If this was a natal born woman standing for election would it be acceptable to tolerated.

Sheffields prospective Labour MP

MerylStreep Mon 17-Oct-22 12:36:55

If anyone had bothered to read the interview with Bruce Jenner they would see ( hopefully) that that remark was taken completely out of context. He was referring to his own problem
He explained that he has no inherent sense of style and wanted to get the look right.
I’m sure lots of us have seen trans who just don’t get the look.
Bruce wanted to make sure he did.

One of the funniest people I have ever seen. The policies she believes in are Labour party policies. Why shouldn't there be a trans MP?
Given the natal woman we have as PM currently I know which I prefer.

Sigh.

Nobody has said that we shouldn't have a trans MP. We are saying that an MP who insists on using women's facilities, gets minders to keep cavey, (meaning that actual women are inconvenienced) and who shouts at teenage girls who question a man in the Ladies is probably not going to represent his female constituents very effectively.

Wyllow, I agree that the teacher image is irrelevant on this occasion, but not that people are objecting to Izzard because of 'how he looks'. He can look how he likes - in fact when he used to say that he didn't wear women's clothes, they were just clothes usually worn by women, I agreed with him and thought he was trailblazing. Pretending to be a woman is a different kettle of fish though.

EI looks quite conservatively dressed in comparison to this trans woman teacher from Ontario. The photo was taken whilst they were teaching a class of 12th grader pupils woodwork lessons.

I saw that image, does any biological woman have breasts that large shock Obviously this person has some sort of fetish but why does that have to be indulged in the school where they are teaching, I'm sure some of the students will be uncomfortable, many will snigger and what of female pupils? does such a parody not ridicule the female form sad

Speaking of Jamie Wallis -

Why shouldn't there be a trans MP I thought we already did, Jamie Wallis?

I've heard he has some stiff opposition anyway

FarNorth Sun 16-Oct-22 22:18:14

It's not about looks.
It's about men claiming to be women.

Wyllow3 Sun 16-Oct-22 22:13:18

Given the present political situation, isn't it about time we started talking abut policies local and national instead of this endless obsession with how someone looks?

This is an example of using an irrelevant extreme image to prove a point about someone who is completely different who has nothing to do with the person in the photo.

But which Eddie? ?

^Im still irritated by Bruce Jenner saying the most difficult thing about being s woman was deciding what to wear in the morning.

Me too! Grrr! Bruce/Caitlyn has conveniently avoided periods, PMS, childbirth and the menopause.^

I don't usually get involved in these trans debates, but feel I need to here. I think a lot of statements by trans women are ridiculous. What does saying ' I feel like a woman' mean?'. How does anyone know what a gendered feeling is.
And for Caitlyn Jenner to say the above does her and trans women no favours. And yes, missing periods and menopause is very convenient. I don't include child birth as I found it a lovely experience.

Wyllow3 Sun 16-Oct-22 19:25:23

No, because I was clear up thread..

as in, lots of opportunity there on terms of choice for the seat to represent different communities which are under represented in terms of MP's over S Yorks area generally and where is all the stuff on THEM on Social Meja? I'm fed up of this usual obsession on this particular person please see the wider picture.

Seconded grin

Typical gransnet dislike of anything unconventional.

I must have missed this post on the 12th.

Izzard can be as unconventional as he likes, and I wouldn't care as long as he was not lying about being a woman.
Even then, as someone outside Sheffield, I wouldn't care about it if he was the only man lying in that way but he isn't - he's a representation of what's happening UK-wide.

I can't see any problem with him standing for election based on this photograph. At the very least he is honest about who he is. Unlike a lot of politians.

He's not being honest though - he's standing as a woman candidate when he is a man.

Like many men who enjoy LARPing as women , he is a misogynist and has no respect for women or for women's rights, so not the right type of individual to be an MP at all.

Wyllow3 Sun 16-Oct-22 08:43:33

FarNorth

But Izzard is parodying a woman and being widely praised for it.
He's never had such adoration lavished on him before.

Reports of adoration are greatly exaggerated speaking as an insider.

I have reported my own post, and hopefully GNHQ will remove it.

Sorry folks

Thank you.

If someone had parodied a black candidate there would have been outrage nowadays....
tho once acceptable. ....
ditto women, or ditto some kinds of disability.

We need a bit of amusement in politics (RIP Lord Sutch) but at the moment things are beyond a joke. Truss, Braverman, Rees-Mogg ....need I say more?
