Have been channel hopping loads..some of the newsreaders are irritating..my low mood I suspect..but others I can listen/view for few hours...I've taken to watching the Euro news and CNN to see how they are reporting on the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the incoming King Ascension...which channels are you watching?

Mine

BBC... Wondering how Charles had the wherewithin to be able to deliver a speech yesterday...Day after I lost my mother so quickly I couldn't speak to anyone..Suppose he has to be strong as our future king.

I thought the same. I went to the registry office when my mum died. I’d been coping very well on automatic pilot but when I tried to say I’d come to register my mothers death I just broke down. I was rather expecting Charles to stumble over his words but he didn’t. It showed in his eyes, though.

My preferred channel is GB News. Extremely informative with Alistair Stewart, David Starkey and others, who really do know what they're talking about. Having said that, the rolling news is beginning to have a negative effect for sure.

We have the TV off. It only goes on in the evening to watch I player, Netflix or similar.

I thought Penny Mordant did a good job. Liz Truss looks like she has just swallowed a lemon!

Barmeyoldbat Sat 10-Sept-22 13:44:02

I am another who finds it overkill, today we put BBC sounds on and had some cheerful music while we painted the bedroom. In the evening we are watching Iplayer or Netflix and I just want to hear some news other than the Queen.

It is repetitive I agree. I've been dipping in and out and reading in between. I was out this morning so missed the Accession programme, hopefully it will be repeated later. I do love the pageantry and ceremony which we do so well.

I am just so grateful for my Humax where I have so many recorded programmes to watch. Will definitely be using this most of the time over the next week. I do just tune in to Aljazeera a couple of times a day - just to be reassured that the rest of the world is still in existence!!!

Guessed Nick Abbott would not be permitted on LBC this weekend, nor next - all his hard work on new PM will be getting a bit dated!!!

It is really not at all funny. We know that the mental health in UK is extremely fragile and effecting so very many people, this sort of taking off usual soaps, and programmes, etc is going to have a further disastrous effect.

It's really too much and many reporter's are obviously stuck for words and saying whatever comes into their heads. Must be hard for the reporters when there is nothing new to say. I would watch things if there were specific programmes but not sit glued to the TV coverage. The producers haven't paid attention to the criticism regarding the coverage of Prince Philip's death and funeral.

MiniMoon Sat 10-Sept-22 14:20:37

Franbern, my humax box died! We linked up our satellite dish to the TV which has a satellite receiver built in. Now we don't have the capacity to record anything and I also lost my favourite films that I'd kept on the humax box.
I agree about the repetitiveness of the BBC coverage. I enjoyed watching the accession declaration this morning , my Mother would have loved it. We do pageantry really well.

twinnytwin Sat 10-Sept-22 14:35:46

Watched the BBC coverage this morning and really enjoyed it. Also last eve from 6pm for an hour before going out. Once it starts being repeated, I find another channel or a recording to watch.

Are you really suggesting that taking off soaps and programmes is going to adversely affect the mental health of the nation?
We are obviously in a moribund state and without resources of any kind if such a triviality caused mental suffering.

nadateturbe Sat 10-Sept-22 15:18:33

I read the eulogy at my mum's funeral. I didn't want anyone else to do it.
I agree Glorianny a bit of comedy would be welcome.

Greyduster Sat 10-Sept-22 15:33:25

I thought the poor Queen Consort looked, this morning, as if she was about to burst into tears at any minute while the King was speaking. I felt rather sorry for her.

buffyfly9 Sat 10-Sept-22 16:03:13

The screen on my TV has never been so black! I cannot stand the wall to wall coverage going over and over about the same stuff. I look on my mobile for the latest headlines, and yes, I agree with an earlier post, there is a savage war in Ukraine, as I type this people will be dying. Let's get a grip!
I have loads of things recorded and DVDs that I havn't watched yet. That is what I will be doing until the funeral takes place and I will respectfully watch that.

FannyCornforth Sat 10-Sept-22 16:08:52

Greyduster yes, I imagine that Camilla is absolutely exhausted

Franbern I agree with you. It’s not going to help people who are struggling or depressed.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, my mom died just before Diana did.
I was 25 l, she was 50, and I was absolutely devastated, on the cusp of a breakdown.
The Diana stuff absolutely did my head in.

My NDN has been watching it all constantly for the duration.
It’s not good for one’s health.

DH is watching the golf, and I’ve got a load of Sky comedy lined up for later. I’m a new convert to Sky, so there is much to catch up with.

I’ve checked the LBC schedule, and Nick Abbot is back with his ‘abnormal normal show’ on Sunday smile

Grandma70s Sat 10-Sept-22 16:17:50

I’m loving every minute. The programme this afternoon about the Queen in the 1950s was especially interesting to me, because I remember it all. It annoys me that there is a tendency to portray the fifties as the dark ages. Certainly not true for me, but I suppose I was lucky.

merlotgran Sat 10-Sept-22 16:26:49

I don’t think it’s right for us to comment on how the coverage may or may not be good for some people’s mental health.

We’re all different.

FannyCornforth Sat 10-Sept-22 16:40:57

Merlot I did stess that it definitely wasn’t good for my mental health.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned who I did, I’m just a bit concerned.

I’m not sure why i and others can’t mention it.
I thought that we were supposed to be considerate of such things now,
or is discussion of mental health still taboo?

Yes, we do react differently, of course we do. That’s why I mentioned it.

Jaxjacky Sat 10-Sept-22 16:41:39

We’re watching the cricket, it’s too much.

We’re watching the cricket, it’s too much.

It really is.

nadateturbe Sat 10-Sept-22 16:51:41

Why not Merlotgran.
It's definitely not good for mine. It's easy to say switch off, but I'm missing my favourite TV and radio. Tony Blackburn show went on and on about listeners memories and just repeated a lot that we have heard umpteen times. Tried two other stations, ditto.
There must be people missing the cheerful banter more who as I said are isolated.
Of course it's very sad, but we need some normal.
I'm not sure how I will cope with another week. Yes I can watch Netflix, listen to cds etc. but I just want normal.

FannyCornforth Sat 10-Sept-22 16:58:38

Nadateturbe I couldn’t agree with you more.
We all have our own personal and problematic lives to deal with.
We need our little constants. The Queen was a huge constant for many, including me.
It’s enough to feel sad or whatever you feel privately.
I don’t want to sound presumptuous, but didn’t HM feel similarly?

SueDonim Sat 10-Sept-22 17:00:09

We’ve just moved and don’t have the tv fixed up yet because we’re swapping TV’s with our daughter. Ours is too big for this house and hers is too small for hers - we’re being green by recycling and not buying new!

The last thing I watched on TV was the Jubilee. I’ve seen a few bits of the coverage of the queen on iPlayer on my iPad but nothing else. I hope I can watch the tv programme that was on BBC last night at 8:30 as it sounds interesting.

Esmay Sat 10-Sept-22 17:53:31

We watched to the coverage on the BBC and also on ITV .

And finding the whole thing overwhelming - with a tear stained face and an aching head I had to change channels to watch a film /comedy /any distraction .

tickingbird Sat 10-Sept-22 17:57:09

I thought Camilla looked very strained and did feel sorry for both her and Charles.
