Hunt can wear a suit, talk coherently and presumably won't be an embarrasment on the international stage......but remember, he is responsible for the decline and sell off of the NHS and was the one who shelved the results of Operation Cygnet as being 'too hard' thus we hit covid ill prepared. All the decent Tories with morals have been kicked out of the party.

DiamondLily Mon 06-Jun-22 15:27:02

Shadow ministerial post obviously.

The sad thing is that so many of the people interviewed in the various vox pops around the country are saying that (ito) there's no one other than Johnson who could do the job. This is where he has been a master strategist, surrounding himself with weak/ nasty/dangerous ministers who are as equally unpalatable as he is. Hobson's Choice.

Indeed. Truss should have resigned in 2019 over illegal arms sales to Saudi. She's a dangerous woman. I'm no fan of Hunt either.

Dorries now on Sky with Beth Rigby demonstrating that she doesn't understand democracy either. How did this woman rise to a ministerial position other than sheer sycophancy?

She adores Johnson, says yes to his every statement, and is a Brexiteer.

The trouble is that she does like a drink or ten, and then she loses coherence.?

I'd like to see Tugendhat as leader.

Truss would be a complete disaster. She blunders about, thinking she's Thatcher Mark 11.

But, almost anyone would be better than what we've got.

Glorianny Mon 06-Jun-22 15:00:43

I would imagine the majority of Tory MPs are now wondering which is best stick with the idiot you know or go with one you know little about?

Let's hope the bookies are right. The thought of Ms Truss riding to Ukraine in a tank is the sort of thing that wakes you up at 3am.

CaravanSerai Mon 06-Jun-22 14:37:38

Dorries demonstrating that she doesn't understand the concept of collective responsibility.

Paddy Power now offering Hunt 4/1 favourite to be next Tory Leader followed by Tugendhat 6/1. Truss has dropped to 9/1.

Dorries has gone completely bat**** crazy about Jeremy Hunt.

Its like the last days of the Roman Empire.

Yes I saw that?. Mad as a box of frogs.

Nadine Dorries has been "bat** crazy " for some time nothing new there except the object of her affection!

I think she's been at the grog a little early in the day. She's running off at the mouth and making it worse.

Her hero must be hoping she'll shut up soon...?

DiamondLily Mon 06-Jun-22 14:31:23

Nadine Dorries has started a row with Jeremy Hunt on Twitter.

Far from helping her hero, Boris, it seems to be turning more against him.

And she admits the Conservative government failed to prepare for a pandemic properly

Pittcity Mon 06-Jun-22 14:17:18

Well our MP is voting for Boris as he'll do anything to climb the career ladder. angry

Wheniwasyourage Mon 06-Jun-22 14:09:01

Presumably a lot of Tory MPs have had rockets ? applied to sensitive spots by their party members when they were in their constituencies this weekend. Presumably also they are listening to the party members as they don't seem to reply to the rest of us plebs who email them...
