I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

So she should be. She is quite obviously a huge support and help to Charles. I am not a royalist, but fair suck of the sauce bottle, she deserves a crown.

I just wonder what William and Harry really think. I’m sure they see that Camilla makes their father happy, but at the same time it must be difficult.

Visgir1 Wed 12-Oct-22 08:20:32

Without a doubt, she's the King's wife, his support.

silverlining48 Wed 12-Oct-22 08:21:29

I accept Camilla as consort but see no reason why she should be crowned.
Philip wasn’t crowned why would she be.

growstuff Wed 12-Oct-22 08:21:49

Why shouldn't Camilla be crowned? She's the King's wife.

Can’t work up the energy to be bothered. To me the whole coronation malarkey is an irrelevance

Kalu Wed 12-Oct-22 08:24:31

Hé is shameless, no surprise this is what he is insisting.

The economy's collapsing, Putin is bombing Ukraine, climate change going to devastate the world.

But should a posh woman have a fancy hat?

Priorities, priorities...

Humbertbear Wed 12-Oct-22 08:28:19

It isn’t down to Charles. The late Queen said Camilla should be known as The Queen Consort which is the title given to The Queen Mother and she was crowned. Let’s forget all the Diana malarkey and honour a woman who works hard and has supported the Royal Family. Like any other children whose parent was divorced and widowed , I am sure that William and Harry are simply pleased that their father has found some happiness.

aggie Wed 12-Oct-22 08:30:35

The Queen Mother was Queen consort, as were all the previous spouses of crowned British Kings , all had coronations

merlotgran Wed 12-Oct-22 08:42:00

It’s an ‘add on’ part of the ceremony after the king has been crowned to acknowledge the Queen consort’s position.

She deserves it for her strength and resilience after all the crap that’s been hurled at her and possibly more to come when Harry’s Booky Wook is published.

Sparklefizz Wed 12-Oct-22 08:55:36

I have given up caring when there's so much else going on.

Quite simply my view of Charles I am not asking anyone to agree with me.

Lets forget all the Diana malarkey! Unbelievable!

growstuff Wed 12-Oct-22 08:58:20

I don't care that much, but I do find the attitudes towards Camilla quite disturbing.

Why would it be difficult?

Lots of adults, myself included have really good relationships with our step parents or former step parents. People manage to have successful functional relationships with people even in spite of death and trauma. I can't see how William and Harry can't be the same?

JaneJudge Wed 12-Oct-22 09:02:02

Diana died 25 years ago and she and Charles had divorced. I can't see how anyone has forgotten.

I don't care either way re Camilla having a crown btw

Elegran Wed 12-Oct-22 09:08:46

Every legal wife of a king at his coronation has been crowned with him. Philip wasn't, but I think that was a break from tradition. Historically a man marrying a woman who was Queen in her own right became the King (and tended to take over from his wife) and it made a movingly dramatic moment when he was the first of the peers to step forward and pay homage.

Camilla is the legal wife of King Charles. They were married after he became a widow.

Does anyone really believe that all previous royal couples were both snow-white virgins when they walked down the aisle together?

Urmstongran Wed 12-Oct-22 09:10:10

For me.
Either way ...

25Avalon Wed 12-Oct-22 09:12:24

I think it’s what her late majesty wanted. I never like Camilla but she has been a great stay to Charles and will give him stability. I think the late Queen saw that.

lixy Wed 12-Oct-22 09:12:28

As Humbertbear said, it was planned by the late Queen and so is nothing new. Why the outcry now?
Other things to think about I'm afraid.

lemsip Wed 12-Oct-22 09:13:30

I don't like the fact she is being crowned queen consort,
I think there will be some boos in the street by many who are not happy!

Zoejory Wed 12-Oct-22 09:16:06

Nobody will boo. She's the King's wife. She'll be crowned. Quite normal
