[Dr Hilary Cass] suggested introducing local hubs, writing that the current provider model "is not a safe or viable long-term option".
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62335665
Tavistock’s Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) clinic has been accused of rushing children into life-altering treatment on puberty blockers.
The paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, who is leading a review of the service, issued a series of recommendations today for a radical overhaul of how the NHS treats young people who are questioning their gender identity.
She found that the Tavistock clinic was “not a safe or viable long-term option” and that other mental health issues were “overshadowed” when gender was raised by children referred to the clinic.
Amid concerns that the clinic fails to take into account wider health problems before putting children on puberty blockers, Cass added: “Staff should maintain a broad clinical perspective in order to embed the care of children and young people with gender uncertainty within a broader child and adolescent health context.”
She found there was “a lack of agreement, and in many instances a lack of open discussion” about whether unhappiness with gender in adolescence was permanent or temporary.
This is the best of news for all those parents who's children have been channelled through this experiment factory.
So sensible. Hopefully an holistic approach, good data and record keeping will mean that young people will receive the best treatment possible rather than the lazy 'affirmation get them on puberty blockers' as soon as possible route too many have taken. Well done all those brave people who risked everything to expose the clinic's shortcomings.
I don’t know if this video has been posted before. And yes, Mermaids should definitely be the next horrific organisation to go. How this woman ever managed to persuade so many that what she was advocating was the right thing to do, I’ll never understand. I wonder what her child will think of her in future years?

I’ve just realised that Susie Green’s son is nearly 30 now, really didn’t realise how old s/he was until I saw it mentioned on Twitter. I hope s/he has a happy life, goodness knows s/he deserves it.
I've posted about this on another thread but it's relevant here too.
Did it occur to no-one to let the boy play with the toys he wanted and like the characters he wanted to, without fuss from adults?
(This is only a small extract. You can read the rest on the GirlGuiding Magazine website, linked below)
‘We often meet people who don’t understand how we, as parents, “could let our boy become a girl”', says Jane. ‘Did we want them to be a girl? Was it parental influence? Shouldn’t we have just told them to stop? Understandable questions. Perhaps the best way to explain it is walk you through our story.’
Jane and her husband Mike started noticing that Rainbow identified more with female characters, toys and books when she was 18 months old. ‘Some people suggested we just say no, encourage her to identify with the male characters, but how can you explain that to a young child? To what end? No to playing with toys she loved or characters she loved to pretend to be? It felt cruel to say no, to the say the least.’

Homophobic husband played a massive part in what happened to SG’s son. Much better to have a daughter than a gay son. I hope I never meet any of these people irl, I’d probably end up being arrested ?
Dr Cass wrote to NHS England in July 2022 setting out the key components of a new regional service model, as described in the Review’s interim report. The letter also provides advice on how gaps in the existing evidence base may be addressed.

Has Jackie Green ever said she has any regrets?
Not to my knowledge and I truly hope s/he doesn’t.
It’s the lives of hundreds/thousands of other children that SG, via Mermaids, has affected that concern me. How many of them have/had puberty blockers, gender reassignment surgery, and regret it? The number of de-transitioners is ever growing apparently, and they are becoming much more vocal in their outrage about what has happened to them. .
I don't have a clue how many have regretted it.
But the boy wasn't gay. It appears he felt that he was a girl - and that's what he now is, so the parents were right.
I think there are 30 000 on the detrans reddit, no say of measuring the reality of that. Long term follow up seems to have been absent for decades on this issue.
The report on what was happening at the Tavistock is devastating. I think it's also important to recognise the bravery of the detransitioners like Keira Bell who spoke out about what had happened to her. And a reminder that even the legal cases that fail have long lasting impact.
*growstuff’ Jackie Green is now pushing 30, and is not a girl, as human beings cannot change sex. S/he is a trans woman (Many GCs prefer the term TIM (trans identified male)). In the video, Jackie says “it’s in my DNA”, no it’s not and never will be, no matter what surgery or drugs s/he undergoes or takes.
But, we’ll never know if Jackie’s feelings would have changed as s/he aged, as s/he was put on puberty blockers at an early age and underwent surgery at 16.
I suspect that, in the not too distant future, there will be a significant number of claims brought against the NHS by some of the children who have been put on puberty blockers, at a very early age, and are reaping the repercussions years down the line. Keira Bell is just one of what could well be hundreds in the next few years.
Whilst I think it’s wonderful that the Tavistock is closing, I worry that the practitioners working there simply move on to either of the proposed new clinics and continue to believe and work exactly as they have been doing for so many years. I know that the clinics are going to be multi-disciplinary, but with so much of the NHS being under the thrall of Stonewall, I hope that safe-guarding procedures and policies are stringently observed.

Whether human beings can change sex is a matter of opinion. She prefers to be known as a female and I respect that, even if you don't.
How many people's lives have been improved (maybe even saved) by being able to transition? Do you have any data on that?
Keira Bell gave an interview on BBC World at One today. She was clear, factual and eloquent about her experiences at the Tavistock and what led her to helping to create change. It's about 30 minutes or so into the programme. Worth a listen.

Maybe I will. I've also listened to the two young people I personally know, who were born as boys and have now transitioned and are very happy. So that's 1-2.
How many people's lives have been improved (maybe even saved) by being able to transition? Do you have any data on that?
I have no stats or data for you growstuff and neither, apparently have the Tavistock; hence today's ruling. The full enormity of that won't be known until the Cass report is published it's expected to be demning on not just their lack on data keeping.
For those who have benefited, that's great news and they've been "the lucky ones". But as today's report has revealed, there are too many children who's lives haven't been improved, or saved, by what's been happening at the Tavistock. Their stories will be heard shortly.
growstuff If you don’t believe me when I say human beings cannot change sex, would you believe Baron Robert Winston? Or is he not eminent enough as a scientist for you?

Thanks Chewbacca I was just about to say there are no numbers due to the shoddy practice at the Tavistock.

I don't know if you mean Jackie Green or Rainbow, who is being publicised by GirlGuiding.
Of course they're not girls.
