A Swell Idea From ASDA To Deter Shoplifters!
I was chatting with a friend at the weekend and she suddenly said - "They were horrible to him".
Suddenly, we hadn't been discussing the subject.
I was so puzzled, said I didn't want to talk about it. We could have fallen out.
Explains why he still has so much support in the country.

Just heard a snippet of an interview with his father ( I don’t remember other PM’s that had their dads speak for them) and the bit I heard said his political ambitions weren’t over. But I heard nothing about his political ambitions being about wanting to make the world a better place. His political ambitions seem to be about living in fancy houses, jetting round the world and wearing silly outfits.
He’s obviously planning to become president. Everything Grany has been dreaming if for years will come true. He will be the popular choice no doubt,
He wouldn't like being President because a president would have no power. But our current HoS spent a lot of time visiting schools and factories, being waved at and travelling around the world schmoozing other heads of state. So maybe a good job for Johnson after all - no real point to them and people like them irrespective of what they're really like.
he was lucky to last as long as he did, the man has been sacked 3x now for lying and has no sense of decency, he was with his girlfriend in his house with his wife whilst she was having cancer treatment. A kick in the goolies is too good for this guy. We need a caring, compassionate gov't who will properly fund the NHS and set up a social care scheme, Labour will do a good job, they set the NHS up in the 1st place
PS I’m not being facetious, I don’t think his personal ambition has any bounds.

You’re right. He doesn’t speak Russian. I’ve just googled it. So that’s that theory scuppered then!
He seems to be a master of b******t, MayBee.
His French is supposed to be fluent, but the little bit that I've actually heard him speak (as opposed to present as a pre-prepared) has sounded pretty c**p to me, though I would be interested in the opinion of any native French-speaking Gransnetters who've heard him speak.
Mind you, he bumbles, umms and ers his way through English, too, rarely using the best, most appropriate words if he can throw in ten more obscure synonyms instead.
He obviously speaks fluent English, but I would argue that he doesn't speak it fluently!

Another view of the dreaded Boris is that he is an absolute hero in the Ukraine apparently. Just listening to a Ukrainian spokesman on our tv . They make Boris cakes in his honour !
My theory of that is that I believe that, unlike all of the other world leaders that have visited Ukraine, Johnson speaks Russian. And he can be very charming when he wants to be. Which has impressed them. I’m probably wrong though. I find it hard to believe that Zelensky has been taken in by him, though; maybe he’s just being pragmatic.
I'm not convinced that Boris does speak Russian. I have not seen or heard anything to lead me believe that he can conduct a conversation in that language, which is my definition of being able to speak a language. He can memorize and give a short speech in Russian - and has done the same in Ukranian too- but even I could do that!

nanna8 As far as Ukraine is concerned, Boris has really enjoyed playing the Churchillian frontman. I think the Ukrainians would have been much less enamoured of him had he been the Minister of Defence and the man actually responsible for organising the British response to the Russian invasion.
The person, who has actually got the arms and supplies on the ground in Ukraine and negotiated what would be supplied and how, is the Minister of Defence, Ben Wallace. He was highly tipped a s a potential Conservative leader, but he declined to stand. He also did not resign from Cabinet or offer an opinion on Johnson. He knows that the most important part of helping the Ukrainians is keeping the supplies flowing and ensuring the training of the Ukrainian army in a planned nd efficient manner.
I think it is a great shame he isn't standing, but can understand where he sees his priorities as lying. he has done more to ensure help reaches the Ukrainians than any of Borises posing and prancing.

As I said Keir has no loyalty to this Country
That's quite an accusation - can you back it up with some facts - or at least an opinion on why you think he has no loyalty to this country?
I've heard plenty of people say he's a traitor to the true working class, but I've not yet heard him accused of disloyalty to the nation
.

These apologists for Johnson seem as deluded as he is.
Allsorts, where’s your evidence that Starmer is not loyal to his country?I was thinking exactly the same, lam64.
I'd like to hear why Allsorts says this, too.
Definitely viewed as a buffoon for a long time by friends abroad and as leaving lockdown too late

Internationally Boris Johnson is a laughing stock and brings shame on this country. He is seen as a second Trump and you cannot fall much lower than that. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jun/29/the-guardian-view-boris-johnson-abroad-more-indulged-than-feted-ukraine-european
I heard an Irish diplomat/politician on the tadio discussing the border situation in Ireland and saying in a quiet dispassionate voice that negotiations with the UK were pointless because they were negotiating with a liar, not a word of whose could be believed because what he said one day would be denied the next.
These apologists for Johnson seem as deluded as he is.

Yes I do think he was bullied, and no I do not think he is a bully. Flawed yes, but a fighter and courageous.
One of his faults was being too loyal, witness Dominic Cummings, Owen Paterson and others; bad judgements that led to his downfall.
Margaret Thatcher was pressured, and resigned with grace; we got John Major, who paved the way for T.Blair, who isn't dead yet.
Have you read about his antics at university ?
Where is Johnson well liked? In loads of places in the U.K. he is disliked immensely and that has led to his downfall He’ll be remembered for his lies and giving contracts and rewards to his cronies and donors, dividing the country and flushing the economy down the toilet.
How can you justify the claim that Starmer has no loyalty to the country?
Johnson is an object of ridicule in many countries. I don't know where you get the idea that he's well-liked. Unfortunately, he's dragged the reputation of the country with him.
Yes the principle is the same Dianhmo. What was the point of all that heckling for months, instead of dealing with real politics. Now another leader has to be chosen. As I said Keir has no loyalty to this Country, he didn’t care if we went to the dogs as long as Boris went. I did not agree with what he and Boris did, they were both,. Boris is well liked abroad, he has a way of engaging with people, that is what is important, but it’s done now so we move on. But it’s not a victory.
Boris, whatever, will be remembered for two things. Getting Brexit done, getting us out of Europe, what we voted for, Covid and the vaccination programme, party gate and the wall paper business won’t be bothered about. Churchill is remembered for the war, Blair forever tainted by Iraq.
So your patronising comment about the Universe I inhabit falls on stony ground, I live in the real world and don’t pick at a scab until it never heals. People are allowed their own views otgers make an enemy if those who don’t follow their oath
M0nica
The reason Boris stood by Dominic Cummings, Owen Patterson. Chris Pincher et al had nothing to do with loyalty, everything to do with him not thinking that anything they did was particularly heinous, in the same way he appointed Chris Pincher, knowing his reputation.
Boris has no sense of honour and integrity and saw no reason why others lacking both, or who even behaved in ways that, at best, bordered on legality, should need to resign.
Exactly so.
