I agree that she seems to live in a bubble, unaware of the world or public around her, which isn't a great attribute for a politician.

I don't think it was stupidity. I think she knew very well what she was doing when she blamed the "anti-growth coalition". She's trying to turn people against "others". However, I think she's misread the mood of the population. Johnson might have got away with it - to be honest, he did get away with loads - but Truss doesn't have his charisma or cult following. She's refused to listen to the Treasury, the Bank of England, the OBR and the IMF. She's relied on information from zealots in the Tufton Street think tanks. I think they did have a plan, but it's backfired. They're going to have to rely on the Conservative Party not wanting another leadership race farce or the return of Johnson, but I have a feeling that won't last.

I think that it is a mixture of two things. First Truss is an opportunist and a good political operator.

Second and given her history, I have to give her the benefit of the doubt but as she not long ago said of Macron “the jury is out on that” she has apparently been on an ideological journey throughout her life.
She has ended swinging from one liberal interventionist ideology to the complete opposite. She is now a libertarian and small stater, just like Thatcher and Reagan.
That is where her admiration of thatcher comes from. She is modelling herself on Thatcher. The trouble is she has neither Thatchers brain nor subtlety.

This will almost certainly mean that she will lurch from crises to crises as she tries to pursue her neo-liberalist policies, - policies over which the majority of parliament have severe doubts or downright hostility, simply because Thatcher and Reagan proved that they could not work and god knows they tried hard enough.

I have just been reading how dangerous the crises was after the so called mini-budget and how close the U.K. came to economic collapse.

I don’t think the majority of the country realise just how serious it is. DH pension would have totally collapsed if the company had not rushed money into it - and that can’t go on. Undoubtedly other pensions were severely (potentially fatally) affected.

Truss is a severe liability to our finances and it can’t continue.

Still she’s “friends” with Macron now. What a load of nonsense!

She could dress like a sack of spuds as far as I’m concerned provided she ‘delivers’. Hmm. That’s debatable isn’t it? I think she means well (in a Head Girl, jolly hockey sticks type of way, full on with enthusiasm) but is out of her depth in many ways.

While discussing Truss’ dress - does anyone else think she should maybe invest in a good bra? Before I’m piled on for being misogynistic, or we mustn’t comment on women’s appearance etc , comments were made on Johnsons sloppy suits , tie waving over crotch etc so this is just an observation .

I'm just trying to put this into context. My son is very politically aware, has a degree in politics and economics and is currently studying for a masters in a politics-related subject. I suspect some of his interest came from his mother. Blair was PM for a significant chunk of my life, but my son was 10 when Blair resigned and he hardly remembers him. The euphoria of Labour's win, the disillusion and the opposition to Iraq are history to him. Whenever I mention Blair in any discussion I have with him, I have to explain the context because he didn't experience it. To Truss, Thatcher is largely a historic figure for younger people and I wonder if she's only ever read about the so-called "good" bits. Historians have a habit of distorting history.

So why do the grown-up Liz and her cronies think such a lot of Thatcher? Is she rebelling against her parents?

I rebelled against my own parents' political beliefs, so I sort of understand that. However, what they seem to have done is airbrushed all the negative side of Thatcherism.

Truss had left wing parents. I've seen it said that they are/were political activists. If they were, I'm sure they might have mentioned Thatcher a time or two before little Liz was 15... And I doubt the 'mention' would have been positive..

Maybe Truss should make a return trip to the boarded-up areas of Leeds and Paisley and see how they've fared after 12 years of Tory government. Maybe she should think through how her vision would affect those and so many similar areas.

I can’t wear peplums - too rotund.

Truss wears dresses with peplums and I’m very fond of peplums. In my youth I had a Biba jersey maxi dress with a wide belt and a peplum and it was my favourite dress ever. And cummerbunds. I like those too (how shallow am I )

It was a selective Grammar school, might have changed to comprehensive later but was selective when Mrs May started there.

At the age of 13, she won a place at the former Holton Park Girls' Grammar School, a state school in Wheatley. During her time as a pupil, the Oxfordshire education system was reorganised, and the school became the new Wheatley Park Comprehensive School

An article in the Ties to-day tells us it is a Karen Millen dress (about £200) that is worn by lots of famous people including the Princess of Wales who worn a version in yellow for an official hospital visit.
