I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

And why does Netflix depict him as trying to? Could it be that they were short of genuine things to show the royals doing for that year so they whipped up a sensational episode that smeared Charles?

lemsip Mon 17-Oct-22 08:37:52

I don't have netflix.. it's all over the news.....

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 21:10:02

Why would he have tried to force the queen to abdicate?

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 21:06:09

I don't have Netflix, so that's a bit lost on me.

I've never watched the Crown, but I assume it would be sensationalised?

here we go then!
John Major rubbishes The Crown's depiction of Charles 'trying to force Queen's abdication' in 1990s
The upcoming fifth season of Netflix royal drama The Crown is reported to show the then Prince Charles briefing people against the Queen in a bid to replace her in 1991.https://news.sky.com/story/john-major-rubbishes-the-crowns-depiction-of-charles-trying-to-force-queens-abdication-in-1990s-12721855

Just to add, I'm quite happy to gossip about Charles, though. smile

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 20:22:24

Well, I'm sure we can all find other things to talk about.

I'd be very disappointed to think nobody has any other interesting things to have a chin wag about.

lemsip Sun 16-Oct-22 20:19:12

you are right MissAdventure so shall we get this thread and others of a similar subject closed down and bring an end to gransnet

Do we not all do as we please re relationships but we don’t
make the headlines or have lies about us written for a tv series.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 19:18:42

The main thing is that the royals do whatever they please, regardless of what we think.

Charles and Camilla seem very much suited, and it really doesn't matter too much who said or did what, all those years ago.

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 19:15:58

Much the same MissA

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 19:15:28

It will be cruel if Netflix include any of this gossip as fact. If those of us who live in the UK don’t know, how would those who are at the other side of the world?

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 19:15:10

Isnt that the same as those that "know" all about Harry and Meghan's conversations, how the queen must have felt about things, who adored whom, etc?

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 19:13:13

How on earth can anyone possibly know what happened that night? It all seems like tittle tattle and gossip to me.

Lucca Sun 16-Oct-22 17:54:48

Honestly this last page filled with stories that some people claim to know as facts…….hilarious.

Also. Netflix has films documentaries tv series etc nit just gossip and The Criwn.

Who could possibly think Charles left Buck House in the night
with the thousands surrounding the area, drove to the royal
train which would have been under lock and key, spent the rest
of the night with Camilla then drove back to Buck House for
breakfast

Who could possibly think that spending the night before your wedding in a royal train a castle or the local travel lodge with your married lover, kissing, hugging or politely shaking hands would be a good idea and a great start to any marriage?
How could anyone think that’s ok. ( if it happened of course).

I don't think many of us will have had an arranged marriage foisted on us against our will. Unless we are of South Asian heritage it's really not something we do. If we don't want the marriage we can pull out of it. He didn't have that opportunity.

At a reception at Buck house all night

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sun 16-Oct-22 17:13:41

The Buck House teception didn't go on all night you know!

Anniebach Sun 16-Oct-22 17:08:25

Charles is so clever, he was on the royal train and at a reception
at Buck house at the same time

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:53:11

I'm betting there was more than hugs had, that night. (If it ever happened, of course)

Oh dear, I give up! More heresay . It's high!y unlikely that Charles spent the night before his wedding at the home of Camilla. ,But it makes an ooh aaah story and I'm sure Netflix will report this event,so it must be true! People find it hard to forgive? It's over 40 years ago, lots of people weren't even born then or were very young children and simply don't care!

Unless I'm misremembering, they spent the night before his wedding in a carriage of the royal train. The press assumed he spent the night with Diana and there was a lot of "ooh la la!" about it, because the media were desperately trying to spin the idea of the fairytale love match, when it was already clear to those with eyes to see that Charles was entering the marriage under duress. Only later did it emerge that Charles's companion was Camilla and not Diana.

There's no evidence that sexual relations took place that night. We'll probably never know the truth of course and it's no business of anybody themselves, but I'm inclined to believe that they met privately for a good long heart to heart, probably with a kiss or two and hugs.
