I wonder if she’s going to sack Kwasi Kwarteng in an attempt to save her own skin.

Then he will definitely be the shortest serving chancellor??

You prompted me to look. I didn't calculate the exact lengths but I was surprised to find out that a month is not unknown.

I meant Hunt, given that Truss isn’t expected to last the week?

Sparklefizz Fri 14-Oct-22 15:37:49

Well, I emailed my MP this morning giving my opinion that Truss and Kwarteng had to go. By lunchtime Kwarteng had been sacked! Who knew I was so influential??? grin
Just waiting for Truss to join him.

So, it is HUNT! Bluddy hell. This gets worse.
Mind you he’s a Remainer so many will forgive him if he missteps.

I'm a Remainer, and I won't give him an inch.

... or 2.54 cms grin.

Soon there’ll be a new record set for the most cabinet ministers ever to now be lowly backbenchers…

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Oct-22 16:21:57

Hunt, that well known experienced economist......

MayBee70 Fri 14-Oct-22 16:24:11

They can’t just appoint Mordaunt and Sunak as ‘ unifiers’ ( or whatever term they used) can they?

grannydarkhair Fri 14-Oct-22 16:24:26

I have this mental image of Truss sitting looking at a list of Conservative MPs going “ eeny, meeny, miny, moe”. Or maybe she pins names to a dartboard?

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Oct-22 16:27:50

Mordaunt and Sunak - preference for now, while we arrange a GE asap.

JenniferEccles Fri 14-Oct-22 16:27:54

I had a horrible feeling they would rue the day they got rid of Boris.

Fleurpepper Fri 14-Oct-22 16:28:24

A bit of Voodoo will prove magical, I am sure!

Explain to me how Boris and Truss were remainers and you accept that ?

I had a horrible feeling they would rue the day they got rid of Boris.

But they couldn’t go on as they were with him, look at the scandal that simply grew and grew.

Btw is he still living in chequers. If so - why and how?

notgran Fri 14-Oct-22 16:33:44

All these Chancellors. My washing up liquid has lasted longer than the last 3 have.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Oct-22 16:43:21

He had to leave Chequers when Truss took office. He was totally discredited in terms of integrity/trust except for the loyal few and he certainly had NO ideas how to cope with current situation. He nor only dragged replacing himself then swanned away on holiday and this certainly made things a lot worse
how on earth can anyone want him back

I agree Lucca that historically they were Remainers but Boris did his ‘pros & cons’ list and decided to throw his hat on the Brexit bus. Truss probably just flip flopped as seems to be her character but came down hard (for a while) negotiating hard with the EU about checks on NI.

Hunt however is and has always been a staunch Remainer. He’s probably got his pal Eeyore Hammond ‘spreadsheet Phil’ on speed dial to run things fiscal and French (EU) past him.

Many MP’s will be delighted tonight. It’s ‘business as usual’.
More of the same from sleek Mr Continuity.

By the way for those who don’t know (or have forgotten), Hunt is the nephew of Virginia Bottomley. Remember her? It’s in his DNA folks.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Oct-22 17:04:20

From the Indy (1994) when Bottomley was Health Secretary:

“THE CONSULTANT cancer surgeon poked his head round the door: 'D'you know the anagram of Virginia Bottomley?' he asked, scowling.

'Main vile Tory bigot.' And then he went back to cancel some more admissions, because all the operating theatres in his London teaching hospital are now closed one week in every six.

volver Fri 14-Oct-22 17:06:11

????

I had something else written but decided I might get banned if I posted it.

I would now like to declare that I am genetically a Remainer.

Lucca Fri 14-Oct-22 17:06:12

Oh historically ! That’s OK then

Who is mr continuity ?

Urmstongran Fri 14-Oct-22 17:10:34

Hunt.

Boz Fri 14-Oct-22 17:11:56

You have to laugh.
This all goes back to Brexit and Boris filling his cabinet with incompetents like Truss and Kwarteng.
As we’ve seen, getting Brexit done has barely started, caused untold damage to the country and left us with a cabinet that can barely function.
Well done all who voted for it!

Normandygirl Fri 14-Oct-22 17:35:17

How she has the gall to stand there spouting the importance of "economic stability" after the disastrous economic crash she and her wingman brought about is astounding.
She has u turned on every policy to the point of having no policy left, she needs to go today.

Fleurpepper Fri 14-Oct-22 17:37:10

This was shared before, but needs to be shared again in this context, Boz.

Boz Fri 14-Oct-22 17:48:09

Well, Labour's getting my vote at the GE. I am a comfortably off voter who has had enough of a Party that took us into Brexit
with lies and false promises. Throughout my life, the Party I vote for is the winner. So be afraid, Ms Truss et al, be very afraid.
