I had no idea about most of this.

Willie Hamilton ?

It just goes to show, most people do not understand how this establishment works and even Prime Ministers don't care

Lucca Tue 06-Sept-22 22:45:16

I meant what has duchess of Cambridge git t9 do with it…oh never mind.

Anniebach Tue 06-Sept-22 19:37:51

A politician giving his opinion on the same person as Soames
did

Lucca Tue 06-Sept-22 18:43:46

What’s that got to do with Blair referring to her as the peoples princess ?

Anniebach Tue 06-Sept-22 09:57:25

Yes Diana princess of Wales but not a princess, no difference to
duchess of Cambridge

Sorry can’t agree Iam I didn’t like what he said but MP’s like
us all have a right to express their opinions . I didn’t agree with
Blair calling Diana ‘the people’s princess’ she wasn’t a princess.

The crowds laying flowers criticising the Queen staying in Balmoral,

Was she not Diana princess of wales ?

And in any case people use those terms metaphorically, eg he is a Prince among men.

Anniebach Tue 06-Sept-22 09:24:28

Friends are usually biased

lemsip Tue 06-Sept-22 09:18:39

Soames was speaking as charles long term friend so biased!

Exactly Iam64.

Iam64 Mon 05-Sept-22 20:43:41

Oh lord, Soames not Siamese. Predictive text and an I phone. Sorry

Iam64 Mon 05-Sept-22 18:25:30

The point is that Siamese said some extremely unpleasant, offensive and unnecessary things about Diana. It was well reported at the time. He was an influential MP. He ought to have been more careful and shown a little respect a young woman who anyone could see was struggling. He should have known better. He apologised later for some of his comments

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-22 15:19:03

He said it in public and he is an MP, he was not speaking for
his party , should MP’s not speak of things a member of the
public does ?

When Diana died M.P’s who expressed sorrow have remained silent ?

Vintagejazz Mon 05-Sept-22 14:54:05

He said it in public and as a politician.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-22 14:31:20

He didn’t say it in Parliament, a MP has the right to voice their
opinion , Diana wasn’t there representing the U.K.

Vintagejazz Mon 05-Sept-22 13:18:17

I meant somebody,in an official capacity eg politician calling her a loose cannon.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-22 11:08:41

What was her official capacity?

Vintagejazz Mon 05-Sept-22 11:03:14

Obviously calling her a loose cannon publicly and in an official capacity was wrong. But I have no doubt many people thought so privately.

lemsip Mon 05-Sept-22 09:17:02

Diana was called a 'loose cannon' by charles friend nicholas soames who later apologised. It was over the land mine visit.

Princess Diana angered government ministers after calling for an international ban on landmines.

Her comments - made during a visit to Angola to see for herself some of the victims of landmines - were seen as being out of step with government policy.

The Junior Defence Minister, Earl Howe, described the princess as a "loose cannon", although he sought to distance himself from the criticism.

This BBC News report was first broadcast on 15 January 1997.

I think Diana was a loose cannon.
Her fling with Dodi was obviously nothing serious, just an ill advised summer dalliance. I doubt the royal Family saw it as any more than that. It did demonstrate however, that she was becoming more and more careless and erratic in her behaviour and her death certainly came at a very convenient time.

However I absolutely cannot imagine Charles, the Queen or Prince Philip plotting or being acquiescent in any such thing.

I thought Diana had to fund her own security once she lost the title HRH.

But they weren’t her security team, i.e. royal security, as she had ditched it.

They were Fayed’s, Dodi and his dad’s.

Because Bashir told her the royals wanted her dead and she fell for it. This was after the divorce and settlement was made so clearly no real reason at all but I guess she panicked and looked for wealthy men with security.

The vehicle was in very poor condition and very dangerous.

People are looking at it through today’s eyes with far more health and safety rules than there used to be.

Diana ditched her security in '93. because she thought they were reporting to Charles, the Bashir interview was '95. I know he did awful things but he can't be blamed for absolutely everything.

I am not medically qualified but I was told of my daughter’s
diagnosis and she was an adult and married

Iam64 Sun 04-Sept-22 15:51:36

So far as I’m aware, PW isn’t medically qualified. As MissA said, ‘paranoid’ is used loosely in every day speech.
