None of them impress me.

More than likely winterwhite ... it’s being reported that Rishi Sunak ‘loaned’ support to get Jeremy Hunt over the line & into the last 8.

winterwhite Tue 12-Jul-22 21:53:01

Kemi Badenoch lacks the experience to be PM. Best she can hope for is a Cabinet post. Ditto alas Tom Tugendhat tho he is v impressive.
There must be a lot of gameing going on!

Urmstongran Tue 12-Jul-22 21:42:58

Me too. I’m not a fan of Liz Truss. Your comment made me laugh Casdon.

Whoever it is will be facing Labour in a GE in a couple of years.

C’ mon Kemi!

Mapleleaf Tue 12-Jul-22 21:42:37

Well, personally, I think it’s a forgone conclusion and Richi Sunak will be the new Prime Minister. The way is being paved - some putting themselves forward are little known - and to be honest, I don’t think now is the right time for novices, others I think are non starters such as Liz Truss - isn’t she the one who got some geographical facts regarding The Baltic and The Black Sea spectacularly wrong recently (February time, I think)? I don’t think this is her only gaffe, either - haven’t we had enough with BJ’s gaffes?

None of them fill me with confidence, to be perfectly honest.

I wonder who Ben Wallace with throw his cap in with - I would speculate that that person will win.
Really, really hope he doesn't choose Ms Truss.

Casdon Tue 12-Jul-22 21:29:50

I always get the impression with Liz Truss that she loves her mirror more than anything else. I can imagine her gazing at herself for hours saying Mirror, mirror on the wall, I’m the fairest PM of all?

The fact that 8 candidates managed 20 votes each says something about how difficult it’s going to be for whoever wins the vote ultimately to hold the party together, that must be unusual in itself I would think.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Jul-22 21:27:44

No, she didn’t. She was my No.4 so I still have 3 favourites in the running! All women.

Patel never really got off the ground did she! grin

Iam64 Tue 12-Jul-22 21:17:50

I like Tugendhat, server his country, must have some leadership skills and experience. I expect he’s not right wing enough for the tories
I’m unimpressed by Komi -nd Suella
Liz Truss is a lightweight and I can’t understand her appeal
Zahawe seems a duplicitous insincere individual, untrustworthy
Jeremy Hunt a bit yesterday and wasn’t good in health
Who is this Penny Mordant? Interesting background, some good life, navy and political experience. Can she do it? I don’t know enough but she seems a stronger candidate then Truss
Plus Truss is supported by Smug and Dorris. Kiss of death surely

Shirley48 Tue 12-Jul-22 21:06:06

Penny Mordaunt took a job as a magician’s assistant once, so I think she would be very appropriate for this government.

Callistemon21 Tue 12-Jul-22 20:51:30

As I wrote on a ballot paper once:

NONE OF THE ABOVE

Ailidh Tue 12-Jul-22 19:56:22

I'm intrigued to know what has boosted Penny Mordaunt's "approval rating" so quickly.

I'd also like to see a side by side of what they say they believe on various subjects. Telling me that one used to be a magician's assistant and one wants to cut taxes isn't a helpful comparison.

I have no say in the matter, I'd just like to know.

Can’t wait for the autumn - we’ll all have lower taxes and the NHS, social care, police will all be given so much more support.

I know it's so exciting .... all our troubles felled in one blow!

But seriously, Liz Truss is a real lightweight and would be an embarrassment - we have had more than enough of that scenario.

Frankly, there is no-one there who floats my boat - but that is not surprising.

I would be happy with Suella Braverman as PM but don't think it will happen, but hey ho what do I know.

Maudi Tue 12-Jul-22 19:31:41

I hope Zahawi gets knocked out of the race, displayed bad form accepting the job of Chancellor then next day told Boris to resign. Not to be trusted in my opinion.

I don't think Kemi will make it, I think she will be out in the first race.

I hope Jeremy Hunt falls at the first hurdle and Tugendhat follows him.

I hope it's Truss who pips them all at the post.

suzie20 Tue 12-Jul-22 19:28:39

According to Marcus the psychic pig the new PM will be Suella Braverman.

Thanks, so not too long to wait for the first round.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Jul-22 19:16:48

Ballot is between 1:30 - 3:30pm tomorrow. ?

Lexisgranny Tue 12-Jul-22 19:06:57

Ballot is between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm tomorrow

When will the results of tomorrow’s votes be announced Urms?

LauraNorderr Tue 12-Jul-22 18:19:42

An interesting bunch Urms, nothing new and exciting there.
Discounting Kim Badenach simply because she’s being backed by slimy toad Gove who I suspect he thinks her lack of experience will allow him to manipulate her.
I’m discounting Jeremy Hunt as incompetent in his handling of the NHS and as a remainer.
Not sure about Liz Truss after hearing JRM and Dorries endorsing her, kiss of death perhaps.
Am listening carefully to the others. So far nothing floats my boat.
Would like to read the views of others but without a hate fest. Sensible and measured comment might help me decide.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Jul-22 18:03:33

Sir Graham Brady has just announced them. Wonder who will win? First voting tomorrow.
