I haven't thought much about him in politics but I have to say...
In general:
I don't stop respecting people just because I have seen them in their pants
How did you vote and why today

I am afraid ignoring the consent of teenage girls is as high on my no no list as all the things you have described. Oh and the homophobia obviously.

What is so special about Eddie Izzard standing for election? I would treat her like any other candidate.
I would read the manifestos of all the parties. If he was standing for the party I supported I would look at what he has said, his history, if any in public service - local government, charitable work etc etc, look at the other candidates and then decide.
100% agree.

I can’t get past the words “natal born woman”. Surely that is a tautology. The word woman suffices.
Just covering all bases, there are lots of posters on GN with differing ideas of what is a woman
Indeed there are.
Not to mention, I'd much rather EI who is open about his predilictions than some of the others we've had (adultery while wife was having cancer treatement, use of prostitues, accepting bribes from corrupt foreign politcians, sex with teenagers while wife was pregnant).
Apparently Labour will not be using all-women shortlists for Westminster elections, so Izzard can't be on one.
Of course a shortlist might be all-women, by coincidence, just as it might be all-men.

Glenda Jackson morphed into (an astonishing) King Lear at one point.
That was acting.
Izzard claims to be a real-life girl/woman.
That shows self-delusion and complete disregard for the rights of real girls and women.
I think his own description of his interaction with the teenage girls is enough to indicate who he is as a man.

He's standing for selection as a candidate, Monica, not as an election candidate. I do hope that it's not on an all women shortlist...

EI would be able to converse in French and German, is working on his Spanish plus tackling Russian whilst on tour. He would be a useful ambassador abroad, although Antisam Mohammod would have the drop on him in Sheffield for sure.
I thought the Eddie Izzard photo was of a past stage performance, that’s why I made the comparison with Glenda Jackson.
Sorry.

I think he should just stick to whatever it is he’s good at.
Chasing 3 teenage girls out of a woman's toilet because they questioned what he, a man, was doing there? He's been ever so proud of that since. Or maybe his beauty tips that 'boy nails' are so much stronger than 'girl nails' so that's why his are so lovely. Hmm he's a 'girl' with 'boy nails' but presumably a 'lady penis'. Confused?
As I understand it this is not yet certain that Eddie Issard will be chosen as the candidate. A local woman, a Labour councillor, Abtisam Mohammod, would also like to be the Labour candidate. She has been working for the local community, whereas EI has not lived there for many years.
Should a "celebrity " be parachuted in over a local person?
I think he should just stick to whatever it is he’s good at.
I don't think having a floating gender persona is conducive to being taken seriously as a prospective MP. With that in mind, I what I find truly ridiculous is Eddy Izzard describing himself as a "girl" the definition of which is child/young adolescent/teenager. Somehow that term a bit like "lady" is a coy, facile way of describing an adult woman of mature years who has no doubt been through a whole gamut of physical stages to reach that time of her life. Not a girl, we aren't bits of fluff who live to stride around in short skirts and vertiginous heels only concerned with what amounts to a very one dimensional outward appearance, there's a whole lot of stuff going on in the inside physically, if you did but know it Eddie, but how could you because you aren't, and never will be a woman and quite honestly whilst pantomime dames are just about ok on the stage in real life they diminish women by presenting an exaggerated parody.
Whilst Glenda Jackson made some edgy films for the time, that wasn't real life it was acting. I wouldn't make a comparison between her and EI, once she stepped back from the film and stage she threw herself into her role as an MP, not that I think he wouldn't do that too, nevertheless all the posturing would be very off putting to some constituents not to mention many women would just see it as another nail in the coffin. I believe Rosie Duffield the Labour MP for Canterbury has said she would resign her seat if EI is selected from an all women short list.

Tbf, I think Izzard would take the job of MP seriously and may well be better than many of the bunch who are there now.
The glaring flaw is that his claim to be a 'girl' and everything following from that, contributes to the removal of rights from actual girls and women.
I wouldn't support him for that reason.
I agree 100%
I can't see any problem with him standing for election based on this photograph. At the very least he is honest about who he is. Unlike a lot of politians.
Kellie-Jay is a powerful speaker.
I’ve seen on Twitter that Kellie-Jay Keen (Posie Parker) has said that if EI is selected as a prospective Labour candidate, she will stand as an Independent against him. That would make for interesting times ?
Elected= selected
Dear me?

Well obviously it's up to voters if he becomes a candidate right?
Umm, no I don’t think so.
I didn’t know how it worked so. Just looked it up. I have to say the Labour Party website is a bit woolly about how you get selected but I think it’s just up to the Selection Committee of the constituency.
I did say that if that is “small” ? members from the National Executive would also attend.
Now I may have misunderstood some of that and I’m more than happy to be corrected, but clearly “voters” have got nothing to do with it.
Julie Bindel attended Izzard’s recent meeting in Sheffield. You may find her podcast interesting
