Liz Truss has told King Charles not to go to the COP27 meeting next month

This is what I have just heard said on the BBC 9am news. And yes, they used the word 'told'.

It isn't on their website. It's considerably toned down on the Guardian website. The mirror is even stronger - 'Liz Truss orders King Charles not to attend COP27 climate summit."

What the hell is going on here?

Unelected Head of State hasn't got a job can only do what the PM asks, just serves politicians and the monarchy.

No role to play for the people of this country and the constitution

DH used to go to work by helicopter too.

I'm a vegetarian but I wear leather shoes.

People do their best, including unelected Heads of State with a job to do.

My point is, don't expect anyone to be perfect.

I agree Volver... good intention is important

Fears of ‘conflict’ between future king’s travel and his role as a green champion

Grany Tue 04-Oct-22 08:23:27

The Prince of Wales took more than 20 private flights, including several helicopters, within the UK last year in order to avoid being stuck in traffic, it has emerged.

The heir to the throne is said to be “allergic” to travelling by helicopter, one of the most polluting modes of travel.

However, the annual Sovereign Grant report revealed that he took several flights during the last financial year, including hopping between engagements in Northern Ireland and Wales and a 70-mile trip from London to RAF Brize Norton, in order to catch a charter flight to Jordan.

The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall also appear to have flown separately to Wales by helicopter from their respective homes, Highgrove in Gloucestershire and Ray Mill in Wiltshire.

The couple took more than 15 charter flights, including to and from Belfast, and multiple journeys from residence to residence - including Glasgow to Northolt last July and Northolt to Marham to Aberdeen in December.

It comes as the Duchy of Cornwall, the Prince’s landed estate, outlined its ambition to reach net zero carbon by the early 2030s.

Charles is in Scotland today on his theatrical pantomime tour to promote his undemocratic position as an over privileged, over paid, unaccountable, unelected head of state #NotMyKing

#Ecohypocrite Charles's second helicopter flight today. It's a 45 minute drive from Dunfermline Abbey to Hollyroodhouse, but it seems he took a helicopter instead.

Yes our new king is a climate hypocrite, taking all these helicopter rides, private jets etc, but that does not mean that his views on climate change are wrong.

They are right. It's just that he doesn't see they apply to him and his family.

I believe that he genuinely holds these views on the environment and climate change and if his elevation to the monarchy means he cannot express these views he should delegate that task to the new Prince of Wales.

If the government will not allow him to attend the COP he must ensure a video speech from a member of his family is heard there. This PM has no right to veto that.

What a good post varian.

Climate change isn't highly debated within scientific circles. It was 40 years ago.

Now we know. Don't cling to the idea that it might not be true.

It's true.

Lilyflower Tue 04-Oct-22 05:24:20

Constitutional Monarchy is meant to be above politics and Charles promised to keep out of the fray when he succeeded to the throne.

Climate change due to man made intervention might well be observable or measurable albeit highly debated within scientific circles.

The response to climate change is entirely political and the subject of an alarming response on the part of governments, business, the establishment and media to hijack democracy and enforce an authoritarian, top down regime which stifles debate and freedom.

The idea that some wish us to sit in the dark freezing and eating state doled out lentils is terrifying when science, technology, political will and intellectual freedom can fix any problem thrown up by CC.

Agree wholeheartedly

Mcbab Mon 03-Oct-22 21:44:27

Why do you believe everything that is in the media? Yes even the saintly BBC.

The waiting crowds of monarchists who support the Union?

Okey doke...

Grayling1 Mon 03-Oct-22 18:58:51

Don't know Anniel if you will get your wish as when Nichola Sturgeon arrived at Dunferline today for an event to mark it's status as a city she was booed by the waiting crowds. It was King Charles' first official duty as king and was well attended by the people of the new city who gave him a great welcome.

Alie2Oxon Thank you for your worthwhile and considered response - I agree that Liz Truss is dangerous and hope that all of us who believe this will do something about it. I have emailed my Tory MP and his assistant replied agreeing with me and pointing out that my MP supported Rishi! We all need to let our elected member know what we think - they do take notice of messages from constituents. Also support worthwhile petitions by signing them, and make donations if you can to e.g. the Good Law Project who are working to use the law to keep the government from breaking the law......again......and feeling appropriate consequences for what they have already done. Law makers should be law keepers! And while we are at it - lets support Proportional Representation - its a far better system to make sure voters views actually make a difference.

Wagging her finger during an interview, now touching the King and telling him he can't attend a meeting where other heads of state are attending and he has a long standing interest in, as I said yesterday she needs to learn some manners.

kevincharley Mon 03-Oct-22 17:08:21

Lucca

He doesn’t look too thrilled

Gosh! I'd love to know what led up to that photo. The King looks angry and Truss looks patronising.

Coco51 Mon 03-Oct-22 17:05:13

Because she’s going to rip up the net zero, promise; Give the go ahead to more fracking - despite fracking companie saying there is not likely to be viable recovery of gas in the UK,

undines Mon 03-Oct-22 16:52:38

I'm with Volver - largely. This is SUCH a big issue, and yes, we all know that technology has brought us many benefits, but until we go all out and say there has to be a better way there will always be excuses. Yes, Charles should have gone - he's probably confused about the boundaries and trying to find his feet and do as good a job as his mother, but the poor boy has landed with Truss, at his inception. I agree the RF come across as hypocrites, but I wonder how much choice they have, without really taking a tough stance on how those about them organise their transport etc. And in respect of renewables, WHY are new houses STILL BEING BUILT without solar panels?? Climate change is not really being taken seriously, there's too much green-washing and the ideology of this government will only make it worse.

Grany Mon 03-Oct-22 16:37:14

Charles is a climate hypocrite travels around in jets helecopters train many grand houses.

Pays no inheritance tax.

More than 1,000 laws have been vetted by the Queen or Charles before they were even put in front of parliament.
Under the procedure of Queen’s or King’s consent, ministers alert the monarch to any draft bill that might affect their private wealth. Since their assets span everything from country estates to housing, much of which the public don’t even know about, that grants them a huge amount of power over the very process of drafting the laws that govern the rest of us.

Prefer not to sell your houses, Charles? Then your tenants will just have to tolerate this 21st-century feudalism. Don’t want those pipelines running through your land in Scotland, ma’am? Then you will be exempt from the law covering everyone else – and no one at Holyrood will be told, until they read it in the Guardian.

Her Majesty has £700,000 sterling from the civil list, besides castles, forests, domains, fiefs, tenancies, freeholds, prebendaries, tithes, rent, confiscations, and fines, which bring in over a million sterlin

“The paradise of the rich is made out of the hell of the poor.”

One law for King Charles the billionaire, another for you. Bailiffs for the poorest in society, privileged exemption for the very richest.

A society with all the latest technology and sophistication, yet still in the shadow of medieval feudalism. Except even John of Gaunt couldn’t have counted on the unstinting support of the Daily Mail.

Glorianny

I've just realised that much as I hate the RF if it came to it I'd back Charles not Truss!!!

As would I.
