Things King Charles might do

I was thinking that should the media be a bit slow in referring to Camilla as simply ‘The Queen’, I think he’ll start doing so. I also think he’ll do something to see him referred to as ‘ Defender of Faiths’, rather than ‘the faith’.
I was also wondering how Christmas will look without the Queen, as I think she was the one who wanted them all at Sandringham. Will the Sussexes be invited? Andrew? The Middletons? Camilla’s family? Strange how my mind works when I can’t sleep!

Carol Middleton’s dream has come true. Changing Kate’s University was the best decision she ever made.

I should imagine the V&A would run a mile if offered the Crown Jewels - the cost of insuring and securing them would cripple their budget for years.

Carol Middleton knew if her daughter went to St,Andrew’s she
would become Princess of Wales ? Perhaps she gazes into a
glass ball.

Oh, she had expectations ?

I rather like Princess Anne. She comes across as a no nonsense type of person. I admired her decision to accompany her mother’s body all the time until it reached London.

She accompanied it to Windsor, too.

I have a lot of time for her, too. I like the way she wouldn't have her children drawn into The Firm and have any sort of titles.

There's some ghastly snobbery on this thread.

I agree. Heaven forfend people having thoughts above their station. They should know their place in life and stay in it.

What does it matter or affect you or me?

I was planning to go to Highgrove

?????????

Well, you'd better get your visit in quick. It wasn't me who said he might get rid of it.{Grin}

No, it was me ?

Good, not my big foot in it again. Surely he will have gardeners who will carry all his work on. If it is open to the public it will make some pocket money. I was wondering about all the Duchy food will William get all the revenue from that?
Don't encourage me I am in enough trouble as it is.smile

Anniebach Sat 24-Sept-22 12:25:28

When I went to Highgrove I didn’t pay, I received an invite.

Duchy Food is now wholly owned by Waitrose who make charitable donations to The Princes’ Charitable Trust. There are no profits for the RF and nor were there ever just to put things straight.

Katie59 Sat 24-Sept-22 12:43:55

As William is now Duke of Cornwall Highgrove would be convenient for him as a country pad. More uncertain are Sandringham and Balmoral if they are going to slim down they can’t keep everything.

This assumes that the role of Princess of Wales is seen as something one might aspire to in a modern society.

GrannyGravy it was a very enjoyable visit and he escorted us
around the gardens, i would be very surprised if he left
Highgrove

Duchy Food is only a part of the Duchy of Cornwall. The King has done all right out of the Duchy.

Ownership of the estate has proven lucrative for Charles, and paid him an income of £21m for the year ending 31 March 2022, according to the duchy’s annual accounts.

Only repeating what I read in the press of course but not sure Charles and Camilla would want to give up Highgrove, memories of their trysts.

volver Sat 24-Sept-22 13:01:03

I think it's important to recognise that Balmoral and Sandringham (and probably other places too) are actually owned by members of the Windsor family. Highgrove is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall. Buckingham Palace, Windsor, Holyrood - owned by the Crown Estates (so us, is it?)

I don't think we should be in the business of turfing people out of their own property.

Vintagenonna Sat 24-Sept-22 13:01:47

It would have been a polite gesture to inform the first Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, that he was announcing William as 'Prince of Wales' BEFORE telling the world.

Why not? They are the private property of the King. I'm pretty sure that the estates will be run at a profit. No different from all the owners of the rather large properties I mentioned earlier.

There are so many posts on here that appear to just be 'let's have a pop at Charles' regardless of whether or not what they are saying is true.

I don’t think trysts has anything to do with it. Highgrove is a modest country house, not a mansion, which Charles has owned for many years - it’s effectively his actual home, because he’s got what he loves there. He’s poured his heart into the gardens, it’s all green, sustainable and designed to his wishes, and I can imagine him wanting to continue to use it as his main base as he does now.

25Avalon Sat 24-Sept-22 14:34:56

Yes William now owns Highgrove House as well as Dolphin House on Tresco IOS as part of the Duchy of Cornwall. Can’t see him turfing his old dad out though!

Chestnut Sat 24-Sept-22 14:54:39

MaizieD In which case, before shooting your mouth off don't you think you ought to find out who is receiving money and who isn't?
So simply mentioning the various branches of the Royal Family is 'shooting my mouth off'?? I never suggested anyone be blacklisted, removed or stop receiving money. You are very rude.

Perhaps he'll let his Dad and Step-Mum stay there sometimes.

Is William a keen gardener?

But the ones you listed don't receive public money, Chestnut so I'm not sure why they need pruning.
I'm just curious.
