First the PM avoided 5 significant Cobra meetings when COVID was gripping the nation. Now he has ‘missed’ the heatwave Cobra meeting. Who cares if a few more old people die - there was a party to plan!

What about the ‘bollard’ comment about Starmer? Straight out of his Spectator days, that. I really wish I was seeing the back of him but I’m afraid I won’t be….

Iam64 Wed 20-Jul-22 19:49:27

His arrogance/narcissism knows no bounds.

Call me old fashioned but, was anyone else cross when he repeated one of last week’s slurs to Starmer? He said whichever of the candidates became P’m ‘they’ll wipe the floor with you’.

I know, I’m Johnsonian terms it’s probably low end offensive but what a bullying, rude, offensive comment to make to anyone.
Johnson lies, he’s a bully, he’s lazy, thank goodness he might go ?

Well you'd think, but there does seem to be grassroots support for him for some reason.

The grass roots aren't the only people with a vote, though..

Did anyone notice that, in his latest ‘ my greatest hits’ speech today, that he said ‘we’ and immediately changed it to ‘I’? He still believes that he’s the greatest PM we’ve ever had.

DiamondLily Wed 20-Jul-22 15:56:19

Johnson was channelling Arnie Schwarzenegger, as the Terminator, in his "hasta la vista" comment, at his last PMQ..

So, I assume he's now "Johnson the Sperminator", and he'll be back, (but he can't afford any more child maintenance) lol ?

The only reason they’ve got rid of him is that they’ve realised he’s a vote loser. If they thought he was an asset when it comes to winning elections they would have been happy to ignore his transgression: and that includes the supposedly decent Conservatives. All their talk is of winning elections and tax cuts ( which are a tool for winning elections). No mention of the well being of the electorate).

Yes, I suspect so ?. I read somewhere that letters from party members have gone in asking for his return. I don't know if that's allowed under the Tory Party constitution, but if it's not, he's quite capable of getting the rules changed - it wouldn't be the first time he's changed the rules so they don't apply to him.

But they know he's a liability, surely? His rating by the general public is at rock bottom. The tories surely couldn't convince themselves that he's still an electoral asset?

Doesn’t Hastalavista imply that he’s going to be back…. sad

So. The worst PM in living memory who has been hounded out of office by his own party because of his lies and lack of integrity, left the house today being cheered and applauded by the very MP’s that had to get rid of him. They just wanted congratulatory sychofantic questions at his last PMQT and those MP’s (Geraint Davies, Kim Leadbeater) that pointed out his failings were met with a hostile reception from the government benches. Is it just me that can’t make sense of it?

There was plenty of criticism from the opposite benches though. Very different to Teresa May’s last PMQ where at least there was a level of respect. Let’s hope normal business resumes when they return in September, I’ve had enough of this ridiculous charade.

“Tells you everything you need to know about the degradation of the current Tory party that they remove the whip from an MP who did everything he could to try and save the life of a police officer and allow another, credibly accused of sexual assault, to keep it.”

Quite.

But the 'great British public' seem to accept this lack of integrity. According to the clamour on FB - many want Johnson to be re-instated and there's a move by some MPs to devise a way to get him re-instated by adding him to the list of prospective candidates.

He (Johnson) allegedly told one MP that it would take a 'flame thrower' to get him out of office. He is not going to go quietly - his ego won't allow it. In that respect he is like Trump who could not accept that his reign was over and accused the Democrats of 'stealing' the vote. Over here, those opposed to Johnson are now being accused of bullying him out of office.

I find this all quite alarming.

Sadiq Khan was on London TV asking people not to have BBQs in parks etc as the Fire Brigade have been impossibly stretched by several serious fires yesterday , including several homes burnt down. I suppose people will accuse him of nannying the population, but he came across as eminently sensible - he was appearing after being asked to by the London Fire Brigade. Yes this is an issue , it is a climate emergency which politicians should be taking seriously.

@Anniel

You won't hear anybody denouncing the SNP men who were thrown out of the Commons for disgraceful behaviour because they were not SNP men.

However, I'm happy to denounce the current Prime Minister thrown out of his job for persistent lying to Parliament and for being a convicted criminal. I'm very concerned however that it looks likely another convicted criminal will be put in charge of our country. Meanwhile we have Johnson fiddling while London burns........

Hello! How are you vq?

Volver you are always right! Well in this case it is you and yout lefty friends who
are deluded. Nobody needs the nanny state to tell them to keep
Out of the sun to stay hydrated and take extra care in hot weather. The nanny state is not required. There is a cabal of you on this board who are mainly interested in attacking Botis Johnson and anything Tory. A few grans dont need yout declarations. I never hear you denouncing the SNP men who were thrown out of the Commons for disgraceful behaviour. Nor of the problems Nicola Sturgeon has in Scotland. We will soon have s new PM and no doubt you will soon be telling us what an incompetent that PM is too. You, Maizie,Varian and WWM2 will soon be on the case. I cannot wait NOT!

Aw, thanks Annie1. Its nice to be appreciated. ?.

By the way, check out the party that the expelled MPs belong to. (Hint: not SNP). Maybe the nanny state is required to help you understand politics...

For all those dismissing the concerns about the heatwave I would remind you of 2003. That summer over 14,000 elderly people died from the heat in France according to the French National institute for Health. The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction estimated the number of heat related deaths in Europe at 72,000.

One of the underlying reasons for so many deaths is that the French and Italians for example (I don't know about the other countries) went on their hols leaving their elderly relatives at home, often alone. They weren't all living in care homes. The French were shocked at the number of deaths and since then have reminded the population to be aware of their elderly neighbours.

Apparently 2003 was the hottest summer on record since 1540 but no one was expecting such heat. It is for this reason there are regular reminders of how to deal with the heat.

I don't understand how if the Cobra meeting resulted in the DfE telling schools they've got to stay open, people are suggesting that at the other end of the scale more old people will die. The same importance should be attached to both so I'm assuming the country will cope with a few days of excessive heat. Everyone has been made aware.

The schools were asked to stay open to safeguard the welfare of the children. At last someone has realised the importance of this vital role schools play.

It is fine for the educated, healthy older people, a description, that probably applies to most GN members by default to be superior about the nanny state, but not everybody has our advantages.

Absolutely. How many on here work in foundries, or dig roads, or work on farms? I have sat all day with the doors open and a fan pointing at me, eating salad and ice cream with water literally on tap. I am thinking of going for a short walk in a minute as the sun has gone down a bit, but I can come and go as I please - lucky me.

Not everyone can do any of those things. It doesn't make them stupid, or in need of nannying - it's just that their circumstances are different.

Annie1 The fact that people are drowning and undoubtedly some will die of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, rather suggests that people do need to be reminded of how to deal with what are the highest temperatures ever recorded in this country and experienced by many people in urban areas, trapped in small flats designed to keep heat in, not let it out.

If you had read some of the stories of families, with members with respiratory problems. struggling to keep cool and well in small flats, where all the windows face south or are above busy city streets, you would understand they need all the help and advice they can get to try to keep cool and out of A&E.

It is fine for the educated, healthy older people, a description, that probably applies to most GN members by default to be superior about the nanny state, but not everybody has our advantages.

Oh well said MOnica.
