The Tory party needs a leader who demonstartes the prevailing standards of moral probity or intelligence

How about Chris Pincher or David Warburton if moral probity is key or Nadine Dorries or Jacon Rees Mogg to demonstrate the typical level of intelligence?

The main things I know about Penny Mordaunt are 1) she appeared in a TV celebrity programme called Splash as a diver and 2) she took on a bet as to how many times she could say the word ‘cock’ in parliament and pretended to be discussing the poultry industry. So please, NO!

Has anyone ever heard of Lord Frost? David Frost was basically the person who did all the negotiations that took us out of Europe. He writes very good, sensible articles for the Telegraph. If only he was an MP and not a Lord he would be perfect as prime minister.

Johnson will be PM for a while yet while the Tories try to choose someone to win the next GE so he's got plenty of time to mess up the UK, our relationship with the EU and the cost of living crisis as well as persecuting his pet hates like Channel 4 and the BBC. Perhaps they might choose Nadine Dorries - what larks!

People of my generation were lucky enough to have real leaders to choose from for the reason that most of them had served in the Second World War. They had learned the hard way what leadership means and it’s not “don’t do as I do do as I say”. No, they probably weren’t angels - who is - but they weren’t serial liars. John Profumo admitted his misdeeds, resigned and spent the rest of his life raising money for the less fortunate with his wife, Valerie Hobson. I could go on…

No surprise if any of the BBC, ITV, SKY presenters throw their hat into the ring as they have contributed consistently and with extreme bias to Boris's demise. Dominic Cummings even !!!

Neilspurgeon0 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:36:38

To support DaisyMae that dreadful woman is MY MP alas and almost the first to pop her name into the hat. She would be a disaster, Penny Mordant would actually get my vote but both Mercer and Tudenhat have integrity and could make viable senior ministers.

Being PM was an end in itself for Boris, there was no real desire to improve the country in any way.
How seemingly people of integrity are passed over beats me.
In the past, I thought David Steel and Michael Heseltine might have cut it, and Ed rather than his brother mystified me.

Being PM was an end in itself for Boris, there was no real desire to improve the country in any way.

I really think this is the crux of the matter, and sums him up completely - and thus the state we are in now.

A very astute observation - it basically says it all.

Please can we just have someone, anyone who is truthful, altruistic, hard working and not out for themselves. Any party!

NotSpaghetti Thu 07-Jul-22 11:33:47

Why can't we have a Muslim PM?
We are a multi-cultural country.

Me too!

Peaseblossom Thu 07-Jul-22 11:27:57

Dishy Rishi Sunak?! Really?!

orly Thu 07-Jul-22 11:27:28

I just hope it's not someone who has dual nationality/passports and can bunk off back to another country when things go wrong.

Leolady73 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:26:38

After the last twelve years I don’t trust any of them - they only conserve for themselves. More poverty for working people and more billionaires! Can’t be right!

Toula Thu 07-Jul-22 11:25:15

Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse? All current mp's since Mrs Thatcher are right mucking fuddlers or trucking tankers IMHO

From Twitter - choosing a new Tory leader is like deciding which portaloo to use at Glastonbury.

Fabulous! And correct. They are all full of s**t.

SecondhandRose Thu 07-Jul-22 11:23:41

Sir Keir is a closet conservative. Maybe him.

helgawills Thu 07-Jul-22 11:22:27

You can't trust any Tory. They all knew his relationship with truth, honour and integrity was non existent. Still they voted for him, supported him, until public perception changed. Worried about their own futures! I don't have words to describe any of them.

maturefloosy Thu 07-Jul-22 11:20:19

The Number 10 Cat and Paddington . . . . . . smile

Buttonjugs Thu 07-Jul-22 11:19:28

Ben Wallace seems to be favourite. I hope so, he’s the best of a bad bunch. The Tories will have to choose carefully and I reckon they’ll be avoiding the Bullingdon Boys.

Jacob Rees Mog for me! I admire his integrity. Steve Baker when he has had a bit more experience.

Jacob Rees Mogg?! Integrity?! Are you okay?

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:15:19

It won’t be me!!!

25Avalon Thu 07-Jul-22 11:14:40

Mordaunt is top favourite with the bookies.

Juniper1 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:13:15

Let’s hope they choose unwisely again, and we can get a Labour government.
Any of the cutting cabinet would do for this premis

Glorianny Thu 07-Jul-22 11:04:53

They'll be wondering who can keep the red wall for them. I'm not sure there is anyone.
