I’m starting a thread so we can add our thoughts and hopes for the future. The King will address the nation at midday.

He and Camilla have my support although I know not everyone feels that way.

God Save the King.

Varian why do millions search for their"roots" if it doesn't matter ? Of course it does ,we all want somewhere we belong .
That doesn't make anyone racist .
Scottish by birth or just by living, working and contributing to the country makes no difference at all in the daily life of people here .It 's just good to know where your family originated .
If you dont think that why have you researched your family ancestry .?
It certainly makes a difference if you want to play a sport for your country of choice ,if you cant claim at least a GP you've no chance .Maybe you should petition the sports bodies and tell THEM they're racist ?
For most of my life I believed I was of only Irish extraction ,born in Scotland I am the most vocal supporter of Scottish Independence and have been since I was 13 ,When I did my family tree I found I had family on my fathers side right back to the early 1700's right up the west coat and Islands of Scotland ! Jacobites!
It may or may not explain my love of Scotland,my OH always believed he was Scots 100% but loved Ireland and in his 50's discovered he had many Irish ancestors which he thinks explains his feeling of "going home" every time we visited there over the 35 years before he knew about his roots .Its not racist in any way

tickingbird incorrigible, yes I like that and do agree.
I think that volver and Lucca are supporters of the Sussex's, there really are not many on this forum and I do wonder if that is because they are Scottish and support leaving the Union? I cannot see any other reason for supporting Harry and Meghan after their behaviour and words towards the royal family. They have certainly lost support within the UK.

I agree that supporters of Harry and Meghan who post here are far outnumbered by those who seem to be poised, waiting for any opportunity to criticise them.
I may be wrong but my impression is that /Lucca and volver aren’t necessarily ‘supporters of the Sussex’s’ more, thst they have a sense of fairness and the ability to see more than one, rather unpleasant, simplistic view of H and M.
I’m in that camp. I find it curious that so much anger and criticism is thrown at these two.
Estrangement is never simple. Occasionally, there are reasons most of us can understand. More usually, complex histories abd relationships contribute.
The idea that being a Scottish nationalist could be the reason for ‘supporting’ them boggles my brain
My dna is much more scattered than volver. I do have Scottish in there. If I lived in Scotland I’d want independence. I’m in England and would be sad to see the end of the union

????
Thank you I am 64

Prentice i think that volver and Lucca are supporters of the Sussex's

Every H and M contains a comment from me saying I am not a fan/supporter of the Sussexes I just don’t like the very repetitive and unpleasant comments about them over every detail including wearing tights and holding hands

i do wonder if that is because they are Scottish and support leaving the Union?

Sorry to have to reject that little theory… I am not Scottish. I am English with possibly a bit of Welsh So where did you get piece of nonsense from Prentice??

I don’t blame him for being tetchy. For the second time he had a problem with pens and ink because of lack of attention to detail from whoever was setting up the signing. Not good enough.

It was in front of the world’s cameras and he’d quite simply had enough!

Just seen this - must be a big blow to all the staff. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/13/king-charles-staff-given-redundancy-notice-during-church-service-for-queen?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

I wonder if this is principally staff working for the Duchy of Cornwall or Prince of Wales estate, so clearing the way for William to reappoint as he chooses?

Prentice Tue 13-Sept-22 21:00:04

It is interesting that few want to cut King Charles some slack yet have so much sympathy for young and healthy and job-free Prince Harry of California as my daughter calls him.
The King has much on his plate to deal with and his Mother has just died.

How could he vent frustration, he is only grieving for his mother and having to adjust to being king, so wrong of him
Thank heaven he didn’t sneeze

I know Annie when Mum died my sister and I barely functioned for weeks.

We knew it was coming, but nothing prepares you for the physical and mental onslaught of emotions when a loved one dies.

The important word is could

Many want a slimmed down monarchy, which by definition means less staff.

BELFAST, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Britain's King Charles vented his frustration at a leaky pen on Tuesday during a signing ceremony in Northern Ireland, the second time in recent days he has shown visible irritation during such proceedings.

I have seen the clip, the King is on his metaphorical knees, he didn’t know the date, the pen malfunctioned.

He and the senior Royals have been on the go since the Queen died, no time to mourn in private.

They have just been remarkable in their duties and so respectful regarding their mother.

I do hope that after the funeral they can pull up the drawbridge and mourn in peace.

Our families are of different nationalities, we're definitely mongrels. Or bitzers as they say in Australia.

DaisyAnne Tue 13-Sept-22 19:00:47

volver

^Perhaps you should think about what you are saying Vover What you are suggesting about division of identity by presumed ethnicity is insulting.^

At the risk of repeating myself ad nauseam DaisyAnne, I don't know what it is you are reading but its not what I post.

We're on a bit of a slippery slope when you start accusing people of things you imagine they mean, rather than what they actually mean.

Next we'll be arresting people for carrying blank pieces of paper.

And its Volver.

You seem to find Volver that you need to use this little boilerplate saying quite often. I have noticed it is not only used for me. It might be worth checking. Although you seem to think you are the only one in step and everyone else is out of step, it may be the other way around. Your constant use of the phrase would suggest that.

Zoejory Tue 13-Sept-22 18:56:55

Wow.

Well, I'm Scottish, however I don't feel particularly Scottish. Grown up in England to Scottish parents who weren't particularly patriotic either.

This comment of mine is quite pointless.

Just thought I'd join in

How much does it matter?

Not a jot, varian
We're mongrels too!

I suppose it matters if someone wants to play rugby for Wales, for example.
Someone I know was asked by her DH not to venture over the border in the latter stages of pregnancy because he hoped his son would one day play rugby for Wales ???????
Born in Wales, doesn't play rugby, lives in America. ?

Yes, GrannyGravy, it has become unpleasant and sniping. Many threads do now - I begin to feel I've had enough and don't enjoy GN as much as I did.
