Just that. I can only imagine that, if Truss carries out her promises to give tax cuts to the rich and ignore those struggling, the Labour party's lead would increase.

If she has been saying this to gain power, and we have another liar in office, I don't know how usually Tory voters will react. They seem to accept the most outrageous of lies so they may stick with her. There still seems to be a tranche of Trumpian style supporters sticking to Johnson; they may transfer allegiance (and all common sense) to Truss.

You can see the chart here

I am a Labour voter and hope the next Labour government will be a good one ( although I accept that it may not be, we shall not know until the event.)
I cannot agree with your assertion DaisyAnne about Tory voters 'they seem to accept the most outrageous of lies so they may stick with her'. There are millions of Tory voters and you cannot say this about them. Many have already been turned off by the many lies by Mr Johnson.

We're in a Labour stronghold. I usually vote LD but realistically they don't stand an earthly.

Is the sausage roll a Greggs? Or is it one of those oven ready ones, don’t want to go there again.

SNP .The only party in Scotland that doesn't dance to Westminsters tune .

Yes, I believe so too.

We are fortunate to have Mohammed Yasin who is a good, active MP - and that has always been my main concern when choosing where to put my cross.
It just so happens that he is Labour, which suits me too!

Soozikinzi Sat 03-Sept-22 13:26:01

Labour . Lisa Nandy is our M.P. and I like her .

Mollygo Sat 03-Sept-22 13:20:41

Probably Lib-Dem as they have the best chance of getting in round here.
Lathyrus, your comment
That’s what I mean about too internally focused. Solid Labour supporters might know and believe they are great policies. But Labour already has those votes. It’s the other votes like mine they need. is true.

In this climate of distrust of all politicians, we need a forceful candidate with policies that will reassure people.
Politics is discussed in my hairdressers on a regular basis, (because you don’t argue with someone who’s got scissors next to your ears!) .
The general consensus today seemed to be, No to Liz Truss and we need to get rid of Tories. But not to expect any other government to fulfil their manifesto promises because they will use the age old excuse of ‘can’t do it because of the mess left by the previous government’.
Kier Starmer doesn’t fill them with confidence.

In our conservative area will have to be tactical vote for Libdem but really keeping fingers crossed for Labour. Our con MP is only interested in those with big money.

Ilovecheese Sat 03-Sept-22 12:34:08

The Conservatives would never be elected in my constituency but the Libdems have been not so very long ago. I would have to have a look if Ed Davey is more left wing than Starmer and maybe give my vote to the Libdems. It would be very hard though, having always voted Labour in the past.

cangran Sat 03-Sept-22 12:11:20

Labour - we have a very good Labour MP but it's marginal and I definitely don't want the Tory back!

Gillycats Sat 03-Sept-22 12:09:42

I have no idea. My Lib Dem MP is useless generally. She ousted the Tory MP (it was a ‘safe’ seat previously. We are disgruntled Labour voters and definitely won’t vote for them until they sort themselves out. I think Kier is having a crack at finding his backbone so there may be hope by the next election. So it will be a tactical vote probably, maybe an independent. I honestly don’t see any party as fit to run this country based on current policies and previous disgraceful behaviour. It’s inherent in all of them. Perhaps we should form a GN party, now that would make an interesting government ?

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 03-Sept-22 12:06:52

The pastry choices are doing worryingly well. The new PM - take note.

LizzieDrip Sat 03-Sept-22 12:06:34

Labour without a doubt!

My Labour MP has always had a majority of 20,000+ and rarely bothers to tell us he is standing for a GE because he knows he will romp home.

I have never not voted but also it has never been for Labour so like the last time I think I also voted for somebody obscure.

Oldbat1 Sat 03-Sept-22 11:47:51

Any party except the Tory party. They are only out to feather their own nests. My opinion to which I am entitled.

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 11:34:36

Labour
Sad that Mrs Beckett isn’t our MP anymore.

Grantanow Sat 03-Sept-22 11:33:05

I live where Labour has no hope so to get the Tories out the obvious choice is Lib Dem but their history of ratting on their voters by going into coalition with the Cameron Tories makes me very wary.

Witzend Sat 03-Sept-22 11:04:55

Our constituency is always a toss up between Tory and LD, Labour come pretty much nowhere, so it’ll almost certainly be LD - though TBH I’m not too enchanted with them either, because of their stance on the ‘woman’ issue.

I’d never not vote, but once, many years ago, I was so disenchanted with the lot of them, that I voted for the Monster Raving Loony candidate.

Lathyrus Sat 03-Sept-22 11:03:07

Oh dear. I crossed threads there. It wasn’t intentional ?

DaisyAnne Sat 03-Sept-22 11:03:05

'Grr' a correction to my previous post, not a comment on Lathyrus's post.

BlueBelle Sat 03-Sept-22 11:01:55

I wouldn’t vote Tory if my life depended on it but my ‘deprived area’ is a Tory stronghold work that one out !!!
We had a brilliant Labour mp until he retired and it s been Tory Tory ever since
The last ones been in for ever and has done absolutely nothing for the area and on looking at his voting history he’s voted against everything I believe in and for everything I abhor
I would LOVE to see the back of him

DaisyAnne Sat 03-Sept-22 11:00:32

Grr smile

I agree Lathyrus they clearly need to spread the message far and wide that they have policies which will benefit the population at large.

They will spread the message. There were other things to do after the last disastrous election. Remember most people are not as interested in politics as those on these threads.

I will be very interested to see how KS deals with Truss in PMQs.

What other things. Genuine question.

Because Labour has seemed almost nonexistent in the last three years, to me. Internal stuff?

I would like any government that could act for the common good and make rational, considered decisions.

If that’s Labour it’s not coming over to ordinary people who just want a good ordinary life.

Gloriany doesn’t even think we exist?

DaisyAnne Sat 03-Sept-22 11:00:08

I voted for labour under Tony Blair. Since the demise of Blair and Brown I have reverted to voting Conservative and expect to do so again as things currently stand, but we don’t yet know what any of the parties’ manifestos will look like, nor which personalities would be likely to form another government.

Your last sentence is true. I predicted five years of unusual impact on people's lives from the beginning of Covid in early 2020. What I didn't imagine was that it would morph into a war in Ukraine and the energy issues. We have two and a half years to go of what the "standard cycle" of five years seems, to me, to be. Who knows what will happen in that time?

However, the OP was "If there were a General Election tomorrow ... " That is probably the best we can do at the moment(smile)
