NHS 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ... This is getting ridiculous now. Isn’t it?

Experts have slammed a NHS hospital in Scotland for asking 12-year-old boys if they are pregnant and referring to women and girls as 'people with internal reproductive organs.'

^Can I refer you to one of the threads here earlier this week where someone alerted the medical staff to the fact they were pregnant but the medical staff didn't pay enough attention because of the person's appearance, and their baby died?^

A main reason, which you fail to mention, is that the patient's medical record had been changed from female to male, which obviously misled the staff.

Pretending that everyone is the sex they want to claim, rather than their real one, is completely ridiculous and I can see that this health board is trying to cope with an impossible situation.

That wasn't the main reason as has already been posted the main reason as the doctor in the report stated was "gender assumptions" by staff.
The patient was given a pregnancy test so staff knew that he was trans and there was a possibility of pregnancy. They still failed to treat him properly.

In a case as you've described Shelflife, someone who identifies as, looks like and dresses like a man with has a boy's name will know that they have internal reproductive organs because they are female.

Why use the word people?

If you are referring to my use of the word ' people ' I mean the general population who are thinking about transgender issues.
I agree that a female who identifies as male will have internal reproductive organs. Being transgender is much deeper than the biological body. It is about identity and deep seated convictions. Of course I fully recognize that someone feeling this way needs very careful psychological
assessment/ counselling. I am also very concerned that the wheels are not set in motion too early . Lots skilled assessment needs to be done before someone can go down the path to transition. We are hearing of more and more cases of women and men wanting to transition , it's nothing new . The difference is we now know about it and begin to understand and accept- a bit like homosexuality was 30 years ago ! Although in both cases there is still a long way to go . We may not understand these issues but I sincerely hope we can begin to accept, if we don't then I fear that hate crimes will rise - they are already on the increase and that is something I an sure most people deplore.

Does Meryl Streep know it's her turn in the barrel. One out, one in.

Or bleeders Sounds awful

Lathyrus Sat 05-Nov-22 08:55:47

I can’t see any problem with “Is there any chance you might be pregnant”.

I do think “bleeding bodies” is stupid though. I mean we all have bleeding bodies.

In both uses of the word.

The hospital poster has two trans symbols on it.
How could it be unrelated to trans volver?

volver Sat 05-Nov-22 08:51:23

FarNorth Sat 05-Nov-22 08:50:34

Because Smileless there must be no mention of females, women or girls in case it upsets any trans people.

I went for a chest X-ray last week and was not asked if I was pregnant, she just checked my name and date of birth.

And are you older than 55?

And so not part of the target audience, as explained in the poster?

Why not say 'only females who have internal reproductive organs have the ability to become pregnant?. Still stating the obvious but preferable to 'only people'.

Lucca Sat 05-Nov-22 08:36:20

Maudi

Why not a big sign saying if you are pregnant please tell the doctor or nurse. Simples 😊

Also you might not know ? The question is usually phrased as “is there any possibility you could be pregnant “.
I think the poster explains the situation clearly enough, is not offensive and not worth getting all “disgusted of Tunbridge Wells” about.

volver Sat 05-Nov-22 08:33:23

That's in response to Maudi.

volver Sat 05-Nov-22 08:32:35

Easier to have one of those here because of the kilts.

Must be that clever dicks school in Scotland 😂

volver Sat 05-Nov-22 08:11:00

Because the question I 've usually been asked is "any chance that you are pregnant?" If you are a bit reticent about telling people you might be pregnant, it is more difficult to lie to someone's face about it, than just avoid telling someone without being asked. So there is more chance of getting the right answer.

The poster is for information, it's not the actual question.

They taught all that on the first day of clever dick school.

MerylStreep Sat 05-Nov-22 08:03:26

Maudi
Now why didn’t the clever dicks think of that 😄

Joseanne Sat 05-Nov-22 07:56:05

It’s easier to ask the questions and move on isn’t it?
Sure, so just ask everyone with two arms and two legs, thus catering for all and not pandering to one group as in the words of the poster.
I don't get the problem. The poster clearly states ^It is our legal responsibility", so the radiographer just has to say to everyone, "it is my job to ask you......". Full stop.

growstuff Sat 05-Nov-22 05:58:19

It's a manufactured fuss, to divert from the issues which are really worth making a fuss about.
