Ok. A man wants to use a women’s loo. He is famous, so gets his way. Many people object, but he is defended by Glorianny on the following grounds:
* She (G) has used opposite sex loos when caught short and she didn’t want to queue.
* Izzard has raised a lot of money for charity
* It was mitigated by the fact that he was accompanied by two women making sure that everyone in the 300-strong audience knew he was there, so were aware that they could cross their legs till he finished.
* Concern that allowing men into women’s loos opens the doors to other men with nefarious intent is ‘abhorrent’.
* King Charles also raises money for charity and like millions of others was taken in by Jimmy Saville, so Glorianny drags him into the mix.
* Philanthropists need better mirrors to check their make-up (No, I don’t see the relevance either, but still)
* Izzard using the Ladies is irrelevant because King Charles ’had a close relationship’ with Saville. (??)
* Autogynephilia is, according to Glorianny) a ‘disproved theory’.
*Concern that if loos become unisex across the piece people in care settings will be at risk is ‘dredging up’ reasons to object (said to a poster with a profoundly disabled daughter).
*The perennial claim (aka ‘the trisher defence’, named after an ex poster who used it ever time the subject of men in the Ladies came up) that it’s ok as nobody checks your sex.
*The fact that many/most men wouldn’t use the Ladies proves that they are ‘open to men’ (bear with me) and are just choosing not to (ok, I give up).
* Women and girls should accept that they are at risk in toilets, only use them in groups, and be alert.
* When women use public loos, their friends should watch in case a man needs to use them. (I’m not sure whether this is so that the women can be warned, or so that they can make way, but neither would be necessary if the man just used the male facilities).
* There are cases of women attacking other women, so adding an additional risk is fine.
All of the above, we are told, is ‘based on more accurate and street-wise data than ours’ and now that we are in the clearer light of day, it was all ‘just a little balance’ against the arguments that boiled down to saying it is not safe to give men access to women’s loos. Hmmmm.
Oh, and I can’t see any character assassination of Izzard whatsoever. The fact that opening female spaces to males would give access to perverts is not suggesting that Izzard is a pervert, and makes no more sense than saying ‘some grass is green, some frogs are green, so some frogs are actually grass’.
