I think it depends on who else is in government/the cabinet, who he chooses as advisers, and (as with every government), how big their majority is.
I think he’s fundamentally a bureaucrat, with quite limited ideas. I think he can be trusted to deliver a Labour manifesto competently, but my fear is that he would run a government of narrow thinking, with neither the mindset nor the majority to be transformative.
I think he would be a better PM than leader of the opposition.
He is considered and thoughtful, so wouldn't be as reactive as Johnson has been, and he seems fundamentally decent, so would be trustworthy, which would be a welcome change.
I am a Labour supporter, so that will be colouring my thinking, but I think that he's be good, as we need stability and caution in these dangerous times.
I’m looking forward to Andy Burnham’s return one day. Starmer would make a decent PM in the meantime. I honestly can’t see this bunch of Tories lasting much longer. Twelve years, yes TWELVE years they’ve had in government and what have they achieved? Very little. The Brexit disaster, a crumbling NHS, a badly organised reaction to the pandemic - I could go on. There’s a Boris special HIGNFY this evening, so I’m looking forward to that.
I think he would be a good PM, but as a leader of the opposition he seems too fearful of the minority of Labour voters who backed brexit.
I will watch the next LP conference with great interest, hoping that the LP changes its policy and supports a change to PR. Starmer has not given a good lead on that fundamental issue.
Is he a democrat?
Does he support the idea that no party should govern without the backing of the majority of voters or does he want the UK to continue to be the only sham democracy in Europe apart from Belarus, using the undemocratic FPTP to elect a government like the one elected by a minority of votes in 2019 which has done such harm to our country?
If our PM is boring, but a man of integrity, trustworthy, a hard worker and has the country at the heart of his policies, than I’m more than willing to settle for boring.
Would be interesting to see if he is as good as he thinks he is. Much harder actually having to be in power than sit on the sidelines. Not sure he is held in such high regard by the far left probably a bit to close to being a red Tory We may find out one day I personally cannot warm to the man and would much prefer Andy Burnham. I have no proof to back my feelings but I think he’s all talk and no substance a people pleaser with limited public appeal

Rosie59 can you explain what you mean by if he is as good as he thinks he is? I’ve never had the impression that he’s a boastful person who’s full of himself?
I think he’s just a serious minded person, I don’t think he comes over as thinking he’s wonderful, he has a sense of humour, but he doesn’t joke about serious issues. Unlike some.
I don't think he (Keir) is a people pleaser - if he were, he wouldn't be seen as boring by so many. I wish he'd been a bit bolder in opposition, but so many people harp on about Jeremy Corbyn that he had to show that he is different. It's not fair, but he can't do anything unless he's in power, and a lot of people won't give him a chance because of their perception of someone else.
I think he would be very statesmanlike which would be a nice change. I think May had that quality, but she was also just (whisper) "a bit dull" Is there not a happy medium?
