Whichever one wins, we are comprehensively f***ed.

I think it’s tragic that these two limited thinkers are the best the Tory party (which I’ve never admired, but could once respect) can find.

It's a pity that Chris Mason & Faisal Islam aren't our politicians

MayBee70 Mon 25-Jul-22 22:18:58

This is why Johnson thinks that he can stage a come back. I really do think that, like Trump, he isn’t planning to go away.

Daisymae Mon 25-Jul-22 22:17:57

Staggering that Sunaks response to the climate emergency questions was to take the lead from his daughters and recycle. Truss is going to stop the green levy. We're stuffed.

Urmstongran Mon 25-Jul-22 22:13:18

Anyone else get strong Muppet Show vibes from this debate?

Animal savages Miss Piggy whilst Stadler and Waldorf provide commentary from the sidelines.

??

Nanight all. I’m off to make a mug of Horlicks!

Liz Truss has no 'power' in her to be a leader of anything!

Luckygirl3 Mon 25-Jul-22 21:52:58

Can't bear either of them; Truss is pathetic and as for Rishi - he is the descendant of people who were welcomed into Britain after escaping an African dictatorship and now he endorses the plan that people fleeing similar conditions should be shipped out to Rwanda! Un-bloody-believable!

Iam64 Mon 25-Jul-22 21:49:52

Urmston, that made me lol !
Mr i is out at the pub quiz so me n the dogs are watching. Initially, I felt as you did, he’s doing the alpha male talking over the woman. Then I began to think - well he’s making sense and she’s waffling
He’s now had two lots of spontaneous applause. It’s scary that the Tory members seem to be seeing Truss as a possible PM. She’s no gravitas

Galaxy Mon 25-Jul-22 21:49:07

No it's not a good luck for Sunak but I think my manners might evaporate in the face of such inadequacy.

Doodledog Mon 25-Jul-22 21:48:36

I nearly didn't watch it, as I don't have a vote, but thought I'd tune in and see what they had to say. Now I just feel fearful for the next couple of years, and fervently hope we can muddle along until the next GE, and that whoever gets it can be curtailed by what's left of the checks and balances that have (so far) protected us from dictatorship.

If I had any sand, I'd stick my head in it until then, to be honest.

It’s grim isn’t it. Sunak is talking over Truss which isn’t a good look, he appears rude and ill-mannered.

. Having said that, Truss is hopeless. If she can’t stand up to him, how can she represent us internationally. She looks out of her depth in this debate, in the leadership contest. Sunak is enthusiastic, bright, seems well briefed and competent. She looks exhausted and anxious.

Heaven help us

He seems like a bully, belittling her, I am surprised.
Laughing and smirking like Johnson.

He can demolish her arguments easily without resorting to those tactics.

Urmstongran Mon 25-Jul-22 21:45:25

I just said to Himself “he’s very rude, doing that alpha male thing, interrupting her”

“With facts” was his reply. “You may not like it”.

Now ... why are they talking about clothes and earrings?? Give me strength.

Agreed but he would make a much better impression by allowing her to speak before jumping in.

Casdon Mon 25-Jul-22 21:31:25

She is answering very superficially, not demonstrating she understands what she’s being asked, or understands her own answers - it’s like a textbook being read out. He is quite rude interrupting her, but his sword is hitting home constantly.

MayBee70 Mon 25-Jul-22 21:30:15

Truss now talking again about her experience of being educated in Leeds. and how awful things were. Forgetting that there was a Conservative government at the time.

Urmstongran Mon 25-Jul-22 21:24:34

Sunak is tearing her apart by cutting in. Truss is being either too polite or she’s not robust enough. It’s a difficult tightrope though. I feel sorry for her.
