It sounds worrying, doesn’t it?

karmalady Thu 08-Sept-22 14:57:01

silverlining48, I was also 5 at my coronation street party, will never forget it and remember wandering away and some kind person took me back to my street. An amazing woman, an amazing monarch and a wonderful smile.

Lexisgranny Thu 08-Sept-22 14:56:59

Jaberwok. I was just short of my ninth birthday and I remember going out of school at break time and someone pointing to the flag on the local church which was going down to half mast. None of us knew what it meant, but straight away we were called in and told what had happened

snowberryZ Thu 08-Sept-22 14:55:20

Got goosebumps when I turned the TV on earlier.
Very sad news to hear she's unwell

Peartree Thu 08-Sept-22 14:53:00

I too have only known the Queen as the monarch. I still believe that since Prince Phillip has gone she has not been the same.

rafichagran Thu 08-Sept-22 14:50:42

Very sad, I am watching the news, I think she has been a amazing monarch.

Jaberwok Thu 08-Sept-22 14:39:51

She didn't HAVE to meet up with Boris and Liz Truss on Tuesday, apparently she insisted. I fear that this will have been her last duty as today doesn't sound good at all. I remember when George V1th died in 1952, I was 9 and we all cried. I think I shall certainly be crying again. As Annie says, the nation is being prepared.sad

Namsnanny Thu 08-Sept-22 14:35:46

Definitely very sad.
I've been dreading (and no I'm not being overly dramatic) this news.
It reminds me of the emotions and fall out in my own family.
Makes me shudder at the ramifications for her family members in the near future.
I sincerely hope there arnt any.

Smileless2012 Thu 08-Sept-22 14:29:08

I don't why but it's hard to comprehend isn't it and so very very sadsad.

silverlining48 Thu 08-Sept-22 14:26:06

I ( sort of) remember the coronation. I was 5. . I ran in a race in the street and there was a party in the hall as it rained. I got a littke silver spoon.
A long time ago.
Yes Iam, not many had a tv then, we certainly didnt.

Daddima Thu 08-Sept-22 14:25:18

I suspect she died a few hours ago, and they will release the news when they feel it is appropriate.

Iam64 Thu 08-Sept-22 14:19:30

I’m feeling quite tearful. One of my earliest memories is gathering at grannie’s to watch the coronation on her tv. She was the only family member to have this exciting box in the corner. Her Majesty dedicated her life to her role.
The whole family is gathering so something very significant and serious has or is happening

Yes Fanny C, this thread isn’t one where unpleasant comments will be welcome

Sandie51 Thu 08-Sept-22 14:19:10

Let's hope she goes peacefully surrounded by close family and in the palace she loves so much.

SunshineSally Thu 08-Sept-22 14:16:58

I feel so desperately sad and quite tearful.

The end of an era …

Vintagenonna Thu 08-Sept-22 14:14:17

If it is to be then perhaps this is comfort :

"Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee."

silverlining48 Thu 08-Sept-22 14:11:08

It does seem serious; strange too as few of us living have known any other monarch.
The photo on Tuesday is lovely. She looked very happy and if
this is the end she is a lucky woman not to have to suffer for months or years in so much pain as so many others suffer, but she like everyone has also had her fair share of problems.
Not a monarchist but feel a little sad.

Georgesgran Thu 08-Sept-22 14:10:45

Apparently all 4 children are there.

Dinahmo Thu 08-Sept-22 14:07:39

I can remember seeing the funeral of her father and then her coronation on tv. Like many others I'm feeling very sad right now.

Grayling Thu 08-Sept-22 14:07:29

Princess Anne is already there. She does carry out a lot of duties in Scotland and maybe did not have to travel so far.

NanKate Thu 08-Sept-22 14:06:57

What a woman still carrying out her duties on Tuesday.

I feel so very sad ?

Callistemon21 Thu 08-Sept-22 14:03:44

I noticed the bruising on the back of her hand
That can happen if someone is on blood thinning medication.

Oh dear, I feel anxious but I fear the worst.
She has been a steadfast, constant source of stability throughout some turbulent times.

Thoughts and prayers with her family.

crazyH

Yes I just heard that the Sussexes are on their way to Balmoral

Yes, on BBC news a couple of minutes ago

crazyH Thu 08-Sept-22 14:01:46

Yes I just heard that the Sussexes are on their way to Balmoral

FannyCornforth Thu 08-Sept-22 14:00:02

It would be respectful if we didn’t fall out on this thread

MawtheMerrier Thu 08-Sept-22 13:58:24

Have you ever sat at the bedside of a dying loved one- partner, parent, child?
We were lucky to have 24 hours with Paw when I could gather our daughters and sons in law and his sisters, on the advice of doctors “Anybody who needs to be here should come now”. To this day I (silently) reproach his brother for not coming. Paw would not have been bothered and I wish he had know that those whom he loved and who loved him best were by his side.
I know the media are making a meal of it - that is their way- but there are also millions who perhaps like me are taking a respectful but genuinely affectionate interest in her health. When does care morph into intrusion? It depends on your point of view I suppose.
It has just been suggested that the Sussexes are on their way too.

25Avalon Thu 08-Sept-22 13:57:52

All of the family are gathering at Balmoral so I think we must be prepared for the worst. Never bothered about if before but now I feel quite sad. She will be reunited with Philip her rock.
