I’m starting a thread so we can add our thoughts and hopes for the future. The King will address the nation at midday.

He and Camilla have my support although I know not everyone feels that way.

God Save the King.

Let’s hope Harry and Megan heard what the King said

That he loves them? I’m sure they did.

Lovely speech by Charles.

I especially loved how he talked of both of his sons. Not just the one in line for the throne.

I VERY much enjoyed how he side stepped the “defender of the faith” issue.

I’m trying to type through tears. Well done, Charles!

I’m going to read the thread but, having just watched The King I want to say, God save the King. Great speech .
I hope the people who’ve been unable to stop themselves criticising Harry and Megan heard what the King said.

What a heartfelt speech from our new King. A moving tribute to his mother, recognition of his wife and sons, tactfully mentioning Harry and Meghan.

Long may he reign

Yes it was Fleurpepper, just right.

Katek Fri 09-Sept-22 18:10:48

Remove the monarchy and who would be our current head of state? President Truss? I think I’ll stick with the monarchy thank you very much!!

Lovely heartfelt speech by Charles.

He's giving a very moving address to the nation. I wish him well.

Fleurpepper Fri 09-Sept-22 18:09:30

Wonderful and moving speech by Charles.

William and Katherine Prince and Princess of Wales

Charles is no spring chicken, but he can give Joe Biden a few years.

I agree Grannynannywanny. Some of them were concentrating so hard on their phones that they couldn't see him. It is rude and disrespectful. I'm surprised nobody asked for a selfie (or perhaps they did).

Bea65 Fri 09-Sept-22 17:28:25

Hmm not a fan of either.. it’s too soon for celebrating a King and believe we need to modernise the Monarchy .. We can’t afford them all..

fairfraise Fri 09-Sept-22 16:48:19

I am quite sure that the new King and Queen Consort will do a good job.

Grannynannywanny Fri 09-Sept-22 16:46:47

I’ve just watched footage of Charles walking around shaking hands with people outside Buckingham Palace. . Good grief what’s wrong with these people with phones shoved in his face? So rude and disrespectful. Does everything have to be a photo opportunity?

fairfraise Fri 09-Sept-22 16:45:00

HousePlantQueen FPTP has in fact given us a Tory government with a substantial majority, not a minority government.

Callistemon21 Fri 09-Sept-22 16:37:43

I hope they haven’t unpacked. ?

Well, the children have started school.

Good post, Bluebelle.

I'm a monarchist but a pragmatic one because I like having a Constitutional Monarchy and the stability and structure it provides.

I think you're right, they will work as a team with a few others of the family who will help as and when necessary.
It's going to be interesting.

Wasn’t the plan for William and Kate to move to Adelaide Cottage not just for the children but to be near the Queen and then eventually move into Windsor Castle?

I hope they haven’t unpacked. ?

You know how you can only see the first bit of the post on the "I'm on" section ... I thought you were shipping them off to Australia shock

I do seem to remember that conversations were had about only using Buck House for state events. I wonder if that will happen? If so, where will Charles and Camilla live?

I am not a royalist but had huge respect for Queen Elizabeth.

I believe we are seeing the beginning of the end of the monarchy now.

Rather than being intelligent as biglouis stated Charles is far from clever (Since when has a B in history and a C in French indicated intelligence? Is it even University entrance qualifications?). He has done nothing to make me feel he will be an asset to this country. As for his previous mistress, now wife, they both behaved disgracefully and the fact that previous monarchs were in the habit of behaving promiscuously is no excuse. The more important the person the more important it is that they set an example.

The recent scandals regarding accepting carrier bags full of cash and cash for honours seem to be being ignored by so many on Gransnet.

Charles is not fit to be King, his now wife is not fit to be Queen Consort. The monarchy needs to come to an end.

Since when has a degree denoted intelligence, as opposed to being clever? Our new PM isn't exactly showing much intelligence at the moment .

It’s wonderful how people from outside our country can have such an opinion tell your American friends to worry about their own problems and leave us to oursYammy , cheeky buggers
Charles and Camilla will do fine he’s a decent human being and Camilla will help him enormously
I like the idea of a King Charles 111 but I feel sorry for him being of an age he should be retired I think Charles Camilla William and Kate will work together as a team they seem on the same page
And I m not a Royalist or a republican just an ordinary Joe soap with a foot in neither camp

I think that's the idea BlueBelle. As much as we can know. Of course, there is also the indefatigable Princess Royal and also Prince Edward and Sophie. A small team but probably better for that.

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 16:21:30

Given the presidents the Americans have voted for since the
Coronation of the Queen
