What do I mean THE general election!
Maybe if we think it's inevitable we would help to generate hate of this evil political party.

There has to be. Not only do the electorate have no say in who’s PM but they have no idea what the current government stands for. They’ve ignored their promise regarding fracking for a start.
I am absolutely furious that they haven’t called a GE. They say it’s not a presidential systems (true) yet Truss came in and totally scrapped the 2019 manifesto pledges - on which the Tories won the last GE. She implemented her own ideological nonsense, surrounded herself with like-minded sycophants and ignored anyone who disagreed with her - including the British public. Sounds like the actions of a dictator to me, never mind a president! Either the PM is all-powerful or she/he isn’t. If she/he isn’t then how were Johnson and Truss allowed to get away with so much - they should have been challenged by their colleagues. If the PM is all-powerful then, in a democracy, the choice of a new PM should not be down to 1% of the population - and a very particular 1% at that. WE NEED A GENERAL ELECTION. Let the people decide!
Totally agree LizzieDrip.
In this country we do the leaders of our political parties are, quite rightly, chosen by those parties.
But while it is impossible for a political party to stick obsessively to every policy announced in its manifesto, Circumstances and events can change things drastically. It is not reasonable for a new mid-term appointed Prime Minister, to throw the manifesto the government was elected onout of the window, and bring in their own personal slate of policies. This is what Liz Truss and her colleagues did.
Unfortunately we are a Parliamentary Democracy
We the electorate elect our own constituency MP, the Party with the most MP’s is then in a position to form a Government.
The electorate doesn’t elect the PM, that is down to the party in power.
No matter how many of us want a GE (me included) unless enough Conservative MP’s resign the whip or cross the floor, whilst they are in the majority they do not have to call a GE according to the current system/laws
Obviously the opposition parties and their followers want a General Election and have wanted one since they lost the last one.
And if and when the Conservatives are in opposition they will keep banging on about another General Election as well.
‘Twas ever thus.
How ever much we want one, it isn't going to happen.

How ever much we want one, it isn't going to happen.
Totally agree, not a hope.
I think that there will be a GE soon, just not quite as quickly as the public want it. The best thing that could happen now to force it soon would be Johnson winning the party leadership contest. He’s lost public confidence apart from numbskulls, and him leading will mean that the divisions in the party won’t heal - leading to a general election within 6 months. I’d be more concerned if Sunak wins, because I think he’s an able politician, and will play the members who don’t support him better to achieve more unity.
Hmm Maudi: maybe Starmer and Sturgeon are representing the views of the people. We can't have that, now, can we?
Whether you think they are or not is irrelevant there will not be a general election anytime soon.
God forbid that the voice of the people is heard in this sham of a democracy!
Maudi
Whether you think they are or not is irrelevant there will not be a general election anytime soon.
You mean that you don’t think there will be a general election soon Maudi, not that there won’t be.
One more who agrees 100% with Lizziegrip.
Whatever your views please don’t describe people or the parties they support as “evil.” There are many truly evil people unfortunately but they’re not in the Houses of Parliament.
"Polling by YouGov has indicated that if a snap general election were called, the SNP would be the official party of opposition in Westminster following a crushing defeat for the Tories.
This is based on opinion polling for the UK and Scotland which shows Labour would win 529 seats with a majority of 408, the SNP would become the second largest party with 51 seats and the Tories would be relegated to third having won only 30 seats.
YouGov General Election projection Labour majority SNP majority Scotland
Even if an independence referendum was not granted before a general election, there is simply no way it can be denied if the SNP forms the Official Opposition and is the second largest party in the House of Commons. However, if there were a snap election the SNP would fight it on an independence platform so their MPs would only be going to Westminster to negotiate the terms of independence.
Our calculations are based on two polls conducted by YouGov at the beginning of October of UK-wide and Scottish voting intention at Westminster. When the results of these polls are converted to Westminster seats, some interesting things happen:
Labour wins a landslide victory with 529 seats and a 326-seat majority in the House of Commons.
The Tories would experience a total collapse, with their seats dropping from 365 to just 30.
The SNP would win a massive landslide of 51 seats in Parliament, overtaking the Tories in Westminster.
The Lib Dems would only win 16 seats.
This means that the SNP would in fact be the second largest party in the UK Parliament and would form the Official Opposition."
Perhaps the above is the reason why there is such opposition to a snap GE. The UK media has a tendency to focus on only what is happening in England and between the two "main" parties. Even this report, fails to mention Plaid, or the Greens - both Independence supporting parties, who might pick up a few seats.
