Asylum seekers

Just read the following.

To claim asylum in the UK, a person must be IN the UK

It is not possible to apply from outside the country, and there is no asylum visa to enable people to travel to the UK legally to apply for asylum.”

Can this be right?

I can’t say it more often enough.

This would not be happening if we had a competent government and a home office that was properly run, instead of being run by some crazed ideologue.

The Home Office under Tory control has a history of crazed idealogues, although Braverman is surely the worst. So far. It began with the buses driving through London telling people to go home (Theresa May). and continued downwards. A quick read of FB, or even, dare I say it, of GN, shows that this disgusting demonisation of people seeking help and sanctuary, is a popular policy for the Tories and their supporters. Throw in a few drug dealing Albanians for red meat and everyone is distracted. Are people so stupid economically illiterate that they think we would have enough social housing for all, no waiting lists at hospitals, no potholes, hip replacements for all, if only we could stop less than 40k people from asking to live here. ?

The majority are not coming into Dover. The majority are landing on Shakespeare Beach and Samphire Hoe.

I am not grouping all asylum seekers together.

I have immense sympathy for all who are genuinely fleeing torture and tyranny.

Those coming to this Country to carry out illegal activities under the cloak of refuge are the lowest of the low.

They need to filter and check the immigrants as quickly as possible and those not meeting the criteria repatriated PDQ

So, we are agreed then?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 04-Nov-22 14:07:08

MSRA as well.

It is concentration camp conditions.

Imagine the headlines if it was Russia and Ukrainian POWs

Glorianny Fri 04-Nov-22 14:01:29

Well most of them won't get much drug dealing done if Suella Braverman has her way. They are stuck for weeks in accommodation intended to keep only a few for 24 hours. Diptheria and Scabies are spreading.

Exactly as drug barons do in the UK, recruiting vulnerable youngsters who are from deprived backgrounds and have no support mechanisms to do the dirty work for them. The recruits aren’t the criminals, they are the victims.

Unfortunately drug dealing is rife. We can’t get our act together to prevent children doing it. This is from Sky News today.

The people smuggling Albanian gangs and their alleged nefarious activities are a means of distracting the British electorate from the truth of the at best hopeless, at worst, cruel behaviour of the Home Office. I am not happy, who would, to have 'boatloads of criminals' of any nationality arriving here, but surely this is even more reason to speed up the processing of applicants? To put it bluntly, a family of Afghans is pretty easy to differentiate from a group of Albanian men. This grouping together and demonising of asylum seekers must stop.

Caleo Fri 04-Nov-22 13:12:18

Why are Albanians like that?

Maybe read more than just the headlines Kandinsky?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 04-Nov-22 13:06:44

I am watching the lunchtime news and it’s leading with Albanian Criminal Recruiters working out of French camps They are middle men for the Iraqi-Turkish drug gangs which have been operating in these camps for years.

70% of the young men in Tirana and surrounding areas have left heading towards the U.K.

Something is dreadfully wrong with this, before you shout me down I have just précis the news report.

MaizieD Fri 04-Nov-22 12:51:07

Let's sort the sheep from the goats before we start making judgements, shall we,*Kandinsky?*.

vegansrock Fri 04-Nov-22 12:48:29

So ALL asylum seekers are Albanian criminals? Really?

Kandinsky Fri 04-Nov-22 12:46:39

The headline news on the BBC website states that criminal Albanian gangs are recruiting Albanians in the camps in France to work in the UK drugs industry, by offering to pay their expenses

What a surprise.
But let’s still feel sorry for them & welcome them with open arms, we need extra workers after all.

I was heartened to listen to Sir Michael Rose (ex M&S, now Asda) on QT last night saying exactly what some more sensible and compassionate members on this thread have said, namely, let people work while their claim is being processed, if people have employment, family life they are highly unlikely to abscond and disappear. Also, I have always maintained that if conditions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan were so unacceptable to the West that we initiated regime change or interfered/bombed the country, if it was so in need of help that members of our own armed forces lost their lives there, then surely, by definition, anyone coming from there is entitled to refuge?

Rose was indeed impressive, intelligent and compassionate, last night, and full of common sense. The kind of child of immigrants on both sides who have contributed so so much to this country.

The truth is finally out.

If this isn’t the impetus to do something about these migrants, I don’t know what is.

All the migrants?

Would you not concede that there are indeed some fleeing persecution etc?

Re Albania:

The Amnesty International report does not seem to share the UK’s belief that this is a non-harming country

Shocking report in today’s papers

On Times Radio on Friday, Chris Philp, a former immigration minister who was handed the policing brief in the most recent cabinet reshuffle, said: “If people choose to enter a country illegally, and unnecessarily, it is a bit, you know, it’s a bit of a cheek to then start complaining about the conditions when you’ve illegally entered a country

GrannyGravy13 Fri 04-Nov-22 10:10:53

I picked out the chart from Avelines link.

We know an Albanian family with a very successful business locally, they are extremely worried.

Aveline Fri 04-Nov-22 09:27:11

I was concerned when I read this.

I entirely agree, process them quickly, give them work permits, don’t waste millions holding them in concentration camps.

That apparently is what a Germany does.
