I thought we might like to record and share some of the images and thoughts that have a special meaning to us.

I’ll start with this. My most favourite place in the U.K., my home county.

I was thinking yesterday how good it was that, years on from Diana’s funeral plastic was removed from the flowers and then people were asked to only leave flowers without plastic and references were made about what was going to happen to the flowers afterwards.

The flowers left outside Windsor Castle were arranged so neatly along the Long Walk at Windsor by officials each evening.

Does anyone know who sent the wreaths that were propped up against the pews by the coffin during the service at St George’s Chapel?

One of my abiding images will be that of the lone figure of Garrison Sergeant Major “Vern” Stokes, striding purposefully down The Mall, pace stick in hand, doing a last minute check of the route before the cortège set off. His years of unparalleled experience of ceremonial and meticulous attention to detail gave us the spectacle we marvelled at on Monday. Everything has to be inch perfect, and nothing escapes his eye.

Meghan always looks absolutely beautiful. She has amazing style. Even when she wears something a bit mad (the green cape thing) she carries it off fantastically.
I wonder what perfume she swears?

Yes WWM2 I agree.

Please don’t use this photo as an excuse to start hating, but I just wanted to say that I thought Megan looked absolutely stunning

At first glance I thought she had her hands in her pockets ?

I was chatting to a lady in the village yesterday who is I think 93. She has lived under 5 monarchs: King George V, King Edward VIII, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles 3rd.

I have arranged with her to record some of her memories.

This…

If it was the Malteses cross that fell off no amount of bolting the whole crown to the cushion would stop it happening again.

I have now lived through three reigns, George VI, Elizabeth II and now Charles III. My brother, who was born in 1936 during the very brief reign of Edward VIII, has lived through four.

The young men of the bearer party did an absolutely sterling job and had so much more to do than most recent funerals. Thinking back, Sir Winston Churchill’s coffin was lead lined so unusually heavy. The bearer party were chosen for their height but mainly their strength. There are many steps to the doors of St Paul’s and it must have been their worst nightmare that day. As I remember, he was taken down the Thames to Oxfordshire to be buried.

I didn’t notice the gun dog. Was it one of those gorgeous black Sandringham Labradors.

No, her name is Lissi, and she’s a cocker. I know, as I have one myself!

Netty21 Tue 20-Sept-22 07:59:07

Beautiful tribute and so very clever! ? ?

Grandma70s Tue 20-Sept-22 07:37:18

The whole occasion was perfect, faultless. The removal of the crown, orb and sceptre from the coffin sticks in my mind, so symbolic (and I was so scared he’d drop them). Otherwise, George and Charlotte, so solemn and sweet, Charlotte nearly engulfed by her hat.

Not only wrong about the Fell pony, D D also said the Duke of Kent was marching behind the coffin. It was not Kent but Gloucester, Kent is far too tottery these days and followed by car.

They were some flowers from all her gardens,
Unlike most who only have one garden, many don’t even have a garden …Beautiful flowers and Harry’s a wise man !!

I have been musing about yesterday and really when I think about it, the Queens coronation and her funeral are sort of bookends for my generation.

I was born in 1946, and watched (from Hyde Park Corner) her coronation at 7 years old. The Queen has been there the whole of my life. Now at 76 - I am hoping for a few more years - but I think I can say that I am that generation of the post war years, just as the Queen was.

Apparently it was rosemary and myrtle with roses and flowers taken from Highgrove and Buckingham Palace.

And according to one television commentator, the myrtle came from a shrub that had been grown from a piece that was in the Queen's wedding bouquet.

I just wondered why she didn’t go by boat on the river Thames from London to Windsor
Guess more folk saw the procession by the car route Watched from here in Sydney finished 2am so bit tired today smile
