Feeling strangely, quietly, a little bit optimistic

I am astonished that people can feel at all 'optimistic;.

All we have is a reshuffle of the same people who ensured that the UK is in the mess that it is in/

The same people who want to - turn back the dinguies;, send people to Rwanda, assured the privatisation of the NHS, cut back on nurse and doctor training, cut the police force, have forced people like teachers, firemen, postal workers, nurses, social care workers, etc. etc. to take dramatic wage cuts.

I know we like to try to be optimistic - but sadly - reality means this lot, albeit in their different posts, will ensure it get a lot worse

Sarcasm is often witty though.

It is the way of the world now sadly nanny19 and sarcasm is often mistaken for wit.

That means reading news, looking at articles online and on tv and making your informed decision C123 but this optimistic feeling is that really, no hard evidence as yet, although the money markets are looking brighter for the UK.

Of course politicians are not beyond criticism or reproach and should not be allowed to continue in office if they are inadequate in there post as MP. What I find unpleasant is the way they are criticized. The mockery and sarcasm is unnecessary. I hear it from MPs in the House of Commons, the belittling, the degradation of personalities, the destruction of them as people and now to me reading some of your replies.

I know what you mean HousePlantQueen. I don't think next year will be great but maybe we will start to see the end of personality politics.

I feel more optimistic too, though of course there are many problems here and in the rest of the world.

To really put things right we need to go back in the EU. Small businesses are losing European customers, and those that can are moving setting up in European locations to avoid customs and paperwork. One small niche tea company at a trade fair heard her potential customers saying ‘It’s not worth going there’ (to her stand). So she has negotiated a distributor in the EU - but she has to pay the distributor a percentage of sales. A larger company making chemical has relocated their whole operation to Poland, taking jobs and profits away from the UK.
Another small company a two person jewellery concern, does not have the capacity to overcome the beauracracy and is hanging on by its fingertips.
We were lied to in the most reprehensible way by (mostly) wealthy politicians who see Brexit as an ideal opportunity to abandon workers rights, dip below EU safety standards and sit comfortably with their execrable snouts in the trough while the rest of us pay the price

Hunt and Sunk are a nightmare combination, both want the end of the NHS, but Sunak will do it in a more subtle way. And Braverman is a disaster to anyone who cares about people from foreign lands needing sanctuary. I can't wait to get all the Tories out, as we'll see in a few weeks I'm sure

I find so many comments here unpleasant. I am a supporter of Boris Johnstone. Mistakes that were made under his leadership were blown out of proportion and contained mockery of him as Prime Minister by the media including the BBC. To continue with such remarks and now of Liz Truss is disdainful. What happened to kindness and tolerance where it is recognized, that people including politicians work hard and do their best, and yes sometimes get it wrong.

Politicians have to make hard decisions, of course. But I find it unforgivable that BJ missed meetings early on in the Coronavirus Pandemic - that he acted with brevity "shaking hands" - and was then seriously ill with Covid - oh, I could go on and on. He, in my opinion, deserves all the mockery that can be thrown at him. "Let the bodies pile high" - so wrong in so many ways and so many times. And when I see Conservative politicians lay the vaccines as being Boris's success story I rage - the complacency of thinking that no other Government or Party could have done the same - or better -

Politicians don't get elected for us to cut them some slack and be nice to them.

They get elected to run the country with integrity and talent and to take responsibility when things go wrong due to their egregiously wrong policies.

I think a big proportion of people have forgotten how politicians are meant to act and what they are there for.
