I can't really think of anyone I would want to be Prime Minister. The whole world must be having a laugh at this country. I can see lots of trouble brewing, because the public are so sick of all the scandals which are happening in Parliament.

I'm wondering if any MPs suffer from shy Tory syndrome in some way.

Do they have to publicly state who they will.support?

Many Conservative voters will claim to be voting anyway but Tory which explains some of the misleading polls we see.

I think the back stabber Sunak is going to win unfortunately, its a done deal imop. He's who the MPs wanted but the party voted for Liz Truss. I think they know he has the promised 150 MPs willing to vote for him and that's why 150 is the magic winning number.

Farzanah, yu were right. Wallace is backing Boris. He has plummetted in my estimation.

Of course he could have just said that to get the endless pleading phone calls from other candidates to go away. It also means he will probably be able to keep his job as Defence Secretary, whoever ends up as winner. That can only be a good thing.

Half the Tory party hate Sunak and the other half hate Johnson.

They are not going to show a United front for more than 5 minutes.

It will be all sweetness and light to begin with but there are too many grudges and paybacks to keep the party United.

The list of Johnson’s misdemeanours in government is so long perhaps too numerous for backers to remember. Plus the fact he is still the subject of a Privileges Committee Investigation.
He did his best in government to devalue Brand Conservative, and it seems for supporters to back him for leader again is an act of self immolation.

He has NOT backed him but he has not ruled him out. He was very specific on that point. It was raised with him.

There is another very important aspect just discussed on the World at 1. It was the report on the international reaction to current UK events. Apart from the laughing stock factor, there are genuine serious concerns about the UK having someone credible to work with internationally.

Boris Johnson was quite prepared to flout international law to try get round the NI difficulties. it has not been forgotten. If we cannot work together under reasonable international laws as collectives of democracies then we are inviting the further rising of power of dictators as in Russia and China.

That is what he is remembered for. that's his "Rep" when it comes to really serious issues. And his credibility abroad was also undermined by the charges brought against him and the way he U turned when his mates got into trouble.

Now there is respect for the UK in regard to its part in the war in Ukraine, but there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that any other Tory or indeed Labour Party/Lib/Dems/ Scots Nats leader have any attitude or policy different from BJ. The other front runners would absolutely continue the same policy under the guiding hand of Ben Wallace.

Yes, Mr A, Mrs B or Ms C as in a number of individuals may indeed hanker for BJ back:

but we are kidding ourselves if we think there is a whole emotional wave of the British Public (who were disgusted by his lack of integrity - losing by elections like there was no tomorrow) - and brought about his resignation after pressure on their MP's - want to see him back.

The markets (you know, the ones that did for Truss's budget) don't seem to like the idea of Johnson. The pound is falling and gilt yields are up (that's bad)

I know we are meant to be polite here, but honestly- how anyone can want to bring back Johnson and be of sound mind, is just impossible to even think about.

If he is brought back, 100s of 1000s of us will take to the streets, me included.

It is just beyong belief that the new PM could be chosen by Monday, and we still do not know who is actually standing!

The whole world watches in disbelief and the country is now, more than ever, the laughing stock. How sad and tragic.

I've popped over to the forum I check on at times like this. They are elderly, mainly male and almost without exception Johnson and very Brexit voters to date. So far, they sound pretty fed up. Someone even dared to say they would vote for Keir Starmer (which led to an attack on KS's wife). In normal circumstances this would get him kicked out (racism is ok though.)

There was a big bit on "the Migrants" which included the laziness of the British worker, but they seem to have given up on "anything" being done. They are very flattened by it all as far as I can see.

They said over and over again that there would only be a coronation if a candidate received 150 of 357 possible votes.

Obviously confusion abounds.

I don’t think it’s confusion, if one person got 100 votes out of 357, then at least one other person would get over 100 as well so there would be a contest. There’s a tipping point, so 2 people could get 99 votes each, and the other could get 159, in which case it would be uncontested after round 1. Does that make more sense?

I understand that several Conservative MPs have said that if BJ is elected they will stand down, triggering a raft of by- elections. Conservative supporters would be very, very unwise to open that bag.
