I’m like a dog with a bone. I just looked to see if they both got firsts. He did, but when I typed Liz Truss first, it led me to Liz Truss fur hat - which sums it up for me!

I'm not an accountant but I could ask the accountants in the family!
However, I think previously (last year) one had said that Johnson should go and Rishi should become PM.

Thanks oldnproud it looks now Truss might get the top job!
The knee jerk misogyny still runs deep though doesn’t it.. the common comment on how daft and shallow and stupid she is, Rishi’s dismissal of her fairytale economics, when it was she who graduated from Oxford reading philosophy politics and economics and then qualified as a professional accountant… what was he doing? Shovelling fantasy money around tax havens from multimillion apartment in New York. The cheek of the man. The over privileged cheek of him.

Err.. Sunak read philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at Lincoln College, Oxford, and later gained an MBA from Stanford University in California as a Fulbright Scholar. He is better academically qualified than she is?

Honours are fairly even, academically, aren't they?

Would an MBA equate to Accountancy qualifications?

I believe accountancy qualifications are at first degree level, and are technical skills, I’m no expert though. Getting a Fulbright scholarship to do an MBA is a huge achievement, it’s very competitive. I actually think Sunak is a very bright man indeed, even though I share no political common ground with him.

It depends on the accountancy qualifications.

Someone can take a first degree, then train as an accountant, take higher level qualifications and then take all the tax examinstions. It can take several years and not many students accomplish this.

I just checked, apparently she was a management accountant, don’t know if that throws any more light.

Shame her persona and demeanour doesn't match her paper qualifications. She is very "me, me, me"

I’m relieved.
But not overjoyed by the two who are left.

maddyone Wed 20-Jul-22 19:05:48

She’s gone.

Given that they’re promising all sort of things, shouldn’t they just be promising to push forward the things that were in the manifesto that won them the election? Or am I missing something here?

For some reason I cannot rid myself of the conviction that Penny Mordaunt (she of the pet Burmese cat fame) is a reincarnation of Mrs. Slocum from 'Are you Being Served?'. Is it the hot weather or has anyone else had that thought?

Not that exactly, but I had been thinking that Liz Truss reminds me more of Maggie Simpson than she does of Maggie Thatcher.

How time flies, Mollie Sugden was so entertaining for 20 yrs, not much entertainment likely from Mordaunt.

karmalady Mon 18-Jul-22 14:58:31

homeopathy works like a key to a starter motor. You need a good practitioner who will take a very detailed case study and then prescribe the correct remedy, usually included in the cost of a consultation. Once the body starts to heal, then the remedy is stopped and a further consultation might be needed to see if a lower potency or different remedy is needed. It is a complex subject and needs at least 4 years of training to be a registered practioner

I use nothing else and am very well, no ailments and with plenty of good energy.

RedRidingHood Mon 18-Jul-22 13:43:45

I think Mordaunt is essentially not very bright and the homeopathy illustrates that. She says what she thinks will please people without thinking too hard about it.

grannygranby I like that assessment of Truss. I am moving away from my initial dislike of her. As you say, she doesn't have the X factor. Can a PM succeed without it? Succeed as in winning an election.

I'm not a member of the conservative party though I did vote for them once. I have moved to the centre from my left wing youth. I voted remain but I am no longer hung up on it and I fully understand why Liz Truss would want to move on and make the best of Brexit rathter than eternally looking backwards.

Caleo Mon 18-Jul-22 12:17:07

Homeopathic principle is superfically like active immunisation against infectious diseases. I say "superficially" because unlike the effect of active immunisation, the effect of homeopathic treatment lacks statistical corroboration.

Anniebach Mon 18-Jul-22 10:51:52

Make sure the homeopath is registered

Isn’t the Queen a fan of homeopathy? One of the two vets in my village uses homeopathic treatment on animals.

Yes, she is and I think the Queen Mother was too.

We probably saw someone who fancied herself as a psychotherapist rather than offering much in the way of practical therapy.

Katie59 Mon 18-Jul-22 06:07:09

The principle is the diluted substances that would have caused the symptoms cure the condition.

What seems to happen is that it switches your immune system on to effect a cure, it works on animals so it’s not placebo, its not possible to scientifically prove the medication so it doesn’t exist.

Very useful for the routine family conditions, aches, sprains, rashes, not serious illnesses.

varian Sun 17-Jul-22 20:16:26

Homeopathy is a "treatment" based on the use of highly diluted substances, which practitioners claim can cause the body to heal itself. A 2010 House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report on homeopathy said that homeopathic remedies perform no better than placebos (dummy treatments).

NHS website

The fact is that some people get better after taking placebos and some will get better after taking homeopathic treatments and some will get better without taking anything.
