Beggars belief!

I watch Strictly to cheer me up.

My standards are to do with forgiving useless politicians whose policies lead to the deaths of thousands, just because they eat unspeakable things with aplomb.

Smileless2012 Sat 12-Nov-22 18:18:18

No one's said they forgive him but if people do, that's their choice as it is yours not too.

maddyone Sat 12-Nov-22 18:24:54

Well obviously Matt Hancock shouldn’t be there in the first place, he should be working at his job of being an MP. Having said that, he is there, and so people will form a view of him in that particular situation. That’s to be expected. And I’m watching it.

Chestnut Sat 12-Nov-22 18:35:33

It would take a lot more than a few antics in the jungle before I made any decision on MH. Forgiveness only comes after admitting your mistakes, genuine apology, and genuine remorse. We also need to understand both sides of the story. Maybe there will be some revelations in his forthcoming book, things we don't know about at the moment, things that might change our opinion. I don't know and neither does anyone else at the moment.

volver Sat 12-Nov-22 18:44:35

He'd have to have a bl**dy good excuse for how he acted.

Both sides of the story? When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

Everybody on this programme, including Boy George and Matt Hancock are manipulating both viewers and other contestants. Being tearful, emotional, always plays well, as does being in love and asking forgiveness for something.
Each person is doing their utmost to win.

maddyone Sat 12-Nov-22 19:42:52

I suppose in fairness, that if you enter a competition, you want to win.

Smileless2012 Sat 12-Nov-22 21:35:52

Well yes maddyone or there's not much point in entering in the first place.

Lucca Sat 12-Nov-22 22:05:30

Sorry to repeat myself ….it’s NOT to do with whether it’s a silly programme or not, I get that people watch it for fun just like strictly or Corrie etc it’s to do with MH suddenly being a good chap when he made such terrible decisions and should be at work. Lest we forget eh ?

maddyone Sat 12-Nov-22 22:11:13

Each person is doing their utmost to win.

I meant everyone when I said if you enter a competition you want to win Lucca. I wasn’t talking about Matt Hancock specifically. I agree with you, and have said a few times, Matt Hancock shouldn’t be there, he should be at his desk in Parliament. As should have Nadine Dorries when she did it a few years ago.

Chestnut Sat 12-Nov-22 23:43:42

Lucca MH's performance in the jungle is excellent and he is doing really well, but that doesn't make him a good chap, just a good contestant.

The whole jungle experience strips away any defences. Sleeping outside, unpleasant toilet and bathing facilities, limited and odd food but worst of all complete boredom for hours on end with only the prospect of a ghastly trial as a change makes any aspect of a personality hard to hide.
It's that that I most enjoy. Seeing the different personalities emerge and friendships/enmities develop. There's no hiding place for Matt.
Vote Chris tonight.

The food would have finished me off. I would have pleaded vegan but even then you are stuck with beans and rice every evening and disgusting fermented and mouldy stuff for your eating trial. The others have to eat vile slimy creatures daily. My stomach would have been churning and I'd have been permanently throwing up. Just couldn't do it.

Iam64 Sun 13-Nov-22 12:14:54

I don’t know why anyone would want to chestnut. I’m not a vegetarian much less a vegan but seriously - cruelty to insects and rats

maddyone Sun 13-Nov-22 12:35:13

I know, I’m not vegetarian either, but actually eat very little meat of any kind. But I couldn’t eat the things they eat in this programme, far too revolting.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 13-Nov-22 12:36:35

Ok, I do not blame Mart Hancock for everything that happened during the early days of the pandemic.

The entire Government were like rabbits caught in the headlights and were listening to scientists, advisors and no doubt in contact with other Countries Leaders and reacting as opposed to pre-empting.

He is not the only man to have been caught out having an affair at work.

In my opinion he should have resigned as an MP before doing the Bear Grylls programme and I’m A Celebrity.

Now is now and he is in the jungle and committing to each task 100% obviously the general public enjoy seeing him out of his comfort zone and will continue to vote for him to do the tasks.

maddyone Sun 13-Nov-22 12:43:23

I said pretty much the same as that upthread*GrannyGravy.*The whole government made collective decisions and one person cannot be blamed for everything that went wrong. Given the nature of the crisis, I would defy anyone or any other government to have got everything right. It was a novel virus, nobody knew the first thing about it and of course no country or government got everything right. Lots got a lot wrong! Look at New Zealand, lauded on Gransnet but not in New Zealand. Nowhere near enough financial government support and masses of businesses went under. My daughter is currently living in NZ and told me this, so I know it’s true.

I am deeply surprised at how people think being on IACGMOOH is a laudable choice confused.

Surprised, but not bothered.

Except I am bothering to wonder why this is thought to be a suitable pursuit for a serving politician. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bridie22 Sun 13-Nov-22 12:53:05

Could it be the pursuit of money volver🤔?

JaneJudge Sun 13-Nov-22 12:59:30

He is very good at the challenges but he is a snake. I was quite surprised some of the other contestants questioned him so much. It made me feel a bit sick to see a forty year old (plus?) man harping on about 'falling in love' when he had a job to do and wife and two small children at home. Gross

Dinahmo Sun 13-Nov-22 13:04:56

His political career is down the drain. He's supposedly getting £400k for taking part in this tv show, with the aim of bringing dyslexia to the public notice. A bit late since I think - most of us already know about it.

He's doing this with the aim of getting work as a celeb in the future. Portillo mark 2 perhaps. I remember staying up late with a group of friends waiting for Portillo's result and all of us cheering like mad when it was announced. Funnily enough I like now and enjoy all his railway programmes.

JaneJudge Sun 13-Nov-22 13:09:35

400k for 3 weeks work sad

I like the railway programs too.

vegansrock Sun 13-Nov-22 13:15:13

Has dyslexia been mentioned yet?
Wonder how his wife and teenage children feel about him making a fool of himself?

volver Sun 13-Nov-22 13:16:02

David Mellor has a very good program on Classic FM, really knows his stuff. Remember him feeding that burger to his daughter? 🙂

Dinahmo Sun 13-Nov-22 13:16:59

Have some of you forgotten the PPE scandal? Obviously I'm aware that countries the world over were scrambling to obtain the necessary items but MH took the mickey with the handing out of contracts to inexperienced providers. Here's an excerpt from an article from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine

"Yet equally shocking were the stories of how the
procurement process was operated. In one of the most
visible cases, only a fraction of 400 000 gowns
ordered from a Turkish t shirt manufacturer arrived.
When they did arrive they were late, despite the Royal
Air Force being sent to collect them, and they were
found to be unusable. Fifty million face masks,
purchased through a company specialising in
currency trading and offshore property, part of a
£252m (€291m; $348m) contract, were also unusable.
A Miami jewellery designer, awarded a £250m
contract for PPE, was found to have paid £21m to a
consultant to broker the deal. A pest control company
with net assets of £19 000 was given a £108m contract
for PPE. A highly critical report by the National Audit Office provides more examples"

And here's a link to the complete article

Handcock did not follow the rules for contracts.
