why so many different lecterns?

Wouldn't it be more sensible just to have a 'Number 10 Lectern'?

aggie Tue 25-Oct-22 10:13:49

Are they different heights ? I haven’t noticed , a permanent one would be in the way of day to day goings on

Urmstongran Tue 25-Oct-22 10:17:34

I thought that too kittylester.
Shows how easy it is to spend other people’s money. I thought ‘times were hard’?
Only for some it seems.

Yes, I agree, though I did like the design on Liz Truss’ Lectern…

Grannynannywanny Tue 25-Oct-22 10:27:59

I heard a tv commentator mention yesterday that we are likely to see a different lectern as each PM likes to choose their own. ?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Oct-22 10:32:36

Yes spending other peoples money has become a fine art in Tory-land.

Party central at chequers this weekend. Even if -and it’s a big if- Truss paid for the food and drink, presumably we picked up the tab for staff, energy, cleaning, laundry etc.

They have NO idea how to manage (other peoples) money do they? Like all this decorating lark at No 10-i agree «state» rooms should look good but all the rest should be like service homes-just a coat of paint!

It said this morning the lecturn is changed to allow for different heights. Maybe they could provide Sunak with a step or someone tall has a block put under the lectern. I meant to raise the height not for putting their chin on.

Not a permanently sited one but just one specific for no 10.

He could use the one I use to reach into kitchen cupboards that was for the children to use the toilet. There’s very cheap and easily transportable.

It does make sense to have a few of differing heights. They can be kept for very many years after all, and used time and time again.I was not observant enough to realise that it was not the same lecturn. It is not as if they are studded with diamonds after all.

Charleygirl5 Tue 25-Oct-22 13:05:36

One is more than sufficient if it could be adjusted to different heights. I had no idea each PM could choose his or her own- no wonder we have little money.

Ro60 Tue 25-Oct-22 13:36:24

That was my first though when they mentioned it this morning on TV. I've never considered they would each have their own - but of course ?
Truss's was very fancy & I'm glad to see Sunak's is more robust & austere. Let's hope that says something.
Yes, they should go for a one-size-fits-all. - Like the Budget Briefcases - even though it was replaced a few years back.

He's only a little chap after all!

Ro60 Tue 25-Oct-22 13:37:52

I hope Sunak likes Johnson's choice in wallpaper - talking about spending our money.

Aveline Tue 25-Oct-22 13:39:48

It's a Downing Street thing. All the staff have one...

I wonder if Truss has started stripping, the wallpaper that is.
