Braverman's behaviour in parliament today proves nothing has changed.

Suella Braverman scuttling out of the commons today to avoid scrutiny is a clear indication that nothing has changed with the Tories. The question from Yvette Cooper was tabled in plenty of time so she has no excuses. The fact that she walked out in full view of the speaker doesn't enhance his reputation either.

It says today that the government are asking people to house illegal migrants in their own homes until they are processed through the asylum system. So I am supposing all those on here in favour of them coming will be signing up to house these poor unfortunates in their own homes. Makes sense surely. Double win and putting your money where your mouths are.

Interesting post GG13 thank you.

I read the Daily Fail (!) as well as the Telegraph.

Today in the Mail:
“An investigation was launched by the Government Security Group, a little-publicised unit within the Cabinet Office. As the leak involved an issue of national security, it is understood that MI5 also had a role in the inquiry. The Mail understands that the investigation ultimately found no 'conclusive evidence' of who the leaker was.”

As an aside I have never described Labour supporters on here as ‘rabid’ no matter how very strongly they hold their views.

Jake Berry needs to put up or shut up. In my opinion.
Seems then he’s ‘been told’ about infringements. Not personally witnessed them.

His wiki page is interesting.

It says - oh the horror - it says (gulp).....

He was a remainer!

Oh no, our democracy is under siege.

(He also appears to be a dick, but that goes for the entire Tory government since 2019, as far as I can see.)

The cabinet secretary, is deeply unhappy over Braverman’s reinstatement.

We were once a country of principles.

Remember those Nolan principles?

Hunt is clearly not happy over then appointment. But implied that without Braverman in the government the Tory government would not be United.

Unquestionably it was a stitch-up.

Urmstongran Thu 27-Oct-22 08:54:16

As Denmark do, do you mean?

We are a soft touch and it’s costing us all millions of pounds putting them up in hotels. Admittedly some migrants are genuine cases which is fair enough and they deserve our compassion.

So let’s send them all to Rwanda for ‘ processing’. Which means that if they’re proven to be genuine refugees they still have to stay in Rwanda I believe.

Is Suella Braverman your new hate figure now Boris has gone par for the course I suppose with Labour they have no policies only hate.

Have you not heard the vile things that come out of Braverman’s mouth? I have a dream of seeing plane loads of refugees being sent to Rwanda ( or words to that effect?). I don’t recall anyone in Labour saying anything like that. And Sunaks own advisor told him that she was a danger to the security of this country! Does that not concern you?

Why are Albanian thugs coming to the UK?!

Cannabis farms.
They grow masses of the stuff in their own country ( fields and fields of it)
Then that harvest has to exported ( at a slight risk ?)
So, why not bring the farmers here.

She does seem to be the attack point, but I do think there is evidence of frequent wrongdoing. It doesn't say much about your knowledge that you cannot see the policies the LP have or the fact they are in opposition, not government. UG's post which is equally biased against the Labour Party. We are still seeing Party before country, both in parliament and on these boards. It comes from both extremes.

If, as it seems they may have done, the ERG three in the cabinet used the election of the Leader of the Conservative party (or rather the need for no election) to get their positions, they will have played their last card. They are now open to regular scrutiny. I would have thought one of the committees would be the process used to call SB to account.

The asylum system is in crisis. It is SB's job to sort it out. I very much doubt that she can do that. One way or another Braverman will be out. She has now lost all leverage that would stop that from happening.

Politicians should not be allowed to be a member of a lobby group while also a member of a party. I thought there was already a rule on this.

PR would help of course.

Sir Jake Berry - who Mr Sunak fired from his post two days ago - told TalkTV: "From my own knowledge, there were multiple breaches of the ministerial code."

Braverman is a dangerous loose cannon. She is entrusted with some of the most sensitive and high risk information in the country. The more rabid Tory supporters on here are failing to separate the woman from the job.

Urmstongran Thu 27-Oct-22 08:27:12

Haha! And Labour are squeaky clean. Not.

As Starmer has Peter Mandelson as an advisor, someone who had to resign from the Cabinet twice - it's just more hypocrisy from the man who shouts about 'integrity.'

Petera Thu 27-Oct-22 08:25:18

Urmstongran Braverman’s mild infringement using her personal email to amend an urgent document was ideal for her to ‘resign’ over.

She firstly sent the document to her private email as she knew she was going to send it on to someone who didn't have the clearance to see it and couldn't do it from her government email. She then shared it and also sent it to someone who she thought (thought!) was the correspondent’s wife but it turned out not to be. She the lied about the process to the Prime Minister.

So, I agree with you UG, in the scale of behaviour of the Tories this is just a mild infringement.

Grannynannywanny Thu 27-Oct-22 08:24:47

It was reported on BBC news this morning that Jake Berry Conservative Party chairman, who was in post until a few days ago, has said Suella Braverman committed several “serious” breaches of the ministerial code.
It sounds like it’s more than a minor infringement they’re trying to sweep under the carpet.

Maudi Thu 27-Oct-22 08:20:14

Two dinghies with God knows who on board arrived on the Kent coast a few days ago and they disappeared into the countryside, I would have thought that anyone with any sense would think that they were a security risk not Suella Braverman who is trying to stop them.

Drugs, prostitution, people trafficking. Huge profits in the misery industry according to reports.

mumofmadboys Thu 27-Oct-22 08:04:53

I do not hate Braverman, I hated the speech she made saying she couldnt wait to see the first plane going to Rwanda.

Urmstongran Thu 27-Oct-22 08:01:08

Braverman seriously wants to tackle the Channel migrants. So many Albanian thugs coming over. The rise is exponential - 800 last year, 12,000 this year according to the Home Office. She gets my vote but will be up against The Blob. She says when she gets trolled on Twitter she knows she’s doing what the majority of taxpayers want! Mind you Pritti Patel couldn’t get things done and maybe Braverman will be up against it too. We will have to wait and see.

Braverman fell out with Truss over immigration. Truss was watering down proposals. Braverman’s mild infringement using her personal email to amend an urgent document was ideal for her to ‘resign’ over. She said she certainly couldn’t go along with what Truss was capitulating on.

This will be an interesting time to see how Braverman deals with issues.

I have no feelings regarding Braverman.

However, I do expect members of parliament and in particular government not to be a security risk to my country.

I think that we are all entitled to expect that.

Exactly so. Maudi, it seems to me you’re projecting your feelings on to the LP. The LP does have policies, a recognised belief system. You don’t share them.

The word hate is thrown around with absolutely no meaning at the moment. Criticising someone or asking questions is not hate.
