I recently started watching GB News and am finding it so interesting. Once you get past the different format to the usual news programmes it is very good. There are so many different views expressed from all political spectrums. I like that contributors are allowed to say their piece and it's then debated. Not just left or right wing views.

Be careful. These last few posts are easily construed as subtly bullying another poster, that is not on.

Bully for You Meaning
Occasionally, this expression is used to praise someone sincerely. However, this usage is not incredibly common in the present day. Nowadays, this expression is often sarcastic. A person might use this if he or she thinks that someone's story is boring or not very good.

You be careful Casdon and read back before you fling your accusations!!

I was.

Oh, goodness, not another saying that has changed its meaning just to confuse us..
It used to mean praise.

Do keep up Shinamae!

Casdon what are you on about??
There are posters in different countries on GN and posters who have lived here awhile but are not British and so wouldn’t ‘get’ various sayings.
Are you British yourself? Are you confusing ‘bully for you’ with bullying maybe.

No. I am British, and I know exactly what Bully for you means in everyday parlance here. It’s a mean thing to say. I was just pointing out the common use. FannyCornforth has taken it on the chin, but other people wouldn’t have done.

🙄

Glorie de piero is a member of the Labour part. She has her own show on the channel.

Both good and interesting 👍🏻

I think that most regular posters know that I’m British.
I would have certainly mentioned it if I wasn’t. I mention everything else smile

Oh dear! I wasn’t insinuating anything like that Shinamae, and I didn’t think that you were either!

I just thought that you were being sarky, which you said you were

I was Fanny, all quite lighthearted really..🤷‍♀️

Shinamae yes, I understand the term ‘bully for you’ to be a written equivalent to the gesture of a thumbed nose.
Personal was the wrong word, I admit

Wrong!
But to be totally honest, there might be a teeny-weeny bit of sarcasm on my part 😁

This!! Actually quite lighthearted ..

Fanny I'm not sure I understood your post?
Looking after a sick dog, ill husband and I've got a temperature that would power the national grid😁

Oh no! That sounds dreadful, you poor thing.
I hope that you all feel much better soon.
It never rains but pours thanksbrew

I don’t know why you are being so personal Shinamae( ‘Bully for you!’)

And I don’t understand your comment to me Namsnanny.

I have watched/ do watch both GBNews and Talk (albeit listen on the radio, I’m really into my speech radio)
I’ve already mentioned this, probably several times

It is possible to be impartial you know

I understood Bully for you to mean Bravo, well done!

It’s possible that the poster FannyCornforth isn’t British so doesn’t get ‘bully for you’ which is a common saying here.

Shinamae Sun 09-Jul-23 09:50:51

Peoples panel on now, and Alan Milburn talking about the gaps in education. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

maddyone Sun 09-Jul-23 08:20:14

Morning Fanny and everyone else.
I’ll have a listen to Talk when I get home.
