Thank goodness I took his advice a couple of weeks ago and fixed for two years.
I was very reluctant to opt for an option that left me worse off but looks like I could have made the right decision.

And Martin said on breakfast tv that he’s liaising with fuel companies to help people that can’t afford to pay their bills because the government are doing nothing.

If you pay £150/mth now, from Oct £250, Jan £255
If you pay £200/mth now, from Oct £330, Jan £340
If you pay £300/mth now, from Oct £495, Jan £510

The full state pension is £185/wk so £9,620/yr.

A typical ENERGY bill (not mortgage, not rent) from Oct is likely to be OVER a third of that (and many older people will have higher than typical use.

It should not be left to Mr Lewis. The government - such as it is - must take action on fuel costs and on the cost of living. Johnson wasted so much time on home decoration and furnishing.

My energy supplier offered a fix rate, by the time we had discussed it they closed the offer ?

What is going to happen to the standing charge? We can use less electricity but have no choice with the daily rate.

I was offered a new fixed rate for when mine ends at the end of this month but at £450 a month I've declined it. It's not true to say the government have done nothing, they have but they haven't yet been paid. Well except the council tax rebate but I don't qualify for that.

It really is sickening. I don't know how we will cope next winter. It's either heat or eat... So stock up on blankets and hot water bottles.

EDF energy which was 80% owned by the French government has now been 100% nationalised. Energy bill in France are up 4% - U.K. 54%. So the claim that it’s the same everywhere and the government can do nothing is a big fat LIE.

The problem is though FlexibleFriend that you won’t have to spend anything at all for your bills to go up, unless they don’t raise the standing charge again in October, which is currently the plan although Ofgen are looking at it.

We will all keep our fingers crossed, because that element of our bills is very substantial already.

My fixed term ends in October so I’m expecting to be hit with a huge increase. I am also 66 in October so will be getting my Stare Pension - I reckon it might just about cover the hike in energy bills and petrol!

I get that vegansrock but also he fixed rate deal they offered for when my current one ends is till far higher than the capped rate put out yesterday. I'm going to wait and see what happens tbh . I'm a very low user of gas so yes of course the price will go up along with everyone else's but there's also nothing I can cut back on. I'm having solar panels installed which won't make much of a difference this year but will in the future and my son is buying an electric car which will massively reduce his petrol costs and Octopus offer a cheap night time rate if you have an EV charger, which I will. The outlay for all that dwarfs the energy rises but it's a one off payment which will be recovered quite quickly at this rate.

I have been busy prepping for the cold months. I refuse to be huddled in a blanket so have been making warm layering clothes. I shall be wearing my insulation.

We have a fixed rate ending in November. We’ve just done the maths, think our current overpayments and the government payments will cover our winter standing charges/heating on frost protection level, so are going travelling for several months, maybe longer. It won’t be any cheaper than paying the damn utility bills here, but it’ll be a lot more fun!
