That's it. No suprise there then.

Is this the same Durham which now has four Conservative MPs? Why's that?

Anniebach Sun 10-Jul-22 10:03:51

The union vote gave us Ed Milliband instead of David Milliband, then followed this with Corbyn.

Unless people have inherited wealth, most people are "working people".

Anniebach Sun 10-Jul-22 09:57:38

So that’s why it’s called the Labour Party thank you Grany
I must read again Keir Hardie’s letters to my g grandfather, wish I could post photographs on here, I am sure you would be
interested, have one of Hardie and my g grandfather on the balcony of Merthyr town hall when Hardie won the seat in the
1900 general election

Having someone from the 'looney left'or the 'far right' heading a government never works well

Galaxy Sun 10-Jul-22 09:38:59

Oh well if Starmer was booed at the Gala that must mean revolution is imminent. Or the same thing that happens every year with no impact on politics whatsoever.

Casdon Sun 10-Jul-22 09:33:46

Grany

Well Annie turning up the heat on Starmer means getting him to act in the interests of working people the Labour Party was started for the working people that's why it's called Labour.

It was a great speech as you would expect from Mick Lynch and when he mentioned Starmer there were loud boos.

My opinion is I'm not the only one who thinks this Starmer is for the Establishment he won't rock the boat. He is only a little less Tory than the Tories who really wants that. But if he stands up for the working people he will have a chance of government

He does act in the interests of working people Grany. He is not however in the thrall of the unions. The tail is no longer wagging the dog in the Labour Party, which is healthy and right - and means that the Labour Party will have a chance of government for the first time in 12 years.

How is calling on a Labour leader to back working people turning up heat ?

Grany Sun 10-Jul-22 08:32:24

RMT boss Mick Lynch turns up heat on Keir Starmer at scorching Durham Miners' Gala

The RMT general secretary called on the Labour leader to back working people and their fight for higher pay and better employment conditions.

I have a left leaning iPad ?

Farzanah Fri 08-Jul-22 14:01:52

Ha ha, sorry!

Zonne Fri 08-Jul-22 13:58:29

I'm sure they're flying on twitter

I want to go and check, but I'm worried I'll end up wasting a lovely day correcting cretins!

Mamie Fri 08-Jul-22 13:57:13

I like the typo of Rothermerd(e). Merde is about right.
???

Farzanah Fri 08-Jul-22 13:51:28

From Polly Toynbee Guardian columnist
Of all the guilty men and women in the dismal reign of Boris Johnson, the British right wing press bears heavy responsibility for what the country has become. From the self lacerating Brexit referendum to the elevation of a man they knew to be unfit, they set the pace, at the behest of extreme Brexiteer press barons - Murdoch-Rothermerd-Barclay foghorns still dominate the political landscape.

AGAA4 Fri 08-Jul-22 13:50:32

That's a relief. The Tories are in a complete mess so glad that Labour is still functioning.

MissAdventure Fri 08-Jul-22 13:50:05

He said he would resign if he was found to have breached any rules.
I have never doubted that he was being truthful.

I think it was a half baked story to try and distract from the real pee takers.

From Twitter should the Daily Mail be fined for wasting police time? ?

They won't but when they look how it's hacked into their budget they will probably wish they could.

He wouldn’t have put it all on the line if he had thought there was the slightest possibility it could have gone the other way

You'd expect a former Director of Public Prosecutions to be just a wee bit clued up about rules of evidence and interpreting the law.

It was nonsense right from the start.

You would, wouldn't you Maizie. What a complete waste of money.

Starmer knows the law.

He has a reputation to uphold, he would not have knowingly broken the law.

Exactly. But my very right-wing neighbour has just said "why did he have a beer then".

I did point out that they had been knocking on doors all day, the hotel was not serving meals, and why shouldn't he have a beer - but I don't think she will change her mind as the prejudice is well entrenched (she is otherwise a very nice person).

Whitewavemark2 Fri 08-Jul-22 13:35:18

What I do think this shows is the level of pressure that can come from the press.

The police had looked at it, and pronounced no case to answer, and yet were forced by the DM to review their decision.

This can’t be right.

There needs to be a look at the type of power the press has and how undemocratic this country is as a result.

Yammy Fri 08-Jul-22 13:32:04

With all his legal knowledge why was he ever doubted?

Doodledog Fri 08-Jul-22 13:28:46

What Devorgilla said grin.

Farzanah Fri 08-Jul-22 13:28:45

Devorgilla Fri 08-Jul-22 13:26:24

Great news. I never thought he would be found guilty. A man of decency and integrity. Good news Angela has also been cleared. Onwards and upwards to a Labour Government.
