Normandygirl recently we bought items from an artist working in the Uk but delivered with all appropriate customs declarations from Latvia. The delivery costs were very economical too. I can’t but help think that movement of goods need not be such a big issue.

Wonder when the EU is going to let us off the naughty step?

The U.K. government has yet to introduce all checks, customs and excise charges etc.

All countries apart from those who have a trade agreement are on the so called naughty step or in grown up language treated as a third country.

It is called -the rules - such a large economic and powerful block as the EU are able to do this to protect all its members interests.

No, there is enough paperwork as it is, and a huge amount more expense to businesses and government.

The Tories are not prepared for the political fallout this would cause.

It isn’t that procedures have to improve, it is that they have to be introduced.

The EU fully implemented all procedures when we finally left the EU. The U.K. did not.

As you say, because it would cost so much and all imports would come to a standstill- even more than now. You couldn't make it up, really!

Interestingly, I was reading today, that the Tories will never be able to shake off the image of themselves as the Brexit party, and as the situation gets worse in the U.K. the Tory party will go down with it.

They only have a lot to do with the Brexit procedures if and when directed by the government to carry them out.

Nothing, but nothing is done by the civil service without law backing their action up.

I'm interested - why if the artist is working in the UK did you buy artworks from Latvia?

Maybe Ronib is refering to work done by the civil servants for the Trans Pacific or Indo Pacific trade deal that UK will sign up sometime this year. 11 member countries so far.
Since UK signed up to join, 5 or 6 other countries have formally signed up including China.

Or the work done so far for the trade dispute with EU with regards to Northern Ireland which is a bit of a minefield.

There wasnt much work for the civil servants to do - most of it was already in existence since our time as members of the EU.

From approx 2011 I think.

He’s an amazing printmaker and someone I know met him as he’s working for a London auction house. I was surprised that he was able to have cushions, mugs, prints, postcards etc made and produced in Latvia with very cheap postage to Uk. Plus a tiny piece of paper dealing with import stuff. So of course has entry to EU market as well as here. Was under £135 in total.
