Well am not surprised.. Are you? Feel dismayed by the Cons and the awful skullduggery that has gone on..need a glass or 2..hmm

Deedaa Wed 20-Jul-22 17:19:38

The most I can say is that Rishi is more competent than Truss, but that really is all I can say. It's a very low benchmark.

CoolCoco Wed 20-Jul-22 17:25:21

Truss is a total robot, Im hoping she wins as shell be made mincemeat of by just about any interviewer. Did anyone see her on that select committee where she couldn't answer any of the questions about trading with authoritarian regimes.

Riverwalk Wed 20-Jul-22 17:26:30

Not very competent though - highest inflation in the G7 and highest taxes in 70 years.

sodapop Wed 20-Jul-22 17:26:50

Have to agree Deeda Truss can barely string a sentence together at times. It is indeed a low benchmark.

Casdon Wed 20-Jul-22 17:27:10

Oh no, I can tell by my reflection in Rishi’s eyes that I’ve over- plucked my eyebrows… (zoom in)

Riverwalk Wed 20-Jul-22 17:27:26

Sorry that was to Deedaa

LizzieDrip Wed 20-Jul-22 17:30:16

I think we can look forward to Prime Minister Truss, as dire as that sounds!

Agree Riverwalk. It sounds fantastic to me because with LT as PM, Labour is absolutely certain to win the next GE! So, she won’t be PM for too long.gringringrin

I've just had a look at a forum that is comprises a small number of posters, most of whom voted Leave and quite a few of whom actually have a vote. They are the remains of the Tories. This was quoted about Liz Truss a few days ago.

David Bannerman On Liz Truss today….

She has become a keen Brexiteer, as evidenced by support from Jacob Rees-Mogg, ERG Chairman Mark Francois and former party leader Iain Duncan Smith. She is the heavyweight Brexit team leader. Truss has the conviction of a convert, and has been best at delivering Brexit opportunities: a whole host of valuable trade deals the EU has failed to deliver on (I know as I sat on their trade committee for 10 years). She has come out fighting on the Protocol Bill too, which as a former special adviser on the Northern Ireland Peace Process I know to be vital. She will cut taxes, remove unnecessary red tape, create Thatcher-like enterprise zones, shake up obstructive Whitehall, lead on world affairs and deliver more Brexit opportunities as prime minister. I love the aspiration nation concept. That was the point of Brexit.

Sara1954 Wed 20-Jul-22 17:36:07

Well I didn’t really like any of the candidates, but if these two are the best we can do, I give up!
I’ve been disillusioned for years, and I can’t see much changing with either of these.
What a sorry state.

LizzieDrip Wed 20-Jul-22 17:36:22

Wow, that’s the first time I’ve heard LT described as ‘heavyweight’. I really, really, really hope she wins the final round and becomes the next PM. She’s an absolutely flaky. Bring it on!

DaisyAnne Wed 20-Jul-22 17:36:31

One of the other members - who is a Conservative member - did not agree with the above. At the beginning of the voting he had said:

Although I want to keep the role of PM for an ethnic Brit, I would vote for Patel if a Remainer was the other candidate.

RichmondPark1 Wed 20-Jul-22 17:39:16

She will cut taxes, remove unnecessary red tape, create Thatcher-like enterprise zones, shake up obstructive Whitehall, lead on world affairs and deliver more Brexit opportunities as prime minister.

Isn't that exactly what Johnson promised he would do but then didn't?

LizzieDrip Wed 20-Jul-22 17:39:31

^I’ve been disillusioned for years, and I can’t see much changing with either of these.

Agreed Sara1954 but, worry not, when Labour win the next GE you’ll see this country change for the better in many, many ways. So, there is light at the end of this 12 year tunnel!

DaisyAnne Wed 20-Jul-22 17:40:08

Another, on 17 July, said:

Alok Sharma (who ?) threatens to resign if the new leader ditches net zero pledge.
Full of his self importance who cares if he resigns ?. ???

These are your actual Tory voters folks. I think it's worth remembering what the Tories actually want not what job hunting MPs they tell you they want.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 20-Jul-22 17:40:13

Heaven help us all. This country is a disgrace if the best we can offer is these two, particularly the robot Truss. sad angry

Name and shame DaisyAnne, that is an appalling comment.

MayBee70 Wed 20-Jul-22 17:46:47

I read that Conservative party membership was made up of elderly men. But it was from a few years back. I assume it hasn’t changed.

LizzieDrip Wed 20-Jul-22 17:46:54

But they’re NOT the best this country can offer!!! We have a strong, committed, confident Labour Party ready to govern. Just give us a GE - let democracy happen and let the people decide!

LizzieDrip Wed 20-Jul-22 17:49:58

Although I want to keep the role of PM for an ethnic Brit, I would vote for Patel if a Remainer was the other candidate

Jeez!!! What an appalling comment - discriminatory on so many levels. So, these are the sort of people who will choose the next PM of this country?

I did. She was dire.

Galaxy Wed 20-Jul-22 17:54:56

If I remember rightly both the Tories and lib dems have a lower proportion of women, than say the labour party or greens. I thought average age was pretty similar across the parties but it was a while ago I looked at the figures.

Boz Wed 20-Jul-22 17:55:45

To win would be the 'poisoned chalice' Whoever it is handed to, Sunak or Truss, will be out at the next GE.

I think the Tory Membership will go for an Ethnic Brit. so cross your fingers Rishi and be thankful that you will not be the one to have to resign in the coming defeat in a GE

Whitewavemark2 Wed 20-Jul-22 17:57:12

Westminster Voting Intention:

Truss as Conservative Leader

LAB: 37% (+4)
CON: 25% (-20)
LDM: 16% (+4)
GRN: 9% (+6)

It's an older demographic, hard to be anything other than Conservative and Pro-Brexit forum. I don't think naming them would help but you are right, it was awful to be reminded, once again, that this is how enough people thought to push through some terrible decisions.
