Holly and Phil- do we care?

Seems like Holly and Phil are at the centre of unpleasant Twitter storm. This is after — They posted selfies with Boris Johnson
-Made the cost of living crisis up into a trivial game show
- Went to the Queen’s lying in state without queuing ( apparently they are “journalists”)
I’m no fan and never watch morning TV, but do we really care about these people? Are they just airheads?

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 23-Sept-22 10:34:24

No, I don’t care except to say that if they had given a proper and truthful explanation right at the start of these shenanigans all the upset would probably have been avoided. At the end of the day it’s simply the gutter press trying to sell papers.

Ailidh Fri 23-Sept-22 10:24:46

I don't care at all whether they did or whether they didn't. I Do care about the Kangaroo Courts of Gotcha Journalism, which I find utterly disgraceful.

Holly Willoughby I wouldn't recognize if she danced across my porridge.
Philip Schofield, way back in the Broom Cupboard days, my old mum used to really like. Personally, I preferred the gopher.

I really couldn't care less, to be honest - but what does concern me is the level of personal abuse which has been levelled at them on social media. It seems the #BeKind message didn't last very long, and brings back memories of what happened to Caroline Flack.

Yes, I agree Blondiescot

It's called Tall Poppy Syndrome
Just because they're famous and on television doesn't mean they may not be vulnerable. They have families too.

Maggiemaybe Fri 23-Sept-22 10:15:51

Good grief. I never watch morning TV, but don’t care for Schofield. If they’ve done something wrong then that should be addressed by the BBC.

But I do care very much about what’s happening here. These social media witch hunts serve as a reminder and a warning about just how alarming the pack mentality can be, and what harm it can do.

Rosalyn69 Fri 23-Sept-22 09:54:23

I have no interest in them whatsoever. I find her vacuous and him creepy. End of….

Grandma70s Fri 23-Sept-22 09:48:55

I remember Schofield from when he was on children’s TV, but I don’t know who Holly is, so obviously I don’t care.

Blossoming Fri 23-Sept-22 09:41:32

I don’t watch their show and don’t find them interesting.

Mollygo Fri 23-Sept-22 09:34:02

I don’t watch them simply because I don’t have TV on in the morning. I’ve only read about the vitriol over the queue jumping and the doing it to get a knighthood accusations on GN.
Be kind is often used nowadays to mean something totally different.

Galaxy Fri 23-Sept-22 09:30:29

Its complex though isnt it. On the other hand we have 'but it was common knowledge' why did nobody say.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Sept-22 09:26:32

Is this another case of trial by media ?

Gentle drip of leaked information from someone within. If this is the case I find it extremely distasteful.

The gotcha press and internet keyboard warriors deciding the outcome of peoples careers, is that really what the U.K. and the world has been reduced to?

FannyCornforth Fri 23-Sept-22 09:25:38

One woman’s ‘gossip’ is another one’s ‘common knowledge’

Galaxy Fri 23-Sept-22 09:22:25

I agree I think this has very little to do with the queue.

MerylStreep Fri 23-Sept-22 09:18:17

I watch Eamon on GB News. He certainly doesn’t hold back with his opinions of Phil ?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Sept-22 09:13:02

FannyCornforth

They fell out with Phil, Serendipity
Eamonn can’t stand him, especially as he was very unpleasant to Ruth apparently.
I’ve seen some footage of them at awards ceremonies and it’s quite obvious
(Yes, I really am that airhead!)

Isn’t that just gossip FannyCornforth ?

Mind you this entire thread is speculative ???

Luckygirl3 Fri 23-Sept-22 09:12:03

Who are Holly and Phil?

Why did Eammon and Ruth go ? Mind you will we ever know the true reason for leaving! I liked them both.

confused

Ruth has presented this summer with Rylan, Eamonn is suffering from chronic pain due a back condition.

(I have it on in the kitchen whilst I am ironing, as I cannot take 24 hour news day in day out)

I’ve never watched GM so this couple hold no interest for me. I’ve skimmed the PR debacle in the papers though. Apparently Holly is distraught. I can’t imagine how traumatic it must be doing something wrong in full glare of publicity. I’m glad I’m not a celebrity, nor any of my family!

Grandmadinosaur Fri 23-Sept-22 09:03:39

I can’t stand to watch TM if they are presenting. Far too smug the pair of them. If this is the start of the end for them some good will have come out of it. There have been several stand ins who have made a much better job. Like you say FC as regarding the hierarchy set up at ITV it’s if they are given the chance is another matter.

Saying that though I too am horrified at the vitriol aimed at them.

MayBee70 Fri 23-Sept-22 09:03:14

I’m more annoyed that MP’s were able to take several people with them to be honest. I don’t watch This Morning ( used to love it in the Richard and Judy days) but I don’t see how they could do their show and queue for 12 hours. And David Beckham, who did queue is being accused of doing it to get a knighthood. I despair of the gutter press and social media sometimes.

FannyCornforth Fri 23-Sept-22 08:56:49

Phil and Holly have been very unpopular with viewers for a while.

The whole set up at ITV is very nepotistic and in-bred (for want of a better word)
James Grant Management seem to be synonymous with ITV, which also now employs Jack Madeley and Molly Schofield as agents.

That’s why you see the same faces on everything on ITV.
If you look at the daytime schedule (and arguably prime time) on ITV, it really is quite poor.

Schofield Snr’s star has been on the wain for a while, especially since the runner scandal.
I don’t think that Schofield is a very pleasant person, and the viewers aren’t buying it anymore.

The other TM presenters including Fearne, Dermot, Rylan and Alison are far more popular with viewers, and they’ve been asking for P&H to go for a while.

(For the record, I haven’t watched TM since the glory days of Richard and Judy)

MaizieD Fri 23-Sept-22 08:50:49

I have never had any regard for either or interest in either. Just to make it clear that I'm not 'turning' on anyone. I'm amazed it's considered worth a thread.

How unpleasant to call them or anyone else "airheads".

Reminder to self: be glad you're not famous. The pack can turn on a sixpence.

The British public made them celebrities now they are deciding they are not. Maybe people should think twice before doing this .
I agree Volver and would add the pack can turn on a sixpence on Gransnet as well and that does not mean you.
The Queen bee and her workers are buzzing again.
