Things King Charles might do

I was thinking that should the media be a bit slow in referring to Camilla as simply ‘The Queen’, I think he’ll start doing so. I also think he’ll do something to see him referred to as ‘ Defender of Faiths’, rather than ‘the faith’.
I was also wondering how Christmas will look without the Queen, as I think she was the one who wanted them all at Sandringham. Will the Sussexes be invited? Andrew? The Middletons? Camilla’s family? Strange how my mind works when I can’t sleep!

If we stopped calling them your majesty your highness, what are they just a celebrity family.

The National anthem is a dreadful dirge - dreary tune and words which make no sense in the 21st century.

Agreed, varian ?

I haven't sung the National Anthem for years. There's nothing in it that's relevant for me at all.

Jaberwok

Oh, and I love ,the National anthem and sing it with gusto. But then I'm old fashioned, love the monarchy and am generally very un modern.

I think we would get on very well Jaberwok

Anniebach
I noticed that too!

Did anyone listen? It's good.

"Thy choicest gifts in store on him be pleased to pour"

Why? Why should God give the monarchy special treatment?

Anniebach Sun 25-Sept-22 18:09:43

It was sung with gusto at the conference Today, not a squeak
of protest

Sorry Prentice, I didn't mean to sound a know all. I've noticed too that Charles 11nd seems to have been resurrected in certain. news outlets! An honest mistake or lack of historical knowledge? Probably the latter as knowledge of history often seems extremely sketchy in a lot of media outlets. My own grandchildren although at university have virtually no knowledge of British history, or any other come to that, which I find astonishing and rather sad.

Richard Burgon is white Male and privileged, the mess we get ourselves into when we play identity politics grin. There are much more coherent arguments against the monarchy than that.

Complaining about the skin colour of the head of state is
racist

Prentice Sun 25-Sept-22 11:57:52

You are right Jaberwok that was my mistake. What I was really drawing attention to though was the BBC calling him Charles 11.

Prentice Sun 25-Sept-22 11:55:54

Will be asked to sing is not the same as being forced to sing, is it?
Would they prefer a black privileged male as Head Of State?
Being the King is naturally a privileged position but it would be strange if the present King was any other colour than white.
Rebublic are making a big thing out of this.

Grany Sun 25-Sept-22 11:54:41

For those discussing whether people should sing #GodSaveTheKing - not singing it is not unpatriotic, and patriotism has nothing to do with supporting the monarchy. It's an awful tune accompanied by stupid words. Time we had an anthem we could all sing.

Jaberwok Sun 25-Sept-22 11:52:25

It was King Charles 1st that lost his head not the 11nd. The second Charles was welcomed back at the restoration by cheering crowds and was known as The Merry Monarch. Traditionally he was one of the most popular of English kings.

Britain faces future with ‘white, privileged male’ as head of state, says Labour pressure group
Richard Burgon, a current Labour MP, was among around 60 attendees at the Labour for a Republic event on Saturday night

Labour delegates urged to sing national anthem

Labour conference delegates will on Sunday be asked to sing the National Anthem after Sir Keir Starmer opens the event by leading tributes to the Queen under a giant projector screen bearing a black-and-white image of her.

I think this is the best suggestion yet

Prentice Sun 25-Sept-22 11:14:17

Mr Starmer is not forcing anyone to sing the National Anthem, this is still a free country.
On the BBC news and politics page, the King is referred to twice as King Charles 11, so let us do hope he can keep his head.

maddyone Sun 25-Sept-22 11:05:15

You never know Callistemon, but I doubt it.

Callistemon21 Sun 25-Sept-22 09:52:10

Although .....

Might King Charles ask for suggestions for a new National Anthem?

Callistemon21 Sun 25-Sept-22 09:47:28

Oops, nothing to do with this thread!
?

Callistemon21 Sun 25-Sept-22 09:46:31

Grany

What do you think of Keir Starmer forcing people to sing the national anthem at party conference ?

forcing

They could do what John Redwood did with the Welsh National Anthem - flap their mouths open and shut like stranded fish.
