I thought some of you (but probably not all of you) would enjoy this post from Mumsnet today, posted with no apparent irony:

Well I voted for ending freedom of movement to stop foreigners coming here and taking our jobs and living on benefits. I did not vote to make any changes for me going on holiday.

Wheniwasyourage Sat 23-Jul-22 09:10:56

Suddenly, vegansrock, there would be a huge number of remainers going on holiday!

It’s up to the French how many staff are employed at their side of the border. They have control of their borders ! It’s the Brits who wanted border checks now they are moaning cos there are border checks. Maybe there could be a queue for those who voted Brexit where they get all the checks and passport stamps and one for remainers where we could get waved through like the good old days.

What did you brexiteers think would happen? The French have taken control of their borders, just as you voted for, remember? Next thing you'll be telling us leftie remoaners that you believed what was written on the side of that bus! gringringrin. Nah, nobody is that gullible.....

All very predictable, but some called it Project Fear.

MaizieD Yes, I too thought the name was familiar, looked her up and some of her posts about Boris J in various threads are equally good.

All very predictable, all very French!

If you read on through the thread, it becomes apparent that @jgw1 who posted the quote that opens this thread is a master (mistress) of irony.

If it's the poster I think it is, she is very amusing and so close to the truth that her irony is all the more subtle. grin

What did the people who voted for Brexit think would happen when they visited an EU country? If they are stuck in the queue at Dover, serves them right. The others who voted to remain have my deepest sympathy.

Exactly. It certainly puts me off travelling in the EU.

Grammaretto Fri 22-Jul-22 19:32:27

Too late for recriminations. You have made your bed now lie in it! But I am mighty glad I'm not in that hot queue with wailing children and hot dogs

Urmstongran Fri 22-Jul-22 19:32:20

I’ve very much enjoyed visiting an EU country post Brexit. Not a problem in OR out with the optimum number of staff on duty.

We voted for a hard border with all its consequences, FOM was stopped. You can’t have it all ways. The French are not responsible to make the borders seamless.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Jul-22 19:03:34

Probably make a big difference if the French had turned up for work first thing this morning.

vegansrock Fri 22-Jul-22 18:58:20

It’s all the fault of the French obvs - they’re treating us like a non EU country !!!

Whitewavemark2 Fri 22-Jul-22 18:56:46

It is all the fault of the French apparently???

Urmstongran Fri 22-Jul-22 18:54:51

I’d be very surprised if any of us lent any credence to that post. Surely not?

The government was offered space for the lorries by Manston airport, but it was turned down.

Mamie Fri 22-Jul-22 18:06:29

I read the thread on Mumsnet and it was almost certainly a joke!
I liked
Roses are red
Passports are blue
Now get over there
And sit in the queue.

MaizieD Fri 22-Jul-22 17:28:47

It's not as though no-one warned them... grin

Brexit freedoms - freedom to queue for hours instead of driving straight through to the other 27 countries of the EU.

Now we know what it means to be a foreigner.

Luckygirl3 Fri 22-Jul-22 16:49:19

Weep .....

Smileless2012 Fri 22-Jul-22 16:46:35
