What do the Welsh grans or anyone else think about Liz Truss's comment that Mark Drayford Leader of the Welsh Labour party is a low-energy version of Jeremy Corbyn?
I think she is a dangerous woman not because of her intelligence and leadership skills but because she opens her mouth without thinking.
What could she stir up with the Chinese over Taiwan another Korea costing thousands of lives?

Love it! He’s absolutely right too.

Whoever next leads the government we are well down the route to becoming the North Korea of Western Europe, proudly cutting ourselves off from the rest of the world, while falling further and further behind other countries in economic growth, education and health care. As our blinkered and ignorant leaders pride themselves on thinking up more and more rightwing policies whose implementation can only make things worse.

That one of them is a brainless nitwit, she will be following in a grand procession. Cameron, then May, then Johnson, and now Truss/ Sunak, all as bad as each other.

Fleurpepper Thu 04-Aug-22 19:00:07

Whatever anyone thinks of NS or MD- is irrelevant here. They are elected Heads of their respective countries, which are in partnership with England - and such comments are ill advised and totally wrong.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 04-Aug-22 18:17:35

Well I am afraid for this country. Afraid because those same Tories who voted for Johnson will have the power to give us Truss as our PM. As for those MPs who have eventually got around to supporting her, their transparent self seeking is appalling. Just when we want and need truth and integrity we once again are offered fantasy.

LadyGracie

I’m uninspired by Mark Drakeford, there’s no spark there at all. As the saying goes ‘he could talk a glass eye to sleep’.

Look where those with a bit of spark have got us.

That’s got nothing to do with it though LadyGracie, has it? Unnecessary (and untrue in this case because Drakeford bears no resemblance to Corbyn) insults about the leaders of other nations won’t help her cause in any way, they make her look like a cornered 10 year old in the playground.

AGAA4 Thu 04-Aug-22 15:51:04

As a would-be PM she seems to be stirring people up with her comments. Coming from the inept Liz Truss her insults are laughable.

A pen maip if you are vegetarian

Welsh animal this time MaizieD, equally appropriate though.

MaizieD Thu 04-Aug-22 14:42:29

Truss on the other hand is a buwch dwp.

Another Welsh vegetable, Casdon? grin

Casdon Thu 04-Aug-22 14:39:23

Mark Drakeford is a decent, principled man who cares about Wales, not himself, and knows how to behave professionally.

Truss on the other hand is a buwch dwp. If she had a brain she’d be dangerous.

Callistemon21 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:35:48

She is totally out of order speaking of the leaders of two of the devolved nations of the United Kingdom like that.

Mark Drakeford didn't have much respect for Boris Johnson but was only caught once when he thought he was off-camera making a disparaging remark about him.

At first I thought Drakeford was like a kindly headmaster and might be rather ineffectual but he is actually calm and measured and I can't imagine him having a knees-up in the Senedd either.

fairfraise Thu 04-Aug-22 12:34:00

Many in Wales share her opinion of Mark Drakeford, but as a senior politician she should keep her opinion private.

MayBee70 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:30:35

Throughout the pandemic we listened to Sturgeon each day because she spoke so much sense and unlike Johnson we could actually understand what she was saying. And I have no recollection of Sturgeon or Drakeford dressing up in silly costumes and having photoshoots on a regular ( or in the case of Johnson, daily) basis. Isn’t that attention seeking? Or am I missing something here?

Pantglas2 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:28:02

He wasn’t even consistent in his nannying either! When South Wales had high infection rates the whole country was restricted but when north Wales later had high incidence he shut those counties alone down!

Little wonder he doesn’t want a separate inquiry of his performance, preferring to stay under UK umbrella so that he can blame Boris for everything!

eazybee Thu 04-Aug-22 11:48:59

I seem to remember posters on here referring to him as Nanny Drakeford during covid.

vampirequeen Thu 04-Aug-22 10:41:00

I didn't think we could get a worse PM than Boris Johnson but I fear that we will if Liz Truss gets the job. But it appears she reminds people of Thatcher and, it seems that to many Party members, that's a good thing. Funny how I remember the Thatcher years as a nightmare but the nostalgic rose tinted spectacles that some people wear are a wonderful thing.

Yammy Thu 04-Aug-22 10:30:22

I have to agree with you all. A relation lives in Wales and says he is very measured and has managed Covid very well.
I just wonder if the Tory party are using the old American adage W.A.S.P. White Anglo Saxon Protestant. I personally think of the two I would prefer Sunak and he would be a representative of our Ethnic minorities which we badly need.
When was the last time we had an ethnic minority P.M. Disraeli?

Wheniwasyourage Thu 04-Aug-22 10:18:11

It's just childish rudeness, IMO, and while it may get cheers from her misguided supporters, it does her no favours with most of the electorate, whatever their politial opinions.

Oldbat1 Thu 04-Aug-22 10:13:37

Never liked LT but she is proving she isn’t fit for the job she is trying to secure. No doubt the lemmings will vote for her rather than RS. I don’t think either of them will be up to much but time will tell.

Pantglas2 Thu 04-Aug-22 10:12:44

Perhaps I wasn’t clear…all leaders roles deserve respect from other leaders.

Doesn’t matter whether you agree with their politics or not - snide personal comments/opinions from Ministers aren’t clever, they simply diminish the person making them in my eyes.

Ilovecheese Thu 04-Aug-22 10:05:44

She hasn't got the role yet, she really doesn't deserve any respect.
