Is the UK really a high tax country?

Tax as a percentage of GDP in 35 countries shows the UK, with a ratio of 33% ranked 23 with a ratio slightly below the average . The country with the highest ratio was Denmark at 46.3% and the lowest Mexico at 16.5%.

The dataset used for this graphic looks at 35 of the 37 OECD countries, since recent data for Australia and Japan was not available.

Yes, but if Tories keep on stating that we are very highly taxed then that becomes accepted wisdom.
The whole attitude to tax in this country is wrong, in my opinion, we should be proud to contribute to our country, not scrabble to find ways to avoid paying .

A survey done a few years ago showed that the British population, far from being obsessed with lower taxes, were happy to pay more in tax, if we got value for money and good education, health service and social justice.

The Conservatives under Johnson/Truss are like Labour under Corbyn, in the hands of an extreme minority who have seized the levers of power to push their own extreme policies, even though there is no support for them, either within their own party, nor within the wider electorate.

Like Labour under Corbyn, they will meet their nemesis at the next election, when hopefully they will be kicked out.

My comparison is not original, lots of people are making it.
