I recently started watching GB News and am finding it so interesting. Once you get past the different format to the usual news programmes it is very good. There are so many different views expressed from all political spectrums. I like that contributors are allowed to say their piece and it's then debated. Not just left or right wing views.

Maizie I read about it earlier and I'm a bit baffled. If it's true, why indeed isn't it being reported elsewhere? Is it some kind of sophisticated hoax? I'm sitting on the fence until I know more.

tickingbird Tue 18-Jul-23 08:08:03

It’s been on twitter for a week with allegations of his suspension but I watched when he announced he was off for two weeks as he was going to New Zealand to visit family. He’s now back on screen. I’m sure if it’s true there’ll be more. Maybe someone should approach The Sun.

MaizieD Tue 18-Jul-23 08:11:24

I don't think that Byline Times has a reputation for mendacity.

If it had been in the Sun I would have thought twice about posting it..

It’s made the Guardian.

Who is Dan Wootton?

Casdon Tue 18-Jul-23 21:11:47

I looked him up after MaizieD’s post. He’s a journalist, he presents a nightly show. It’s all over Twitter.

Fanny I'm not sure I understood your post?
Looking after a sick dog, ill husband and I've got a temperature that would power the national grid😁

Oh no! That sounds dreadful, you poor thing.
I hope that you all feel much better soon.
It never rains but pours thanksbrew

Thank you FannyCornforth feeling sluggish but much better.

I was wondering when the MSM would pick up the story. It was beginning to look as though it had been buried. There's something not right about it all.

Why isn't it getting the Huw Edwards treatment?
Because we don't know who he is perhaps?

Namsnanny Tue 18-Jul-23 22:52:56

I can't imagine the msn would bury any story about gbn. Perhaps people are keeping their powder dry, ie, waiting to see the truth about the DW story, rather than piling in on twitter twoddle?

I had a look, realise I may have seen him, but he's hardly as well-known as Huw Edwards who was a national institution.

The BBC and the Mirror have now picked up the story. Wootton is claiming that he's the victim of a witch hunt.

Yes - Coutts shows good judgement.

I paraphrase

“Seen as xenophobic and racist. Seen as a grifter.

Being associated with Farage risks the banks reputation”

DiamondLily Wed 19-Jul-23 07:35:09

The DM and the Sun are also carrying out investigations into Wootton, as he has been employed by them, as a columnist, at various times:

This so called report Farage has hasn't been seen by anyone though. We only have Farage's word for it, I think.

It's a private bank, so they can do as they like, but, quite honestly, I would have thought a bank's only interest is in how the accounts are conducted.

I can't stand Farage, but it's a bit of a slippery slope if banks start getting involved in the political views of their customers.

It's nothing to do with them.🙄

The DW stuff has been floating around for ages. I presume the same rules apply as they did when we tried to talk about HE. We cant possibly be allowed to talk about it.

But it’s ok for Coutts to have Prince Andrew as a customer.

That's why I posted it on this thread where the GBN lovers who'd laid into Huw Edwards would know who he was.

I thought that GBN was very well known and popular. So it's devotees were telling us... 🤔

Be interesting to know how many sheiks/oligarchs and dodgy African heads of states with appalling human rights records align with Coutts’ values.

As someone upthread said, it’s a slippery slope.

Blooming heck!
I had no idea.

However, for years I’ve known that Dan Wootton is an insufferable arse.
He pops up over various platforms.
Never seems to hang around long

Banks are using an Ai program to scour social media sites to pick out any customers who don’t align with their policies.

MerylStreep Wed 19-Jul-23 08:29:37

I gave Dan Wootton a look, but, he rants, won’t watch ranters.

eazybee Wed 19-Jul-23 09:57:26

From the BBC News website
Broadcaster Dan Wootton has admitted making "errors of judgement in the past" but denied any criminality as he responded to claims made against him.

Reports have included claims he offered media colleagues thousands of pounds for explicit material of themselves.

Wootton said on his GB News show he was the victim of a "witch hunt" by "nefarious players".

The publishers of the Sun and MailOnline say they are looking into allegations against him.

Various claims made on social media and in publications including the Byline Times, which first reported the story, and the Guardian, formed part of a campaign to get Wootton "cancelled", he told viewers of GB News' Dan Wootton Tonight.
